    Default Trader Joe's

I'm sick of buying and trying things that SUCK from Trader Joe's! I hate their egg rolls, turkey pot pie, frozen chicken masala, greek triangle pasta, shrimp stir fry in a bag...there's probably more that I've blocked out.

On the other hand, I love their hummus, turkey breast, carrot muffins, produce, sushi, tortellini, and those little indian food packets (yum!).
It's really either hit or miss and I'm afraid to try new stuff because I can't afford to waste money on things that might suck.

Does anyone have any recommendations as to what's good there?

You can give me whatever you don't like. I love all their food!

Except their soup. I really don't like their canned soup. The Indian food packets are the best though!

Ask the people who work there!!

The eat what's there and they'll tell you the truth about products. I've actually had them open up packages and let me try stuff at the checkout stand so if I don't like it I can return it and get it taken off my bill.

The Indian food packets are the BOMB!!! YUMMMMMY!!
Especially if you get the garlic naan to go with it.

Trek mixes are great, dried hibiscus flowers are delish, ummm, ratatouille (frozen) is great, black bean taquitos (frozen), chipotle ranch fries (frozen)... that's all I've got right now.

    Awesome! Thanks!

*goes back to indian food packet* - and oh yes, the garlic naan is kick-ass. I like it better than the regular non-garlic.

FYI, They'll take back anything you don't like. I used to love this sun dried tomato cream cheese dip they used to have but alas it is no more. Also they have the CHEAPEST olive oil and macademia nuts. I recall some graham crackers that I loved as well in the little clear containers (not a box). They are on the other side of town though so I usually go to Whole Foods now.

I'm not a fan of their boxed soups or the red pepper spread. And their mock meatball are nasssssty. Don't bother getting that miso noodle soup in the foam container either. Blech.

I shop there because they really do have the best price on staples (most aren't their own brand though.)

Their organic vegetable stock is great because it doesn't have MSG in it (and is overall low sodium). Their fake corndogs taste like the real thing! I love their simmer sauces too, especially the cuban mojito one.

Their dried apricots are killer! I'll eat a bag at a time.

Go to their dumpster instead.. they're NOTORIOUS for dumping fresh foods not even near their expiry date.

That's how my friends and I all got 500 (YES! 500!) cartons of Orange Juice. 3 for each of us... 475 for the local homeless shelter!

Fuck, they throw out a LOT.

Then you don't buy it if you don't like it.

    The frozen potstickers are yummmmmmmmmmmmm.

The canned corn chowder and beef stew are not.

I second that. Last time I went to a TJ's dumpster I got a biiig box of apples with little tiny brown spots, a case of juices, two things of raw cheese, a box of daikon greens, and a box of corn, artichokes, and asparagus. Oh, and some edamame.

I was up all night canning apples.

I remember when I dived for a living. It was always 'what did you get behind joes this week?'. When I say notorious, I mean it.

i didn't know they had trader joe's in australia.

i'm not a fan of the indian food boxes. the naan bread is awesome, though. other bad foods: chicken stir-fried rice, turkey pot pie, apples (always mushy), $6 wine (a friend and i put the wine in a picnic basket for a moonlight picnic. it was so bad we dumped it out over the hill we were on).

good picks from the frozen food aisle: cheese tamales, chicken chimichangas, chicken and bean burritos, quesadillas, calzone.

I've been wondering about the calzones. I tried the pesto pizza and that's pretty good too.
