Ya, opting out of getting vaccinatted isn't for anyone, but with my family history and complcations from my 18 month shots, I'm glad it's an option, and I like to unveil the secret! I'm shocked by how few people know their rights and options, and how much doctors, pharmasutical co. and the gov't hides it!!!

I'm all for the vaccine and will get it once I cease to be so poor, but I fear what will happen once the drug companies gain even more hegemony once they pay up their metaphorical thirty pieces of silver to the government. While I'd love all girls to have decreased chances of cervical cancer, this is a wolf in sheep's clothing. The "good intentions" of preventing cervical cancer is a scheme to have the liability taken off their shoulders and keep all the profits.

As much as I'd love to shove it it the conservatives' and biblethumpers' faces that their innocent daughters very well may contract HPV-gone-cervical cancer even if they wait for the men they marry (or that they're not as innocent as they think), it's the surrounding issues that concern me. I forsee a big, wiggly, slimy can of worms.

God, the teen pregnancy rates here in Texas are astronomical. However, they don't take into account that it's partly cultural. We have tons of Mexicans. In some facets of their culture, it's normal to start having children at a young age. Yeah, we also have no sex ed to speak of. My aunt used to volunteer for a crisis hotline and was horrified at how stupid there pregnant teens were.

I think they should be mandatory. I don't think that girls should be exposed to the virus due to parental beliefs about it 'encouraging pre-marital sex'. Mandating the vaccine prevents the later suffering of children at their parents' behest.

Pretty much all of us are in favor of it for those reasons. Our qualms are political and that drug companies are going to waltz their way into the government to do as they damn please.

Ever since Thalidomide, you can bet drugs have been tested. The problem is that it has not been tested OVER LONG PERIODS OF TIME. DES (drug given to women after miscarriages) didn't rear its ugly head until years later, and affected both mother and child. I'd like to see lifespan continuing studies of a significant number of women, including ones at risk for cervical cancer and HPV.

Technically speaking, this drug was tested for short term. Medically and scientifically speaking, THIS DRUG WAS NOT TESTED!!!! A test is NOT truly a test without a placebo or a control. The "placebo" group in this study of only 20,000 women was given a shot containing aluminum salt, WHICH IS A COMPONENT OF THE GARDASIL ITSELF. Which would make the placebo, NOT a placebo. In fact only 320 people were given a TRUE saline-based placebo. So, in other words, less than 2% of women tested were in the true "control" group of this experiement!

And if Merck gets their way and this becomes a mandatory vaccine, Merck will assume no legal or financial responsibility should this drug prove to be harmful in any way, shape or form. It will become the responsibility of the US government (i.e. the taxpayers, i.e. you and I)

The idea that a mandatory vaccination could encourage premarital sex is a bit ridiculous, in my eyes. Parents who believe that their kid getting vaccinated for HPV will stop them from abstaining until marriage need their heads checked. Teenagers are going to have sex, regardless of whether their parents taught them it was right or wrong.
In regards to Merck not having any legal responsibility if the drug proves to be harmful, that's a bit scary. I just think that the people protesting Gardasil are protesting for the wrong reasons.
