    Default Shingles

Who here has had shingles? What precipitated you getting it? How long did the illness last and how did you feel when you were ill?

I was diagnosed with it yesterday.

I had it, I dont know why I got it but I'm assuming stress. I went to the dr first sign and got antibiotics so it didnt get that bad and it went away after 3 weeks but the scars it left are still slightly visible. I got them on my boob and middle of my chest and I was getting my boobs done in a couple of weeks and had to reschedule so I was pissed. I had vicodin for the pain. It honestly wasnt that bad because of the antibiotics I took but still not pleasurable, that's for sure. Sorry to hear you got it, but remember- it will pass!

I've only had it once but it was one time too many. It first presented with really strange back pain (two to three days before it really came on), for which I visisted my chiropracter thinking it was musculature and that he could help me. Thinking he had resolved everything one or two days later the shingles arrived. I had 3-5 "dots" on the right side of my midsection about the level of my upper abdominal muscles and have never, ever felt pain like that before. Most ppl can only understand pain that is on superficial or dermal level but if you have had shingles you understand that it is way way way way down on the level of the nerves, and that SUCKS!

Anyway, mine went away in about a week or two and I did not have any meds b/c I currently don't have any medical insurance. For the whole time though my boyfriend could not touch me b/c it was too painful and rest was the only thing I could do to remedy the whole situation. My shingles were a result of working way way wayy too hard but there are usually many reasons they present themselves so please ask your doctor if you have them.

    Good luck to you!

I had it following a very stressful labor & delivery. About 2 days after she was born the top of my arm & one side of my back hurt so bad that NOTHING could touch it. It even hurt for water from the shower to hit it. It was a very weird kind of pain though, kind of like the feeling you get when your hand goes to sleep only much worse. I had no clue what it was and I waited about a month before getting it checked out, and once I was on medication it was gone within a couple weeks.

My lesions are already fading (yay for antivirals!) but I still feel itchy as hell alot of the time, and I still feel terribly fragile physically.

I've been lucky in that my case hasn't been all that painful.
