    Default Dear Idiots...

No.. It's none of you. Don't worry about that.. Heh

But when you have a sick child.. DO NOT bring it around WELL CHILDREN!

Case in point.. We moved last week into the new place. We knew ahead of time that our niece (His Brother's 1-year-old Daughter) was sick, and he and his girlfriend were coming down to help move. They PROMISED they would keep her away. Bullshit. They brought her with them! My Mother-In-Law took our kids home with her so they wouldn't have to deal with the open doors exposing them to the icy cold weather while we were moving boxes in and out. Well.. The Brother-In-Law's girlfriend and THEIR KID ended up going with my kids and the Mother-In-Law. What the fuck is that about? I didn't realize they were even gone until a while later. Grr.

I thought we were all fine until Dan left for a Manager's meeting in Atlantic City on Wednesday. That's when Hunter started getting sick (that's always the way, isn't it?). Coughing, wheezing, running nose, up all night, the whole nine freaking yards. I figured it was your average run-of-the-mill cold.

Fast-Forward to yesterday (Friday). Hunter's cough had gotten worse and his nose was plugged up with stuff that wasn't clear (as it is with a normal cold). I give the Pediatrician a call (the same guy who was MY Pediatrician as a child. He's excellent, but he's gotta be like 150 years old by now). They tell me I should bring him right in and gave me an appointment for the afternoon. By the time the appointment rolled around, I was feeling uber-crappy myself and sent Dan to bring him instead. He called about a half hour later and told me it wasn't a cold---it's an upper-respiratory virus. Lovely shit, right? Hunter was given a prescription for Zithromax and they were sent on their way. We gave him his double-dose yesterday, and he's gotta have 3 more single doses (Today, Tomorrow, and Monday), then he'll be done with it and hopefully done with this infection.

I had my Mother-In-Law grab me some Zithromax-ish meds for me at her work and I took the first dose last night. Hopefully I'll be back to my abby-normal self in a couple of days. But last night was pure hell between the both of us.. We were coughing, sniffling and all that happy junk all night. We've both been up for good since about 3AM. Bleh. To top it all off, I re-started receiving that dreaded monthly visitor that I've had the pleasure of escaping for the past 14 months. It's back and only adds to my icky-ness. Double bleh.

So far, Delia and Dan have escaped this.
    ::knocks on wood::

Now, I've been a Mommy long enough to know (Nearly 15 years now), that kids are going to get sick at some point, no matter what you do. Some things are unavoidable. BUT... I also wouldn't bring my children around others if they were sick. It's a common fucking courtesy to other Moms, and ultimately the other kids who would have to suffer for someone else's stupidity.

Just figured I'd rant here to you all, as opposed to what I REALLY want to do. And that of course is, beating both of their faces to bloody pulps. I don't know---I still may end up doing just that anyway.

Rhiannon - you'll love this one:

My wife is a regular substitute teacher - you wouldn't believe some of the stories about parents sending sick children to school.

The most recent one was this divorced father who kept sending the poor child to school - school would call and have the father or nanny take her home - he'd send her back the next day sick(state law requires a child stay home 24 hours after a fever ends). It went on for the better part of a week.

This father ends up cussing out the school nurse and sends the child in sick the next day. Poor child is so sick that the nurse calls the father and tells him that if he does not pick this child up and take her to a physician immediately, the next phone call would be to 911. Her tongue was swollen, she was having trouble breating and she was drooling. (These are symptoms of epiglottitis - a very serious and potentially fatal condition)

The father did come in and pick up the child - took her to the doc and she was ADMITTED to the hospital and placed on IV antibiotics.

Some folks should not be allowed to breed.........

Ugh.. That's horrible, ILD! It's also so much worse because he was allowing his child to suffer AND he was exposing hundreds of other children to whatever she had.

When my oldest was in Kindergarten, he came down the Chicken Pox. Not a big deal, really, since everyone I know has gotten them including myself. But the thing was, the school was infected with the Pox because a little girl was sent to school (and she was in his classroom), while she had the open sores. Her parents apparently had her wear long sleeves all day and instructed her not to take them off so no one would see. That's the part that pissed me off. I thought that my oldest daughter (who was 3 at the time) was in the clear because it'd been about 3 weeks that my Son was done with them. No such luck. Come Xmas morning, she was covered head-to-toe in the Pox. At least they got them done and over with, but that wasn't the point. Grr. I hate stupid parents. When you're a parent, you not only look out for your own children, but other children as well. It's just a natural thing.

Hunter's doing a little better. It's Day 5 for him. He's bringing stuff up with his coughing, so that's a good sign that his chest is clearing up. He's got 2 more doses of the Azithromax and then he's done with the meds. Hopefully by then, he'll be done with this whole thing. He made me so happy last night though---he was in a really bad mood because he'd been coughing and all.. So I threw on his favorite music ("Gold Digger", and like his sister, "My Humps") He had a grand old time, giggling away and all 4 of us were dancing around like nuts. I just want him better so badly. He also felt a little better after his bath too. He's got an angry diaper rash (Supposedly it's all related, because he's got the squirts from the virus too), so soaking in the tub really made him feel good I think. He refused his cereal last night (he's been on it for 2 weeks now), but he's still nursing without a problem, thankfully.

Delia still is doing great. ::knock on wood:: She's got my Husband's immune system I think, because she's only been sick a couple of times in her almost 4 years. I'm hoping this will skip right past her and she won't get it.

The nights are the worst for me. It's Day 3 for me. I don't notice it much during the day except for the excuse-me-while-I-hack-up-a-lung cough that I've got going on. I've got 3 more doses of the meds and then that'll be it.

As for the Idiots---They know full well that they are on my shit list. I think they're a little scared, and I don't expect to see them around for quite some time. I have zero tolerance for irresponsibility when it comes to children--especially when it effects my OWN children. But I mean--Why would you even want to bring your child out in the cold weather if she was sick? Sheer stupidity is all it is.

I really really hope I'm better by the 14th though. That's when I'm due to go in and have oral surgery (all 4 of the wisdom teeth are going bye-bye.. But I'll be under for it). I'd hate to have to deal with that AND being sick on top of it.

Thanks, Whirlz. We haven't heard about Delia's surgery date yet, so I'm going to give the Hospital a call tomorrow to find out. They probably tried to call to schedule, but we've changed phone numbers since the move to the new apartment.

I'm dreading that one, though. I'd rather have ALL of my teeth yanked than to have her go through getting this done.

I feel you! My 13 month old daughter went a whole year without getting sick but the moment I sign her up for gymboree and take her to a few classes and she gets sick. Some people are just so inconsiderate.

O...M...G...I would have driven over to the Girlfriend's house and beat her ass. That would piss me off to no end.

I hear you about the sickness thing, though. Makayla is school-aged and I know she'll pick up some lovely stuff and bring it home...but it pisses me off when parents knowingly send their children to school when they're sick. Grrrrrr. I did feel bad, though, because Makayla woke up one morning almost 3 weeks ago not wanting to go to school (this has become a ritual since Adrian was born, LOL). The first thing out of her mouth was, "I'm still tired...", then it was, "I don't want to go..." then it was, "I don't feel good." So, since she does that every school morning, I sent her anyways. Well, I picked her up from school, gave her lunch and put her down for her nap (which was my first clue when she fell asleep without a fight). She slept for 4 hours and when she woke up, she had a fever of 102.1. She complained that her throat hurt...got her popsicles and let her eat as many as she wanted. She woke up Friday morning complaining that it hurt to swallow. YIKES!! Off to the doc for a strep test and sure enough...she had strep throat. Needless to say I called the school and felt really bad for sending her.

Well, anywho...I hope you and Hunter feel better soon!!! Give him a hug and kiss from me (don't worry, I'm good and healthy, LOL).

My aunt is like this... she drags her kid everywhere and when he gets sick, he STAYS sick... so not ONLY is she dragging the kid out to bars with her, she ;s exposing everyone else to whatever he has... including my baby sister... now my mother is the most insane germaphobe i've ever met... if you knew that your sister in law was a germophobelike that, would you risk having your sick kid around her kid?

Wow. I just got done with some Zithromax, and of course it did it's job of making everything XTRA horrible. Wow, antibiotics in little kids. It's just wrong. I can imagine--no wait I can remember! Hard to believe the dose is the same tho for a kid and an adult with some things.

It's not the same dose. It may be the same length of time, but it's definitely not the same dose.

It's definitely not the same dose as it is for Adults. He's taking it in the pediatric liquid form.. He took 2ML the first day, and for days 2, 3, 4, and 5, he takes 1ML. And I'm all for antibiotics if they help my kids---and in all my experience, they have when they've needed them. That's not the way that a lot of other people feel of course, with antibiotics and immunizations alike in little children. But, it works for me and mine.. So we go with it.

As for Delia's luck---It's running out unfortunately. She's been running a fever since early this morning (around 4:30 AM) when Dan woke me up to check it. He thought she felt hot. It wasn't extremely high (101.5), but it's enough to get her seen. I gave the Pediatrician a call and Dan's taking her in for 3:30. So far, she hasn't shown any other symptoms, so if she gets on the meds she can avoid the what Hunter and I have been going through. We'll see what the Doctor says.

I told Dan though--for future reference to feel the soles of her feet. If they're flaming hot, she's got a fever. There's no need to wake me up when I haven't slept for 3 nights, and I'm finally sound asleep cuddled up with Hunter who also hadn't slept for 3 nights. Grr.

As for the Girlfriend.. VG, you have no idea how much strength and restraint I've used not to give the twat a call and totally hand her as to her on a platter. She can be stupid all she wants with her OWN kid.. But don't expose my kids to crap that I try to keep them away from. It would've been different if there was a coughing kid in a store or something and they caught it there. But when you bring a sick, coughing, drooling 1-year-old who likes to touch EVERYONE and EVERYTHING into MY home, around my children.. It's all sorts of wrong and completely inexcusable. And then to go WITH them to my In-Laws' when we wanted to keep our kids AWAY from the sickness? Bullshit. She'll be on my shitlist for a VERY long time.

Honey.. Your aunt needs a serious ass-kicking. Grrr. Bars? What the fuck is wrong with the broad?

Maybe they couldn't readily afford a babysitter, and felt like it was a choice between bringing her along or ditching your move? When I was teenager I worked in a daycare (and, really, I think daycare is a great environment for kids - far better than being at home all day EXCEPT (and big except) they get sick ALL THE TIME) and I could get very (internally) irritated at parents sending their kids in sick. In retrospect, I suspect they didn't feel that they had much choice except to try to swing it. We still can't keep the sick kids around, but I have a bit more sympathy now for parents who have to go to work.

God, I feel sooooo bad. I'm doing OBGYN clinicals in nursing school, and I was in postpartum the other day. I hadn't gotten much sleep, so I assumed that the aching and headache was from fatigue, and that my sore throat was from dry hospital air (it's so fucking dry in those places that you have to apply chapstick every 5 minutes). It turns out that I really was sick, and I exposed some little babies and immunocompromised postpartum moms to the bug. Yikes, maybe I'll actually assume I'm sick the next time I feel crummy. I hope that I didn't start an epidemic...

They could've ditched the move in that case, Jenny. Or SHE could've stayed home with the kid. She wasn't going to help anyway. She's just ultra-clingy and can't be away from my Brother-In-Law for more than 2 seconds when he's not at work. Her ass could've stayed home with her sick child. But, no. That would've made too much fucking sense.

Yay! Hunter's doing about a million percent better. Today's his last dose of the meds. He no longer has that hacking cough (and it WAS scary), and it's the first time in like a week he's slept all night, with the occasional nursing, that is.

I'm doing much better too. Which is good because I have to go for the surgery consultation today, and then my oral surgery is tomorrow at 9:15 in the morning.

We took Delia to the Doctor yesterday because of the fever. She wasn't showing any symptoms of the virus but we figured it was better safe than sorry. The Pediatrician checked her out and noticed that her throat was getting a bit too red. So, he wanted to nip-it-in-the-bud before the virus even gets a chance to get going with her. He prescribed the Zithromax to her and she took her double-dose yesterday to start off with. Hopefully she'll miss the worst of it.

KJ.. There's really nothing you could've done if you were starting to get sick and already at the OB/GYN. Now, if you knew you were sick, were hacking and sneezing all over the place, and went into someone's house and exposed them.. That's where you could prevent it. But, you didn't do that. It's all good.
