Default Ok features I need some advice..

Okay so im so fuckin sick right now but im booked and cant not work...

What im doing is just making it through my stage shows(damn pole work is hard when your dizzy) and laying down in my changing room between shows.

What im having a hard time with though is I trying to politely sign my posters after my show quickly and get back to my room asap.

Im coming off really rude though I think... like guys trying to get me to sit and talk and I just cant do it because im so weak and tired and irritable.

How do you girls deal with guys quickly deal with after show schmoozing without coming off rude when your sick?

I dont want to say 'im sick and cant handle this'. I've just been saying "i gotta go do something but i'll be right back'. But then I dont go back and they get upset. I dont want to be that rude feature who doesnt socialise but im afraid thats how im coming off.

    Any ideas?

I find the truth to be your best bet. Just tell them you're feeling under the weather, and 99% of guys are sweet as pie about it. I find when this happens and I tell the truth, the guys are incredibly sympathetic. Hey it's worth a try! Otherwise they might think you're coming off as a Diva. (which we all know you're not!) I hope you feel better soon!!!

Heh I tried that tonight and some guy started flipping out on me.. he figured since he tipped me $10 I should sit and talk with him. I told him im really not feeling well and need to go lay down and he lost it... said he was going to tell everyone how much of a bitch I am I guess though truth is the best.

I really hate after show schmoozing... I know its good PR and all that but fuck it sucks.

(Not a feature, just knows some) I agree with Krissy. Honesty wont ruin things. A lot of the times, the guys will think you like them if you tell them the truth. They'll see you as honest and real.

If any guy ever complains about spending a $10 on you, even if you give him NOTHING in return, he's def. not worth your time anyway. What a piece of sh!t...

I hope your shows go well and you feel better soon.

Melonie...I must be too! Did not matter how sick I was...the show went on!

Either you fulfill the contract or lose the contract...that is the way I grew up in the business.

But then again I have been stupid enough to work with dislocated ribs, torn deltoid, shifted pallete, broken vertabre, pulled acl, pnemonia, bronchitis, nasal infections (from flying too much), twisted spine...the list goes on!

Not that I need a medal or anything...just makes me wonder now why I did it??

Don't forget the broken toes, sciatica, food poisoning etc.

Not meaning to piss anybody off, but I think that part of the reason that we did it was that in the 'good ol days' clubowners used to invest a fair amount of money not only in the feature fee itself but also in publicizing feature appearances in local media, thus they stood to 'lose' their investment if the feature wasn't performing as expected both on and off the stage.

Cally, find a 'ringer' in the audience to be your safe haven. It can be an off duty staffer or just a customer who won't pressure you too hard, but spend as much time as you can signing autographs and posing for photos, then politely excuse yourself to spend time with this lovely VIP that has requested your presence. Unless, of course, someone else would like to pay you $1000 instead? Don't say that he actually paid that, just imply it.

No one would blame you for wanting to spend your free time with a high roller, and you get an easy out from having to be fun and sexy and friendly when all you want to do is collaspe.

Wow, is this in Toronto? And guys are expecting you to sit and talk to them for $10? I have no titles and guys don't even expect me to sit and talk to them for $10. Like, yes, the show must go on, but you are really obliged to socialize with the customers - that's part of the show? I understand even if the club wants you on the floor available to do dances, but... you have to be polite?

(I didn't mean that the way it sounded).

Yes, you're a feature, but shouldn't that mean that your time is MORE valuable, not less? I mean, after your show where does anyone get off making free claims on your time? Fuck that - be a diva. Be fucking Princess Cally. Be it in a nice way - I'm not suggested that you get a little sign that says "You're not worth my time" to wave in people's faces - but we all know that Toronto guys KNOW what $10 buys them.

Or you could try "Tha-anks (I like to make it two syllables); it was really nice meeting you. I'm really glad you like my show. I ree-ally have to go an change, because someone is waiting for me in the VIP; but this is my yahoo group/myspace page/whatever, so you'll know next time I'm in town."

Hence me continuing to work and still doing the after show schmoozing. Im not letting anything effect my shows but at the same time when im having black outs on stage im thinking its more important to be able to put a stage show on then it is to schmooz. But hey I could be wrong.

Also at the same time im being paid like well... we wont go there.... where I am now is a joke. Im still doing my shows and having fun but what im paid... heh its a joke. Im still trying to be polite and friendly but when im struggling to continue standing ....

Fuck it call me a baby.

Do they want me to last for the long term or burn out quickly in the short term? It never fails to amaze me the short-sightedness of people in this industry.
Most clubowners who are ponying up thousands of dollars worth of feature fees and publicity in local media have a long term outlook of exactly one week - the length of that feature's booking at his club !!! That clubowner could care less whether or not that particular feature girl is still working next month or next year when he calls the agency to book another feature appearance, because there will still be 100+ other girls to choose from.

Hes like 'umm no your not, take hte night off'.
this was an exceptional thing for a club manager to do ... particularly so on a Friday night with only one more day left to your feature booking.

cally, I'm glad you have the night off.

honestly gcg, look at your own shortsightedness. We are performers, most of all cally. And the show must go on. Just like a bway star used to not be able to miss a show (before 3 understuddies for the walk on roles!) features cannot either. Unless they have anunderstudy.... (cally, i volunteer!)

I know... I told him I refuse to miss a friday night, he told me if he sees me in there he will send me home and there is no point in me being there. I *NEVER* miss a show EVER. Thankfully im pretty good friends with this manager and he brings me in whenever im not on a booking anywhere else as the club is in my city. So we have a weird contract.

Cally I am sicker than hell too. I feel your pain, but I'm only on a 2 day booking, so I'm smiling and pushing through. They know I have the flu and are being really nice about it, but I'm staying on the floor as much as possible so I don't seem like a total wimp.

Agreed. That was really nice of him. I was sick ALL last week and I still went into work because people depended on me. I was asked to do shows and I am going to do shows... it's how it works.
