    Promo Photos/Posters ???

Before I even book a shoot with someone so that I can have two-three promo photos........... I would like to see if I have anything already "on hand" that I could possibly use.

I need photos that can be printed out as A3 size posters. What width and height would a photo have to be (basically the requirements) in order for it to be 'useable' for such a purpose?

Otherwise, I am looking for someone Brisbane or Gold Coast or Tweed based who might be able to help me out here. I need to be able to use the image(s) commercially so contact me ( [email protected] ) if you would be interested in setting up such a shoot ...........and it must include hair and make-up professionally done as well.

It's not the width and height that would matter in this case... for once (in the goddamn camera field) it's the megapixels!

So the higher the megapixels, the better chance you have of blowing it up.

    Anyway... what's it for?

Darwin, my online store (www.goldcoastgirl.biz) and other ventures.

So how can I find out if the photo that I have from the photographer is the right megapixels? Where would this information be found ? (I have Photoshop)

Would anything with 72 ppi work ?

megapixels is the amount of detail in a photo... There is really no need for it to be high unless you plan on making posters or you want to focus on one face ina crowd of 300 in a photo... so I highly doubt any of your photos were used in this sense... if you get a photo and enlarge it 3x and it looks blurry.. it wasn't high enough.

Tell your photographer you want to do photos for posters to be say 11x17 and you need them in high resolution images.

Trust me its not as complicated as you may think

It is just that I swear I may have some photos already that I can possibly use and if I can I would love to do so instead of having to go thru the hassle of a photo shoot if at all possible (since I have a whole heap of photos only taken last year so they aren't that old and I havn't changed much since them........ plus I have limited time that I can use to actually do a shoot).

All the photos that I'm looking at possibly using are saying that they are 72 pixels per inch when I go into the "image > image size" of each photo (via Photoshop).... is this good enough? I can zoom in to about 500% before I start actually see-ing the pixels on the photos I'm looking at using... is this good enough?

No, it's not.. that's actually pretty shitty, IMO... not even enough to blow up a little bit. 300 pixels per inch is what would work really well.

You'll need new photos. I can hook you up with Eye Candy/Kate.. she's easy to work with.

Damn. I paid good money especially for two of the photos I was planning to use one of out of the two so that they COULD be used on posters. Fuck. I was ripped off.

Email me (or PM me) her email address so I can get into contact with her.

She's on my top 8 on myspace... number 5 I think, just message her and say I sent you.

She'll probably give a decent deal if you came from me... if you promise some SERIOUS advertising (like I'm doing now... and have been doing for months).... I'm even passing out her cards at my wedding.. hahaha.. and even then I'm only getting a discount... woo..

I contacted her as well as putting out a "photographer wanted" ad as such on the OZModel forum, NetModel forum and MuseCube. I'm wanting to shoot bikini, costume (my own) and implied nude so then I can have a nice variety of images I can then sell as posters.

The advertising is no problem. I can put her in my Top Friends list, put a link on my website and even allow her to watermark the images with her website address so that whenever I sell one or give them away (or sell them) at my shows ... she is advertised.

I'm a professional photographer (not in Ausie, not hitting you up for the gig) and I'd say 5MP would be the minimum acceptable for 11x17/A3 size (about 2megs each image), 8mp is better. Preferably RAW format (150-300 dpi) but a lightly-edited JPG at 72 will probably work "ok"

email me at [email protected] or PM me with more questions.

Hi, Not sure if you already solved your issue... If you go into Photoshop to image size, you can set the size to be what you want, i.e. 11x16 inches, (or 297 x 420mm, or whatever) and it will resize. You need to set 200 to 300 dpi for good print quality. Try printing, even if it is just a portion, like a crop of a face on your regular printer to check the quality.

Interpolating (using photoshop or other software to change the image size, resolution, etc) is not really the greatest answer. Small changes are OK and will work, especially if you "trade" size for resolution (turn a large 72 dpi image to a smaller 150 dpi image) but if you simply use PS to blow up the image...or change resolution, the interpolation will eventually ruun out of information and the photo will look blurry or pixelated.

basically, run a cheap test print with a good printer to see if the interpolation worked.

I make all of my posters and cards at 300 dpi. My friend who is a printer says that's the ideal size, in his opinion.
