    Default Wounded Soldiers

I get quite a few magazines every month, and recently I have been seeing a few stories on wounded/maimed soldiers. I've frequently been troubled by the number of deaths, but I didn't think about the injured. So, I googled and this is what I found.

It is so true that the media mainly focus on the deaths. According to the article for every one death 8 are wounded . Many will be never fully recover. Very sad indeed.

This is so depressing. I never look at the things about the soldiers being hurt because my hubby is deployed and I never want to see him in it.

Read the recent articles in Esquire magazine (the best mag period) Last month they did a great front page story on a young vet from our area who lost both legs and an arm, and still is kicking ass. great inspiration. This months article deals with the overwhelming surge of soldiers with PTSD, and how the government sweeps them under the rug. Some truely scary statistics:
In vietnam, only 20% of the soldiers were actually shot at
    In Iraq: 95% (24/7)

In vietnam, less than 5% of soldiers reported kills (average body count was 5)
In Iraq: 80% (with a high percent reporting kills over 100)

How can these guys not be fucked up when they come home?

Iraq is way worse than Vietnam. As Sen Harry Reid just had the balls to say the truth: "Iraq is the biggest foreign relations disaster in our countries history"

    Well said Scorpio.

All I can say is that any monies or services you donate to Wounded Soldiers funds are essential and appreciated. These soldiers have been through Hell on Earth. In my travels all over the US since 2003, all the stories I was told about soldiers returned from Iraq & Afghanistan included the words..."He/She is different now...sad, quiet...Not the same person."

I'm reading the article on their webiste right now. Thanks for posting about it. I've seen this kid in the news a lot when he first came back. The link I posted above is the foundation that is helping to build him a house. They are a good organization for those interested in helping wounded soldiers.

Iraq may not be the worst thing the US has ever done, but it's certainly the worst thing since we had mass media making it easy to call us on it.
