Default Either really hot or really cold. Why is that?

Why is it you're either really hot or really cold when it comes to your hustle? THe whole month of January I just was banking like crazy and now this whole month of Feb I've been struggling! In January I was getting VIP's like crazy and now I can't seem to get any! It's weird I've noticed that I'll go through spurts where I'm doing really really well for a while and then go through spurts where I'm just getting by. I don't feel that I'm doing anything different and it's not because there's not money in the club, there are girls that are getting VIP's, I've just haven't been finding the spending guys. I don't know what to do, it's really starting to frustrate me!!!! What can I do? What do you girls do?

the fact that it's frustrating you is probably hurting you. what i mean is, that kind of stuff comes through to the customer. take a break, a night off or get a massage or something. but i bet it's coming through to customers. try to put yourself into the mentality of, if i make money, cool. if not, i still love my job because it's fun. guaranteed THAT will come through to the customer and you will make money.

    Love it!

Yea, I've noticed that my mood affects my earnings so much. Some nights I am in a great mood--and I make money even if no one else is. Other nights I am in a bad mood and I don't make anything, even though most other girls do well. Unfortunately I am moody, and my earnings reflect that.

I watch a couple of other dancers at my club that are ALWAYS happy, friendly, and approach many customers. Some nights I know these girls are sick, stressed out, or just not feeling well--and they still look happy on the floor. How do they do it? I wish I knew. All I can say--is keep approaching customers, talk for 1-2 songs and ask for a dance over and over. Eventually one will say yes. Good luck!!

What you may have to look at is how many VIPS were sold on average in the club in January versus the same numbers for February.

I know you work in a club with a lot of dancers probably, more so than what the club volume really warrants. In other words the club probably has more dancers than customers willing and able to spend hundreds of dollars in VIP.

Plus, didn't you say the VIP staff was squeezing you for more tips recently, and that without girls greasing their palms heavily, they won't help a dancer get VIP's, and that a bouncers help in soliciting VIP's makes a big difference?

Well, an update, finally had a good night last night!!!! It was help from one of the waitresses. It's weird, I've noticed that on the nights that the majority of the girls in the club don't do well are the nights that I bank, on the nights that the majority of the girls do do well, I usually don't. It's really weird!!!!

When you're up, you're up. When you're down, you're down. You feel more confident when you're doing well and that affects your money positively. You feel less confident when you're not doing so well and that affects your money negatively. This is the short answer to why we often tend to have good nights and bad nights in strings.

I have worked in clubs where I often noticed I'd do well when most others didn't, and not so well when most other girls did. I think it kinda goes along with the above: If you feel like the most wanted girl in the club, you usually will be - and vice versa.

Fortunately I've finally gotten to a point where I can count on making at least reasonable money consistently. Mainly by just working my ass off, and not giving up the way most girls do. I like to think my hustle is quite a bit better now too So now when I've had a not-so-great night, it usually turns out that neither did most other girls and in fact I still did better than most.

Your hustle is good and you know alot about how to make money in this business. Just give yourself a bit more time to perfect your game. You're not even in it a year yet

Thanks for the pep talk Bridgette! I can't help it, I always put a lot of pressure on myself to be able to know how to do something immediatley. I guess I should reflect on how much I've learned since I've started and how much better I've gotten! I still have a hard time knowing how to work the room and my biggest obstacle is still being able to see a guy across the room and have a good feeling that he's got money to spend. Sometimes I'm right but many times I'm wrong and the ones I'm write about I've attributed towards "I got lucky".

It's hard to know which ones have money to spend and which ones don't. That's partly why I like to get them spending something right away. At least a dance, or if they offer a drink I might get one of the more expensive drinks and judge their reaction to that. I think it's not so much about predicting who has alot of money to spend from across the room, and more about finding which ones are more interested in you and getting them in the spending mode right away.

Good point about the expensive drink thing. What drink would you recommend? I did have a customer the other night complain about buying me a Voss, the $8 bottled water! When he said that outloud "$8 for a bottle of water, OMG" I knew right there to do the dance and not come back and waste my time. Shortly afterwards, they left!!! Haha!

well i would be pissed about an 8 bottle of water too! that is how much a top top shelf drink costs at my club
i dont think that example would be a good indicater of spending.

^Actually it's usually a great indicator. If the guy balks loudly about an $8 bottle of water he's probably not going to have the $500+ to sit in VIP getting airdances or talking. I find the guys who have that kind of money to spend aren't going to have a cow about an expensive drink - some might make a quiet smartass comment, but most of them won't complain about it.

If I'm trying to guage his spending I'll get a Grey Goose and 7 which isn't the most topshelf but it's up there. It's a $7 drink at my club. If he says something like "you should try Belvedere/Ketel One" (usually more expensive) then that's a good indicator he doesn't mind spending money. If he seems annoyed at the price I know I'm gonna get a dance or two and move along. If he just pays without reaction, it's a toss-up but usually a sign he'll at least be up for some dances and tipping.

I rarely drink the vodka. Mostly just sip it while I'm talking to the guy and if I don't get more than a couple dances off him I just take the drink with me and leave it elsewhere. If I'm with a spender and he keeps buying me the vodka (I will let him run up as much tab as he likes for the waitress) then I will either excuse myself occasionally to bathroom and dump most of it in the sink or get the waitress to bring me SUPER weak drinks. I don't mind drinking a little a work but VERY little. I'm not there to get drunk but I won't stop a guy from spending if he's offering - keep him in the spending mode, ya know?

Wow that is so werid! That is like what happened to me! I was bracing myself for January because I knew from past experience that it slows down but I did very well this past January.

This month has been a struggle and I find myself really stressed lately because of the money and hard ass hustle.

But you have to remind yourself that every night is different and sometimes you just hit your guy and other nights he isn't there. Sometimes it happens in spurts like that...I know it sux but that is our job I guess. Sometimes you don't click with a guy but another guy just might worship you and want to spend alot of money on you. So you kinda just have to force yourself to be there and come with a positive additude so you can be ready when he is there.

I hear you! That's me to a T also. No matter what I'm doing--school, training, singing, hustling at work, ANYTHING--I always expect that I should be able to just walk in and nail it perfectly immediately, and nothing less will do.

It's not a matter of being spoiled, as in "omg I expect everyone to just throw their money at me b/c I think I'm all that"...it's just that I'm hard on myself; it's more like "I should be good enough to pick this hustling thing up right away and be perfect at it; I should never have a 'bad night', or even an average night, because if I do, it means my skills are inadequate and I'm not good enough."

    Faulty mentality, I know. But...

About 60% - 70% of our communication is non-verbal: our body language. If we're feeling confident it comes through in our body language, if we like someone it comes through in our body language.

A dancer's mental attitude, whether she's aware of it or not, will colour her body language, and hence have a big influence on whether she's "hot" or "cold" as far as her effect on customers.

Look at things through a customers eyes - what do we want?

Apart from a look at the obvious, we also want to be entertained/have a good time, and that's where body language tends to come in.

If a dancer comes over to us and she won't meet our eyes and is too obviously making conversation for the regulation three minutes before asking the "wanna dance" question, the probability of a sale is low.

If a dancer comes over to us and shows some form of liking (real or professional) and gives the impression there is more to the transaction than $20, then the probability of a sale goes up.

Whether you are "hot" or "cold" can be significantly influenced by which of the above two impressions you leave on us customers - and a lot of that's down to your body language.

Thinking too much about "banking" can be counter productive, cos although it's very important to you, it's not important to us customers - our priorities are different.

Concentrate a little more on seeing things through a customers' eyes, and behaving in a way that meets our expectations, then you've got a better chance of meeting yours - i.e banking.

    Phil.

thats exactly how i think. am i just being a perfectionist/too hard on myself?

i danced for like 8 months 2yrs ago and started dancing again 2weeks before christmas and i feel like i am a total beginner!

in fact, there is a girl at work who is a good friend of mine and she is a total beginner and makes more money than i do!

mind you, i made more money wen i had just started than i do now. i think the naive ignorance of a newbie dancer can be good for you cos youre just having fun with it and its all glamorous and such.

anyway, i feel like im learning every night im there so even tho i didnt make much money, i learned what mistakes not to make, learned by watching other girls, etc so i feel that i at least did go home with something.

it just bums me wen i make the same mistake twice. i go home thinking, you frikkin know better lisa! ah well, i know one day soon i will get it all down and be making bank like the other girls

Goose and Belvedere are pretty much the same price and kettle one is barely top shelf.... try something like Roberto Cavalli or Jean Marc XO :-)
