Default coming off effexor, everything is spinning

The doctor reduced my dosage of Effexor XR 150mg to 112.5mg. I wanted to try to reduce my dosage because it was making me so tired and drowsy. Now, I have a shit load of energy and I feel like everything is going 100 mph. Anyone else experience this?

Yes I had that experience with effexor except I had it while I was still on it.I eventually had to stop taking it because I couldn't handle that side effect.I couldn't sit, couldn't sleep..I just kept going and going

oh that is so weird. When I tried to take Effexor it made me feel like I was having a heart attack. I made it through about two doses and couldn't stand it. So it must have had the opposite effect on me. Weird how drugs all affect us differently.

I did take Prozac for a couple years and when I weaned off of it I had really bad freak outs for a bit I guess until it got out of my system. I think your body just needs to readjust I guess.

I was on it a couple of years ago and I stopped because it made me feel like a zombie. I had no emotions, I was just numb to everything. It also killed my sex drive.

Getting the "spins" is a very common side effect of going off of SSRI's, though I am surprise that would happen going from 150 to 112.5mg. The effects lasts a few weeks then goes away. When going off SSRIs a long taper is needed to avoid side effects like spins and others. My father, who is 83, cut his dose in half without telling his docs. He had bad spins and ballance problems. They had him all lined up for MRIs, various scans and tests. Typical of docs, none thought to simply ask him if there had been any changes in his medications and he didnt think to tell them. I asked him, he told me what he had done, doc told him to go back to full dose, then start a long taper, and his problems were gone in a few days. Saved thousands on useless tests.

I had several terrible, terrible side effects which were caused by effexor - such as being so unalert that I walked into oncoming traffic on more than one occasion.

A shitload of people have had side effects from it, side effects which were never disclosed as disclaimers when effexor was prescribed to the patient. But it's the best selling product of it's parent company, and has yet to be yanked off the market.

Sorry to make sidenotes here, but whenever I hear of effexor I can't help but advise people out there against taking it.

My boyfriend takes effexor... I've seen a huge positive difference in his life since he upped his dosage! My brother has also responded very well to effexor. So after all my failed matches- prozac-one year, paxel 1.5 year and welbutrin a few months... I decided to try it myself. Im currently getting off, because its not my perfect match. I have to say- Every drug affects each person differently! Paxel gave me a migraine that lasted for over a year... but gave my best friend the freedom to leave her house. Just take the time to try it... and let it adjust in your system... then asses yourself and take into account if you feel like your benefits are outweighing the side effects. simple as that.

Crud...I have heard that the withdrawal can be hell. At least too much energy doesn't sound THAT bad (yet) but can be annoying I am sure... I like that feeling personally, I have been on it since September going gradually from 75mg to 225mg at present. Not too many bad side effects except for nausea and it also triggers mania in me (which sounds like all the extra energy you've been having too.) If you have bipolar tendencies make sure that that isn't what is happening to you, that can be dangerous. Other than that I haven't started weaning off it yet, I am probably going to be on it for as long as you were but I am a little freaked about tapering down eventually.
