I dont think it's safe or wise to use your real name.
I don't use mine but I use a name that sounds realistic enough to be a real name - Jessica.

Hell, I use my real name. My real last name, too. I also give out my address so that regulars can send me presents.

My stage name is Lily, and nothing remotely like my real name. If I'm being pestered for my real name, I tell them it's Jen because I'm always being told I look like a Jen. Sometimes I'll tell them Lily is my middle name. I've also occasionally said that Lily is my real name, because I don't care who knows I'm dancing. This goes over really big with certain types of customers.

I had an obviously fake stage name once - Dixie - and it was a major pain in the ass. I find Lily to be much easier to play off, and it lets me build a better rapport with my kind of customer.

What really surprised me was when I figured out that a bunch of dancers were just exchanging names. One's real name was another's fake name. It dawned on me when I was on the stairmaster at the gym and gym staff called a dancer I only knew by her fake name to pick up her son from the child care area.
"He will come in one of the pre-chosen forms. During the rectification of the Vuldrini, the traveler came as a large and moving Torg! Then, during the third reconciliation of the last of the McKetrick supplicants, they chose a new form for him: that of a giant Slor! Many Shuvs and Zuuls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of the Slor that day, I can tell you!"

I use a fake name that sounds like a real name.
    I still get asked, though.
    What usually happens is this:
    "what is your real name?"
    "that is my real name!"
    "really?"
    "no."
then they usually laugh and don't ask anymore.

Hell no I don't use my real name. I've almost always used the same stage name. What sucks is that my stage name is the first name of a singer (who I'm not really a fan of) and when I picked the name, her career was dead. I never thought the bitch would make a come-back. So sometimes customers will be like, Oh you must be a fan of -----. I just always liked the name and people always tell me I look like a M-----.

for the millionth time as this topic has been covered

YES I dance by my real name. It is Vanessa. I do not use my real middle nor last/surname as my stage name thus Vanessa Stacy is fake. Vanessa is not.

I honestly don't see the trouble with using your real name here as you are ONLY using your FIRST name. How the hell is anyone able to get ANYTHING on you with JUST your first name to use? They need more than that.. like suburb where you live and so forth to be able to get any information.

I'm just not a naturally paranoid person.

I've been dancing since 2001 and primarily used Vanessa all that time and I've (thank the God/dess) never had a problem.

I've revealed I've used the following (below) before and for years and yet to have anyone "call" me on it ... and considering Vanessa is my real name I know I will win every time:

    What usually happens is this:
    "what is your real name?"
    "that is my real name!"
    "really?"
"put $100 on the table now so I can prove it to you by getting my driver's license"
basically "put up or shut up" and they shut up pretty quick

I really wish someone would one day call me on it. Nice easy $100.

I danced by my real name the first time I danced, but I decided that if I wanted to develop a more 'alternate' personality for my hustle, I had to adopt a different name. So I used my dominatrix name and called myself Alexxa.
When I started dancing in nude clubs, I felt it was necessary to change even more, so I just shortened it to Lexi.
I might change it again when I go back. It helps me stay fresh and on top of my game.

GCG, it kinda sounds like you are yelling.

I have danced by my real name before, but never anywhere near here. To tell you the truth I never really thought it was a big deal. Until yesterday. Sorry in advance for telling my story in your thread.

I walked by a customer who I did not recognize. He says to me, "weren't you coming over here to take me to VIP?" He is sounding playful, so I say yes I was, etc. We get there, I ask him his name, he asks mine. I tell him it is Sapphire. He tells me that I look more like a "Jamie." That is my real name. The thing is he acted as if he was was more caught off guard than me. No one knows my real name there. B/c my name is so fake people always say, "you look like a (insert common name)." But they never actually guess it. It was crazy. I really want to believe it was just a fluke.
I am going to change club again soon. I am thinking about just picking a normal name so I don't have to have that conversation all the time.
So, the moral is realish names are good and so are fake real names.

My stage name, Keeley, is nothing like my real name - but I always tell people it's my real name. I throw in my real middle name sometimes with it and say, Yup, Keeley Lynne.... Haha. For some reason throwing in a middle name always makes them beleive me, even though Keeley is an uncommon name. Meh. I would have used my real name if it hadn't already been taken.

I know what you mean about the obviously fake stage name. Originally I was Rose, natch, but at one of the new clubs it was taken (by someone who is NEVER THERE anymore, but oh well), so there I am Cherry. I felt pretty sassy about it at the time, but because it's obviously fake, I get hassled a lot more. Rose is a bit more realistic. It now functions as my fake real name.

I've also, when feeling particularly irked by the interrogation for the real name, blatantly lifted a suggestion from here (if this is your line, stand forward and claim your rightful credit): "My real name? It's Candy Cupcakes!" It usually gets a laugh and they get the point & drop it.

SIGH. As much as I personally like Cherry, though, I wish I'd gone with Holly. At least I'm still Rose at some clubs.

If you think about it, using your real first name might be the perfect bit of reverse psycology. Think of Natalie Portman's character in Closer.

I just want to add, O Original Poster, that I think "Hot Pocket" as a stage name would be a riot. Especially if always sung as per the commercial.

I use my friend's name as my stage name, but I would use my real first name if that name is taken at a club already. It hasn't happen yet though.

TECHNICALLY I don't use my real name... except EVERYONE calls me 'Morrigan'... even my mum and partner.. it's been my 'real' name since I was 11, it's getting changed once I get married.

But fuck if anyone believes my last name is Slayde.
