    Default Cat question...

Ok so up until a few days ago I thought I knew a good deal about cats and their behavior, I have had plenty in my life and I work at the humane society. But in the last couple of days my cat has started to display some very odd behaviors, and it is perplexing me alot. My cat, Spike, was hand raised by me and is less than a year old. I just took him to be neutered a couple of days ago because it was that time and he was starting to spray and getting alittle too vocal. So I took him to the vet, he got fixed, I brought him home and all seemed well. He actually did better than any other cat I have ever had in coping with the surgery, he wasnt pissy or groggy he seemed normal. Well I have another cat, Remy, who I have had for almost 3 years and he has been around for Spikes whole life. Remy is an old man who at best seems to just tolerate Spikes incessant need to play all the time and bagder him. This was never a problem before because Spike would just curl up on me to sleep where as Remy sleeps at the top of the stairs or in the bathroom on the heater vent. Ever since I have brought Spike home from the vet he has been strangley obsessed with Remy. He follows right next to him everywhere he goes, is meowing at him like crazy, licking him and sleeping right next to him in the bathroom. ITS FREAKING WIERD. They have always been friends but Spike never really cared that much, he preferred us to Remy. I cant even get Spike to leave Remy alone for 5 seconds, they were NEVER like that before. Do you think maybe it is some wierd hormonal thing, Spike is stressed and acting wierd? I dont get it, I have never seen a cat act like that except babies to their mothers...Should I take him back to the vet? Anyone who knows anything about this crazy business please let me know...

They smell the vet's office on him and can tell something's wrong (his surgery). Ours always acted freaky towards whatever cat just came back from the vets. He should chill out eventually.

He's okay. Getting fixed is kinda traumatic for the cat...ya know going to sleep with your junk still there then awaking to knowing something is missing...so I would chalk it up to two things:
    1. Spike need some kitty comforting
    2. He really missed Remy while gone. Kinda like a separation anxiety.

I have five cats, and my one male is very affectionate with my other male. It perfectly okay. You just have a very affectionate kitty!

it's probably the hormonal changes. my male cat got a million times more clingy and affectionate immediately after he was neutered.

But its not Remy that is acting funny, its Spike(the one who got neutered)....

But its just seems wierd, and not really in an affectionate way. More like in a psychotic, obsessed, wont leave him alone way. And he was NEVER like that with Remy before-EVER! I cant explain it well enough to do it justice, it just seems plain out wierd.

I just had my cat Harry neutered and I also have a much older cat called Bill. They are both getting along like brothers, they lick each other, play loads more with each other etc. Nothing seems to be wrong there just a bit more playful than they used to, doesn't really bother me.

For your cats they are just starting to get used to each other like "brothers" should do. I would not worry about it, there is nothing the Vet could do anyway. Just let them play and get along with each other you will soon get used to it in a few days.
