Sensodyne or some other toothpaste for sensitive teeth will help a lot. Also avoid sweets.

do you generally have good teeth? my teeth used to be fab but years of sticking my hand down my throat and over-brushing my teeth wore the enamel off which also made my teeth more yellow...and I've been told not to use bleaching kits because it'll make my teeth brittle and incredibly sensitive.

so not implying that you've done anything to wreck your teeth, but my cousin was born with not much enamel on her teeth and had the same thing.

I have very thin enamel and my teeth were yellow from it too, but I did Zoom Whitening with no problems. It took more treatments - They did three 20-minute cycles the first time and then I went back a week later for another two cycles - but my teeth are finally white and pretty. I was looking at a picture from this past November earlier today and I can't believe the difference; they were so hideous and brownish-yellow before, and now they gleam white!

It did make them more sensitive, but only for a day or two and nothing I couldn't handle.

other than sensodyne I don't think there's much you can do unless you just stop the bleaching. I'm not allowed to bleach anymore. Apparently I have acid reflux and my enamel is dangerously thin. No bleach, no zoom and supposedly no veneers either.

Is it just sensitivity due to air or cold liquids? Or is it actual pain? Is it your gums or your teeth? If it's the gums then maybe you are applying too much gel and it's leaking onto the gums.

i have great teeth, except for a filling needed (and thats not the bit thats hurting) they dont seem sensitive- i can eat something hot or cold and my teeth dont seem to hurt from it. its more like the teeth themselves are pushing into each other. if that makes sence. its like a dull pain all over my teeth, its worse in the front 6 or so top and bottom.

i went to the dentist to get the molds made for my teeth, and had an overall check up, they never mentioned anything about not having much enamel on my teeth or anything.

    ow.

it kinda feels more like the bit between my teeth that hurts. not the whole tooth.

Dang, I dunno. Maybe just go for the gold and get the strong bleach and just try to get it done as quickly as possible?

if its gonna hurt my teeth for another week and a half anyways, i might as well get the pain over and done with in half a week

Sensodyne takes a lot of time to build up protection to reduce pain. Weeks or months. So that's more of a long-term solution.

You must have a lot of root exposure to be experiencing that kind of pain from the lowest-level concentration. What percentage concentration are you using?

I started at 15% and decided that the better idea was to switch to 10% for a longer time period and just be patient. It worked out really well (my dentist brags about my results to all his patients) but it's about time for a tune-up.

I just had this problem, in fact. I was using Classic Crest whitestrips, (the weakest of the strips) b/c I have sensitive teeth. I think the cold temps here had something to do with it, this last time was the worst ever. I only use like once a week, tops & now w/the weather will wait til it warms up.

    These things worked for me;
In addition to using the bleach less frequently, try using a flouride rinse after each time you bleach. If you are having gum sensitivity, rubbing vaseline on your gums to protect them before using the bleach can help. Also never brush your teeth right before, it can make you much more sensitive. I actually no longer needed the special toothpaste after making these small changes.

YES^! I brushed the last time, right b/4 using the strips, & I noticed the extreme pain after that. I do use the floride rinse, & will try some of the other stuff, thanks.

Oh this thread reminded me of why i have not done a bleaching kit in years I had the worst troble with this. I am doing the crest vivid white tooth paste instead. I brush in the morning with the crest vivid white and rinse with the crest whiting rinse (which tastes like bathroom cleaner yuck) and at night I am brushing with the vivid white night and i am brushing with the crest spin brush. I am seeing results I am pleased with doing this and no pain.

I feel you. I use the Whitestrips and at first it was a dull ache, then a moderate pain, then if I so much as opened my mouth and inhaled, my teeth would KILL. Anyone who has had braces understand that pain, when they have been just put on or tightened. You want to cry and eat nothing but V8 and juice.

I too have very sensitive enamel and the whitening strips make my teeth soo sensitive, I can't stand it! Crest Vivid White whitening toothpaste works really really good. Brushing twice a day and flossing once a day is essential too. I quit drinking soda and coffee and that really helped my teeth as well. Find a juice or flavored water you like and that will help you quit/cut back on the soda intake. I'm in school to be a Dental Hygienist

Agreed! The toothpaste is wonderful! I just can't stand the fact that Procter and Gamble makes it.
