Default 10% Glycolic Acid for the body--Will it do any good?

I did a search on the topic, but I have a more specific inquiry.

I just bought 10% glycolic acid lotion for the body (I have dry patches on certain areas, plus stretch marks) and I'm just wondering if it'll do any good. I noticed that they also have glycolic acid in concentrations such as 20%, so I'm guessing that would be more effective?

Do you guys use glycolic acid on a regular basis?

    Thanks girls <3

I just gave myself a 30% glycolic acid peel on the face last night, coincidentally enough.

10% is very mild. I don't know if it'll do anything for stretch marks, but it will work nicely as an exfoliant. If you have dry patches, I would not recommend using it daily because it can dry your skin out more, but when you do use it and moisturize immediately afterward, you should notice those dry patches go away very nicely.

I think it's 12% I use on my face and with regular use skin is smoother and much more even in tone (it helped with an acne scar I had on my cheek as well). My esthetician recommends 20% for body, but I would thind 10% used regularly would show results. It will also eliminate those rough dry patches. Stay out of the sun while using it though, MAJOR sun damage if your exposed.

The lotion is called "Reversa" It's supposedly the Canadian rival brand to Alpha Hydrox (American). It was $32.00

I'm definitely not using glycolic on the face---Even 4% will kill me! My face is pretty even, so I'm not worried, but my body is so blotchy sometimes.. Tan lines, dry skin.. Eh. My skin doesn't shed as quickly as most people either..I always need to give it an extra push.

I'm going to try to find 20% for the body, but I don't think I've ever seen it.

So for the body does it make it smoother?

I used to use a lotion and a body wash from Peter Thomas Roth with a high percentage of glycolic acid when my skin was really dry and I wanted to self tan. It worked pretty well, I guess. Check it out, I got it at Sephora.

I wonder if it's possible to "make" your own glycolic lotion? Could I just add some diluted 40% glycolic acid to regular body lotion?

Where is 30% glycolic acid obtained from. The dermatologist charges $150 and I would like to cut some costs.

I do my own 50% glycolic peels on my face 1 to 2 weeks apart and 70% on rough parts of my body like elbows knees and feet. I get it off ebay..just make sure its a good place you get it from. I find 20% and 30% don't do much for me.

I bought a pumice stone and when I lather my body with soap, I lightly rub the pumice over my skin. Then, I went on ebay and bought PURE shea butter. It's phenomenal and after the 2nd application no more dry spots. It super hydrates my skin and it's beautiful now. That's the only thing I can help you with as far as the skin pathes are concerned.

Bellona and Cinnamonkisses- do u mind posting the link to the seller of these higher % of glycolic acid? Also, where did you get the shea butter from? I hav tried several, the last being the raw shea butter from africa that a lady was selling. It has too strong of an odor for me, so I'm not using it (my guy hates it)

Thats it! I have to do one of these I've been thinking about it for a while but wasn't sure if it was something I should attempt alone

My acne is finally died down *knock on wood* and its time to get rid of the scars. Is 20-30% strong enough for my face? I have super fair skin thats on the sensitive side so I'm nervous about doing any heavy duty work on it.

So basically these will peel the crap out of my skin is my understanding? Yes? Am I going to want to avoid doing this right before work so that I don't have face dandruff?

If there was an "odor" then you didn't get real shea butter. It should have a very light nutty scent to it, but after you put it on, it's almost non-existant. The girl I bought shea butter from sold me the real thing. I did my research before purchasing from anyone. I bought my shea butter from this lady.

This girl sells her glycolic acid in 2oz increments. She also posts her esthetician license. This is a doc who also posts his license, but he sells 3 small bottles of TCA and glycolic and includes some serums.I'm waiting on the Doc to email me back because I don't want to run the risk of hyperpigmenting my skin.

I dont think you understand who the process will work. There is NO WAY you'll be able to work while you have this peel..Your skin will do more than "dandruff" it will be peeling off, and trust me it's not a pretty site. I got the following images from the ebay seller I just posted above about. As you can see, overtime your skin starts to peel and shed, thus uncovering the healthier layer of skin.

    ^^^ Thank you Cinnamon!

I totally know nothing about these peels other than hopefully they'd help with scaring. I've seen before and afters but never "durings". I guess I though it would be similar to the peeling that my acne creams used to do.....not so drastic.

**backs away slowly from the glycolic acid**

I love the results but I'd be too nervous do that to myself.

Yeah I wouldn't agree with doing you gown high percentage peels at home UNLESS you have done major research.. You can get chemical burns if you leave it on too long..

Stick with the low percentage stuff or going to a spa. When you put on the peels you also have to get a neutralizer.

WoW!! I have never done a peel that looked like that! Even when I got them at my Dermatologist. I think peels that are that deep should only be done by professionals.. that way you can sue if they mess up. I have only done 50% on my face, i leave it on 5 minutes then neutralize it with baking soda mixed with water. My face looks like I have a minor sunburn but not to bad, its tight for a couple of days with light skin shedding then its fine. This link sells multi-packs of different strenghs, just try a 30% the first time for 3 minutes to see how you like it.
