Default Can contacts get stuck to your eye?

I was just trying to take my contacts out the other night like I normally do and they had suctioned to my eye and would not come off! I was freaked out so I went online for a few minutes to see if I could find something then went back to try and take them out again and they came out

Anyone else here that wears contacts, is that normal? for certain brands or what?

They do that if they get too dry. Just put in a couple of drops next time and they'll come right out.

K, speaking of contacts..... I have seen some really cool ones, with designs or what not, and all the different colors of course...but can you wear them if you don't need them? It sounds like a silly question, but I'm wondering is it bad for your eyes to do it?

I tried that at first but it didn't work so I just sat around for a few minutes, tried again and they came out. That's scary though! The contacts were suctioned to my eyeball! Ever had that happen?

Yep, sure have. Did you sleep in them? Sleeping in them will do it, but anyway they get sticky because they're dry. You did exactly what you should've done, which is put in the drops and then give it a minute for the drops to soak in.

Yes you can wear them if you don't need them... but contacts are always bad for eyes in general.

Oh my god, be careful! If they won't come out, do NOT keep trying when they won't come off. Good that you did the drops and waited. I had a contact that was really bothering my eye (I had slept in them) and I kept trying to get it out, well I finally did and had immediate severe pain and blurred vision. Turns out the contact had adhered to the epithereal layer of my cornea ( a very thin layer of skin that covers it), and when I took it out, the epithereal layer came with it! I wound up with considerable time off work due to the fact my eye swelled shut, and it took a month and a half to heal. These contacts had been approved for overnight wear, also. Never wear them to bed, and always keep them moist, use drops if you have to. You don't want this to happen to you!!

This happens to me once in a while. I usually try blinking a few times and that helps. It also happened to me during a field sobriety test where the cop waves his finger in front of the eyes to see if they follow. Of course, with my contacts being dry, I failed it. I ended up being let ago anyway...(I really wasn't drunk, just tired from work).

Your eyes were too dry, did you close them for a long time without taking them out? I notice that whenever I nap in them or sleep in them - had to cut that out woke up and my eyeballs were RED.

Yes, they don't pose a threat if you use them right. Don't wear them to bed, keep them clean, etc.

This also happens to me when I've drunk a lot.. Alcohol dehydrates you, so it make sense your eyes would dry out too. It's pretty hard to try to take out your contacts when they're so dry and stuck and you're drunk too.. lol.. Whenever I drink at home with my bf or whatever, i always take out my contacts before I get too drunk.

In regards to contact lens safety - there is some debate about their safety, even when worn and cared for properly. Mostly over the fact that they don't allow the eye to "breathe".

I wear contacts, but only a few times a week, and when I wear them to work I have to take them out right after I get home cause they get so uncomfortable around all that cigarette smoke.

I hope I don't get one stuck! I'll have to be careful.

If I fall asleep with them in or my eyes or dry for any other reason they are much harder to get out. You can also buy lubricating drops to put in your eyes if they tend to get dry with contacts.

Hmmm. I wear mine all the time. I mean, whenever I get up to go anywhere. I always take them out before bed though.

Not only can they get stuck...they can grow into your eye
Here's a story of a man who kept his contacts in for a year:

They make you more prone to conjunctivitis. I once had a severe case as a result of contact lens wear and was at risk of losing my sight. I now wear glasses most of the time, reserving contacts only for the times that I need to look good.

(I'm not saying that no-one looks good in specs, by the way, but I'm not one of the chosen in this regard.)

Hahahaha I'm realllllllly bad with eye things. Anything that has to do with an eyeball makes me cringe, it's the one reason that I crossed off eye science as my major without even thinking about it because oh my god, you can not imagine how uncomfortable eye issues make me.

So when I went to my contact lens trial and the optometrist touched my eyeball...I passed out. Ahahahaha.

And THEN when I had to attempt to get my contacts out the first few times, I found it so difficult my mum had to be in the room because I kept getting light headed.

I'm cool with contacts now though, but hahaha it makes me laugh remembering it.

Mine have gotten stuck to my eyes heaps of times, for whatever reason mine seem to get dry a hell of a lot more than they used to...umm...I don't know how I get around it, it'll seem like I can be trying to get them out for half an hour with no luck, then all of a sudden they just come out..

Here's a last resort solution for when hard lenses suction to your eye and can't be gotten off with liquid and eye movement. Two things first though - one, not for the squeamish or those with shaky hands, two, hard lenses pretty much suction only when they're off place, i.e. not on the iris. With a hard lens you really do have to break the suction, and the easiest way to do that is to slip a fingernail very carefully a tiny bit between the lens and your eye to break the suction. Sounds horrible, I know, but I've been doing it for years.

They were Acuvue Oasys with "Hydraclear plus"
They are supposed to be really good, extra moisture and oxygen, all that good stuff. I still use them and that is the only time I ever had trouble with these, but, oh, what trouble! Maybe it was a bad pack or something. The Dr. said they were approved for overnight wear (not consistantly, but one night was not supposed to be a problem). I will never wear ANY contacts over night again! I am looking into Lasik now, that experience scared me, I could have gone blind in that eye from that!

Oh great I think that's the problem, I switched from o2 optix to acuvue because the o2's got recalled.

I had my contact stick to my eyeball two weeks ago. I haven't worn them since, because I had to actually pinch at my eyeball to finally pull it out. It left a red circle in my eyeball in the shape of the contact!
No idea what heppened, but it had stuck to my eyeball, and no amount of eye drops helped,

That sometimes happens to me if I leave them in for too long or fall asleep in them. Probably, as Yek said, because the eyes have dried out too much.
