Thumbs up Exotic World: Stripper Hall of Fame

This is a really cool article. My favorite bit:

Dixie loves recounting details of hundreds of other girls' acts she witnessed during her career. She'll point to a photo of a stripper on the wall, and tell a story of a time now lost . . . such as that of Siska and Her Macaws. Siska had two trained birds who would fly on-stage, and take off a piece of her clothing, fly offstage, drop it and come back. Right when they got down to her G-string, she'd start dancing too fast for the birds to catch up to her, and one macaw would turn to the audience and yell 'Hellllpppp. Helllllpppp Me.'"

Me too. I would love to see shows like this now.

There's a newer documentary on burlesque stars on HBO right now (forget what it's called...they air it every few weeks)....Very entertaining. Best part is when an elderly woman who was a party-hearty stripper in her day calls the documentarian's dress & shoes ugly. Only the aged can get away with such candor. LOL

I have a special place in my heart for Dixie Evans because my first stage name was Dixie too. I didn't know there was a famous Dixie until after I'd taken the name for myself. I liked that name. Unfortunately it doesn't go over very well in SoCal; nobody knows what it means and the Mexicans thought I was saying my name was Dicks.

I'm trying to get into burlesque with a special project of my own, and debating whether to go by Lily Summers (as Lily is my present stage name) or Dixie Rebelle. I'm kinda leaning towards the latter, especially as Dixie Evans is still so damn cool.

EDIT: Oh, for fuck's sake. I just Googled Dixie Rebelle and there's some fucking country singer in TAMWORTH, NSW, calling herself that. She's fucking Australian, she has no idea what that name even means. And in a shitty little bumblefuck town like Tamworth (yes, I've been there). *grumble*

TAMWORTH!!!!!! Go ahead, use Dixie Rebelle. The other aussie one is a hick and I doubt even knows what the internet actually is let alone uses it!

Why not Lily Rebelle ? What's wrong with that combination?

I'm doing Burly-Q lessons at the moment and will work on a solo act with the help (tutor-age) of Lola The Vamp ........ yet I have no idea what I should call myself in Burlesque circles.

I'm Vanessa Stacy (full name) or just Vanessa in the stripping industry. I want to use Vanessa yet what with ???? Should I still use my full stripper name???

Since Lola is "Lola The Vamp" ... I was figuring I could use the old "Vanessa The Undresser" or even "Vanessa Undresser" or something ??

Anyway, I've known about Exotic World for awhile now.

    Tempest Storm rocks.

I think Vanessa Stacy is a great burlesque name! But if you didn't want to use that, Vanessa the Undresser is awesome in an Australian accent. I love that one.

Lily Rebelle... not bad. I like it. The thing with Dixie Rebelle is that it's Southern and I'm big into Southern pride... "Dixie" is a nickname for the former Confederacy, it was our anthem, and it remains a term of endearment for the South. We were also called "Rebels" during the Civil War, so Dixie Rebelle is ultra-Southern, and also has the "Southern belle" implication to it. That's why I got so annoyed with some old chick in Australia using that name - only someone FROM Dixie can really appreciate a name like that!

Besides, there's the line from the song, "Oh I wish I was in Dixie..." Don't they all.

What about Dixie Belle, or something like that? Something different than the Reb angle.

Burlesque is what introduced me to stripping/striptease.

Tempest Storm, Dixie, Lily St Cyr, Blaze Starr, Candy Barr, Bettie Page, Gypsy etc...all had me mesmerized even before I became a teenager!

I am so glad Exotic World exists and that others have heard of it....

Dixie R Belle ??? A play on words as when you say R Belle it sounds like "rebel".

I never thought I could use Vanessa Stacy as a Burlesque name. I may just keep it then. I could always (as you said) use the whole Vanessa The Undresser if no one else has taken it (please hopefully).

Anyway, I'm also glad Exotic World exists as I would love to attend (watch) the Miss Exotic World pageant one year.
