    Default sinusitis

    anyone else suffer from it?

i had anti-biotics 4 or 5 times last year to try to fix it.
i'm so sick of feeling like i have a headcold the good majority of the time.

i have tried everything that my doctor has suggested:

    - anti-biotics only work while im taking them, as soon as i stop my sinuses slowly get blocked up again until its unbearable
    - saline nasal flushes
    - steroid nasal sprays
    - aromatherapy drops that go in nose

has anyone found anything that works?

has anyone either had their sinuses drained or had the operation that you can have, if so did it work and was it worth it?

my doctor said that would be the next step for me, i would have to have a CT scan to see if my sinuses are really congested and if the operation would work.

I suffered from chronic sinus infections, irritation and dryness a few years ago, turned out to be allergies...have you been tested for food/environmental/animal allergies?

    Just a thought

the only allergy i know i have is hayfever which adds to the sinus problems.
im not sure if i have any other allergies.

have either of you ever had them drained? apparently it's quite painful and only offers temporary relief but im still tempted to do it.

I've had this for years, and it's getting worse. Mine is due to a deviated septum, so I need surgery. Nothing works really. Odorless garlic pills help a bit.

the thing is i am saving my money to get a nose job and my boyfriend suggested that while i was under anaesthetic maybe i could get my sinuses fixed as well. i suppose it would be worth enquiring about.
but ladyjane that sounds scary and if it doesnt last long then whats the point.

You might have your ENT check you for a fungal infection. Turns out that a lot of recurrent sinusitis ends up being fungal...which antibiotics don't work on.

Try a neti pot. It's so simple and can be very effective for sinusitis. You can get one at a health food store or online. Use it in the morning and before you go to bed. It's awkward at first but you get used to it. I always got congested from the smoke at the club and it helped to use it before and after work. Definitely try it for a while before opting for surgery.

I have chronic sinusitis that used to be unbearble until i tried a chiropracter. I went because of migraines (i had a horrible mix of migraines+sinus headaches) and i found that the times between really bad sinusitis attacks decreased, and they weren't as bad.
Ther chiropractor used to do a little massage between the sinus' on my head and face as well.
i still suffer from it from time to time but i have learned to live with it.
    just another suggestion.

one thing that I would do when it was really bad, just for some temporary relief, was put a warm/hot cloth on the bridge of my node, and also put a little saline solution up there, hang the head back, and drop a few drops and sniff it in...then wait a few minutes and give a big blow....helped for a bit.

I've had the fungal infection. After all kinds of antibiotics that weren't working my ENT checked for that and low and behold. He had to fax the perscription to some place down in FL (apparently one of the few places that makes the compound) and they shipped it up to me. It was expensive and I can't remember if my insurance covered it or not. But it did work.

I still get sinus infections, my ENT will take a culture and then start me on the right antibiotic along with what he calls Wilson Solution, it's gentamicin.

I've also had three sinus surgeries in the last 10 years.
