    Default HELP! I'm completely unphotogenic!

    Hey there,

I haven't posted in a long time, but desperately need your help! Here is the problem, I have always been unphotogenic and now I NEED to have amazing photos for work promo. I have tried quite a few photographers and have finally decided to pay for a whole studio experience with a make-up artist. Everyone I know thinks that I look way better in person than is photos, but these have to look good or I won't be able to get much work. Do you have any posing, make-up, etc. tips so I can finally get some good pics?! Also, any ways to look thinner in pictures, good things to wear! Thanks so much for any help.

Some people are just not photogenic, which isn't bad because you always look better in person. My mom is the same way, she doesn't look great in pictures but you see her in person and she's 10 times more beautiful.

When you are posing, think long. Stand up straight and elongate your neck . This will make you look thinner and taller . You should practice in your mirror or have a friend spend an hour snapping polaroids or digital pics of you before you do the real thing so you don't end up looking stiff and uncomfortable. You will also learn how it feels when a pose or position looks good. Just a hint from my days in front of the camera, if it feels weird and unnatural, you look great!!! Also , depending on the look you are going for, if you stand facing sideways, and twist your torso towards the camera, your waist appears smaller . Careful though, it can look very Sears catalog if you don't do it right.

Who are you going to use?

For the 'slimmer' effect you will have no problem... thats what editing is for

But you can take water pills and starting a few days before the shoot and a lax the day before.

Also avoid any soda or caffiene... I dont eat the day of my shoot untill AFTER my shoot because you know... your always thinner when you wake up

Drink water and only water the day of and a few days before.

A good photog will help you find poses that flatter your body.

Are you getting promo to work the east or west? What Roger likes is different then what IA or Superb or any BC agency likes. Roger is MUCH fussier with his promo.

ask the photographer if you can play music, it helps, put on music you like for work and just dance slow and forget about the camera

Put a little Magick in your night.

Practise posing in the mirror. Take a look at what models are doing in magazines to get the idea of what positions to pose in.

If you can get a friend to spare a few hours just get them to take photo after photo after photo. Review them and see what looks good, then try to repeat the poses that you like, take lots and lots of phots and then review them again etc. I learnt this way. I used to be so uncomfortable in front of the camera it wasnt funny. Then one day I met a photographer who wanted to work with me. As I was uncomfortable he insisted thathe just took hundreds and hundreds of photos of me until I didnt care any more and learnt how to relax and look good on film (-: You can possibly do it by yourself too but it will take longer obviously. Good luck!

    Don't hold your breath!

Pictures come out stiff when models hold their breath. It shows fear and discomfort.

    Hey,

Thanks for the help! Twister, I want to look like a sexy playmate. Not too slutty, but really hot. I'm thinking about smoky eyes or something. Most of the pictures that I already have are either too bedroom like or too casual. Posing isn't too hard for me, as I used to pose for art classes. The main problem is my face. It always looks completely deformed and I almost always have a double chin in every photo which isn't so evident in everyday life. Would makeup help with this any?

Cally, I am in the West. The photos aren't for strip club promo, they are for a stag company I work for, although if I got into the circuit it would be nice to use them initially. I would love for them to look like something Brian Ward would do.

Try to relax and forget about the camera. If you can, work with a photographer that you get along with socially, preferably one who can help you relax and make you laugh!

My BF is a photographer and it took me a while to get used to him sticking the camera in my face all the time, but now I'm so used to it I don't tense up anymore.

Try to be shot either at eye level or higher, low angles can give you a double chin! In my opinion the most flattering photo is when you lie on your back and tilt your chin so you are looking upside-down into the camera. It feels a bit awkward but looks good on everyone.

Smokey eyes... dont go for them omg... i've made that mistake and they dont look right for promo.

As for the double chin, tilt your chin up... kind of glance into the camera...

If your photog is on digital ask him to take a couple of test shots so you can practise different angles with your face to figure out what works for you.

Some stuff thats worked for me...

Cally, those are amazing. The last one looks very Marilyn Monroe! Thanks for all your help. And where do you get water pills? Are they the ones in the PMS section, the caffeine ones? Do they have a specific name? I'm so naive....

Waterpills are at Walmart... just ask in the pharmacy for em... they're in a different spot in every store lol.

As for teeth, use crest white strips... also remember though something like that CAN be edited
