this is also a great way to not have to rely sole-y upon your dancing income! I'm hoping to maybe do this with the burlesque by the time I am finished with the classes near the mid-end of March.
I've been invited to do hula hooping teaching however I am so a beginner and newbie at it that I don't feel comfortable taking on training (via www.hoopgirl.com) as yet even if I may be good by that time I will leave the training for next year. burlesque for this year.

Congrats Jaizaine!!
Who did you train through? And where are you going to be teaching? I know of a few in Austrailia!! Jamilla Deville is a associate of mine in the IPF ...International Pole Federation. You may want to check it out!

thats funny because i'm actually taking a pole dancing class in one of my classes in college (it's history of the burlesque). Since i'm a newbie dancer it might actually be helpful for work! Sounds like it wil be fun...

I have trained through POLE DIVAS in Melbourne.
They are going to be opening another studio in melbourne soon and have asked me if i would be interested in teaching!
I can't wait.
Jamilla is an amazing, amazing pole dancer - a true artist.
I am determined to go to sydney eventually just to get some one-on-one lessons with her - a few girls from pole divas have done this.
GCG they are going to be having hula classes at pole divas, I was thinking of giving that a try, I can't even keep it going for one spin!

I am sooooooooooooo in the wrong city!
If Melbourne could have weather and the locale of the Gold Coast I would move there in a heartbeat.
It's hard to find hooping classes on the Gold Coast. I'm just going to have to be satisfied with my HoopGirl DVD.
The key is to have one foot in front of the other and rock back and forth on your feet. Do not circle your hips. It is more of a pumping action.![]()

Congrats Jazaine!
Such a small world! I took a few classes at pole divas on the recommendation of friends but the studio was a bit too far from my home. For now, I have a 2nd hand pole bought off EBAY and I'm getting some unprofessional help from friends.
When will you start teaching? Mornington studio, I assume? And what class(es) will you do? I'm so excited for you... I think you'll love teaching it's such a blast
As for hooping, GCG has the basic action spot on. Another tip you're struggling to get one spin; maybe you should get a heavier hoop 'cos it's much easier that way.

Not to mention in re: Hooping you need to use a hoop that is designed to be used by adults and NOT children! Do not even attempt hooping using a children's hoop (which is basically what you can buy anywhere .. KMart etc).
If you can't make your own hoop (www.hooping.org) then do what I did and purchase one (I actually purchased two, one to use/practice with and one for show).

No not mornington that is too far away for me.
Pole Divas are opening a new studio in Cheltenham in the next couple of months.
Did you do the polesations classes salsa?
GCG are all the adult hoops really big tho? The adult ones that I saw at the studio are enormous but the kids size looked more like my size coz I'm really short.

Salsa - i'm not sure what classes that I will be teaching yet. To begin with probably the polesations - casual class and then hopefully I'll get my own class to teach, I think most new teachers start off with a beginners class and work up from there.

I'm 5 foot in height and a petite girl. The general rule of thumb is that the hoop should reach your belly button when you put stand it up against you. Believe me you do need the size as an adult.

I'm 5'0 too!
Ok that's an easy way to measure it then. cheers![]()

Way cool congrats! Pole Divas is a great studio, I love their tall poles. I did a couple of classes there while I was working in Melbourne - heaps fun!
Jamilla is an amazing dancer - I want to be her when I grow up! I'm so lucky she teaches near where I work so I can do regular classes with her. You should definitely come to Sydney and do a class. She also does regular weekend workshops as well which are great fun!

I am so wishing I could attend those classes. There isn't anything of comparison on the Gold Coast. The closest I could get is a circus training place where a 14 yr old would train me in hooping. *sigh*
