First black man to run for president?

You need to sit down with a history book because I know Jesse Jackson was out there running for president a few years ago.

Want to hear the sad thing - this is what he is up against:

A black woman declaring Obama is not black.

I know Jessie Jacskon was talking about running, I never knew he actually put in for it! What history books should I be looking into! That woman or whom ever talking about him not being black. That person have issues, oh and that link that video did not play at all.

Since when in america black has been a choice!

You can get started with history right here:

Seriously though, you disagree with that woman because you are of a different generation than she is.

Many of the "black community" - Jesse Jackson - Al Sharpton - they remember shit like "white water fountain" and "colored water fountain." So they believe that a person never experienced that - then they aren't "black."

Granted growing up with that - it's a hard thing to shake off. But more and more they are irrelevant to the political process and they hate it.

Obama has my vote if the democrats don't tear him up in the primaries. A part of me thinks the "good ole boy" network of "black leaders" have no intention of him rocking the boat they need to float to stay relevant.

(That boat basically being floated by victim hood and racism. Inter-racial marriage is a bit hard on the idea of white racism and a black man rising up the ranks because of his ideas and chrisma is a bit hard on the idea of victim hood.)

Mark my words - if there is one thing black people are good at doing - it's shooting down other black people.

It's really sad - because deep down in my heart I think America needs a man like Obama right now.

Than I guess all the blacks died after that time. Al sharpton I believe is corrupt as the rest of the guys in the goverment today. It is time for america to start anew.

I know blacks do tend to shoot down other black people. I just believe we have to break the cycle. Out with the old in with the new. America needs him because we need a change. Him being black to me his a sign of us breaking that cycle. So many people are afraid of doing well, because they believe whites will bring them down, or try to kill them.

Beside Obama color he is a smart and good man. We as America need a strong leader whom uses his brain for the better good.

We are talking about a system and country that elected George Bush -- twice.

Unfortunately, we are probably getting the leaders we deserve. Obama is to good for us right now unless I am unaware of a mass change in the US. It's hard to determine that with all the Anna Nicole news on the TV. Maybe now and then a fact will slip through.

Obama may have announced his candidacy, but that does not make him the Democratic candidate for president in 2008. The DNC is going to take a large number of 'electibility' issues into account by the time the actual candidate is chosen.

#1 - if Obama is nominated 100% of black American voters will vote for him. If a different Democratic candidate is nominated 90-95% of black American voters will vote for the Democratic candidate. Thus nominating Obama amounts to at best an extra 10% of 10% or 1% advantage over a different Democratic nominee in terms of national election results.

#2 - Obama's glaring lack of experience in regard to just about everything 'presidential' i.e. no high stakes management experience, no military experience, no 'big money' experience, no foreign relations experience (other than his early exposure to Muslim culture) is going to raise questions in the minds of many 'crossover' voters of both parties. The probable net 'loss' of swing voter support during the national election is highly likely to be much larger than the extra 1% of net votes Obama could bring to the ballot box vs a different Democratic nominee.

I actually wish Obama the best of luck because, regardless of individual political beliefs, many of us are of the opinion that Washington DC is badly in need of a major 'shake-up'.

However, I suspect that the recent political lesson learned from the CT senate race between Ned Lamont and Joe Lieberman will not be lost when it comes time for the Democrats to actually choose their 2008 presidential candidate. In many ways, Obama and Lamont share many common threads ... they both appeal to the extreme left, they both have very limited experience relative to the position they are seeking, they both are the 'darling' of mainstream media but lack solid connections to SERIOUS election support i.e. 527's and historic DNC supporters (and industries). There is one big difference though - Ned Lamont owned his own media outlets and had millions of dollars worth of his own money to support his campaign, whereas Barack Obama will be totally dependent of 'external' media and financial support.

And the 'tin foil hat' crowd will tell you that there are many conservatives / far right wingers who are hoping that Obama will ultimately be the 2008 Presidential candidate as well, based on hopes that 'swing voters' will desert Obama in droves thus making the election of a Republican for president in 2008 much more likely.

Again, I don't mean to offend anyone by raising this issue, but from a standpoint of political realities the American black vote really doesn't matter much anymore. No democratic candidate is going to possibly be able to drum up any significant amount of additional support from American black voters than the democratic ticket already gets. No republican candidate is going to possibly be able to drum up any significant amount of support from American black voters, period. Therefore, in the back rooms of political conventions, nominees or policies involving special appeal to American black voters offer little overall positives but a bunch of potential negatives. Thus the back room discussions will undoubtedly dwell on other nominees and policies that involve the gain / loss of votes from groups whose support of democratic vs republican candidates is somewhat in doubt i.e. Mexican Americans, retirees, laid off former Union workers etc.

I can't wait for ads from Obama's opponents - both Democratic and Republican that is going to point out a) his middle name.. of hussein.. OBAMA HUSSEIN BARACK b) the fact that he supposedly attended a 'maddrassa' - Islamic religious school

    I'm hoping to see Clinton/Obama vs McCain/Guilani

Guilani would be the total fucking devil for this industry and imagine the gestapo Homeland Security would turn into under that guy.

Yup - I can attest to his 'legacy' on Manhattan strip club earnings potential, which has never even come close to recovering ! But at least we have a pretty good idea where Rudy (or for that matter Hilary, Newt, McCain etc.) is coming from. On the other hand, Barack Obama is a total 'joker in the deck' due to his lack of track record.

You're not offending me, for one. I'm just trying to remember when it did matter though I mean seriously, the only thing that seems to matter is keeping us away from the polls, but I'd better not go off on that bunny trail

^^^ OK then I won't have to resurrect (pardon the pun) claims of Illinois election voters whose body temperatures were well below 98 degrees, which arguably affected such elections as Obama to the US Senate and JFK to the US presidency !

Jesse Jackson made a serious run in 1988. I was one of his state reps for the Washington state caucus and went to Olympia in an attempt to make Jesse Jackson the democratic nominee. It went to Michael Dukaukis.

Al Sharpton ran in 2004, also. He didn't get as much press as Jesse Jackson in '88, though.

I like him and think he would be a great global representative for our country. After all, I think that is an integral facet about our leader. He is a bit young and inexperienced though in some areas such as military and global issues.

But I'm very happy to hear about this. As far as voting, I'd be torn between him and hottie Edwards.

He's got no hope, and has to know it. I can only presume he's angling for the VP spot/attention for a future campaign.

Hillary couldn't ask for a better running mate. She would have absolutely no hope running with a white male. Put Obama on her ticket, and it's a whole different story. Although, I seriously doubt hope had anything to do with it.

We just do not and cannot know enough about his track record. This is in spite of his apparent sincerity and thoughtfulness. Maybe after completing his current Senate or after another one.

The US has had enough of presidential neophytes, with very limited track records, learning the basics after they are elected. Yeah, we elected him twice so we deserve him, I guess. But we need a reliable leader, not another most popular handsome candidate.
I loved going to strip clubs; I actually made some friends there. Now things are different for the clubs and for me. As a result I am not as happy.

(snip)"COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Two key black political leaders in South Carolina who backed John Edwards in 2004 said Tuesday they are supporting Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's bid for the Democratic presidential nomination.

State Sens. Robert Ford and Darrell Jackson told The Associated Press they believe Clinton is the only Democrat who can win the presidency. Both said they had been courted by Illinois Sen. Barack Obama; Ford said Obama winning the primary would drag down the rest of the party.

You know statements like that sure do remind me of the 60's. Yet change is not always welcome. I guess If we let people statements stops us for opening our eyes. Than we deserve to be blind. I only can say let time tell. I guess blacks would have never faught for the right to vote. We will not have that option! So out with the old on with new, Time do not stop for anyone, so change is bound to happen!
