They're the most standardized job screening tool for employers there is. Companies want them simple and easy to follow because they often electronically scan them into a large database so they can weed through them faster/save them for later. They'd rather them be plain-jane than gussied up.
There are a ton of samples here:
Basically it's a contest of who can put the most flattering info about them onto one piece of paper without lying (or getting caught, that is)
Ummm, strippers dont need resumes cally... please tell me your not quitting dancing cause of the situation with your guy?
Strippers don't need resumes but sometimes people need to move on, or need to consider moving on, or just need to know their options.
Cally, feel free to email what you have. My roommate used to work in HR and would be happy to read it over.
I have taught that the sky in all its zones is mortal and its substance was formed by a process of birth
I figure it doesnt hurt to throw together a resume and apply for a few real world jobs. It doesnt hurt to try a real job.... if it doesnt work out well at least I tried and I can go back to dancing.
Sure , thats true. but she actually sounds like she loved the feature way of dancing she was working towards. Cally just make sure your doing it for YOU not him.
I read enough of them to know what I like and all. What do you want to know?
If it's an entry level call center job, it's not hard to get. They love to hear about strengths like customer service, problem solving, ability to learn effectively, communication and people skills, and responsibility.
Try looking at monster.com. I believe that's a great site for worldwide jobs and they let you put a resume on there and employers contact you. I think they also have good resume tools.
OK..include the following...some of this may seem basic...
1-Name
2-Address
3-Telephone/Cell Phone
4-Email address
5-Objective (briefly state what kind of work you want. Be brief and to the point)
6-Educational background (schools attended from high school forward. Include GPA if it's good. Include major and degree earned if you attended college).
7-Work History (list, in order from most recent backwards, the jobs you have held. List the date, then the name of the company, then the job, then the responsiblities you had).
8-Skills (list any special skills you possess...typing, computer, technical, etc)
9-Awards/Accomplishments (list work-related or educational awards you've won. You do not need to explain them...save that for interviews)
10-Activities (list any activities that have been related to your work or education...clubs, etc)
11-Personal (list what you do outside of work...especially if what you do or have done is unusual and interesting...like backpacked across Europe, hiked the Appalachian Trail, or the like).
PROOFREAD IT 10 TIMES and then have someone you know who is good with grammar/spelling proof it for you.
Keep a clean, simple layout. Don't write too much. Get to the point.
For a job like a call center, they'll want to know that ...
1-You'll show up
2-That you are responsible
3-That you have a modicum of intelligence
4-You have not taken and then immediately quit a lot of jobs
If you have gaps in your employment record, be prepared to explain them...in fact, if they are large, put something in the jobs section of your resume that explains the gap as if what you were doing in the gap was a job.
Hope that helps.
Read the ad for the job your applying for, and include thoes keywords. Like if they say they are looking for a hardworking, punctual employee, make sure under your strenghts you put down that your very punctual or whatever.
Try to keep it to 1 page long. Anything longer than that, they probably wont read. Use bullet points to highlight what you want them to see. make sure that the important information you want them to know stands out so if they just skim over the resume, they can easily find the important info.
