Is your friend even in Philly? I've been a Philly dancer for 5 years and I've never heard of that term. what does that mean? Cheerleaders is not really near Delilah's either, so I don't know how they could be in the same zone.

i have actually heard of the combat zone. but it's not where any of those clubs are. it is north philly... west philly... all ghetto areas. cheerleaders is in south philly, near the stadiums, and is a bikini bar. Risque is also in south philly, but on the waterfront. And Delilahs is in Northern Liberties, near the waterfront. the combat zone are places that i guarantee you none of the SWers have ever worked at... places that wouldnt even be listed on SCL like Daddy's Tavern or Pony Trail on 52nd St .. now THAT's the combat zone.
Love it!
that explains why I've never heard of it...I never go near it!
Philly has its rough parts, for sure. I know better than to go in them. But every city has nasty areas.

The Combat Zone is what the area in Boston where all the skanky clubs were used to be called, but this is like, fifteen years ago.

I worked in the combat zone in Boston about 7 years ago, never had any problems.
Is THAT the term for all of those small dive bars in the ghetto neighborhoods! I always wondered about those kinds of clubs. I don't think most of them even have a valid liquor license or entertainment license, and most of them don't seem to stay open for very long. If you look at , it has a list of nearly all the clubs in Philly(I used that site a few years ago when I was new to stripping and looking for clubs to audition at). Recently, they put all of the closed-down clubs in gray, and it looks like most of the ghetto clubs(Dutch Gardens or Club Moet in North Philly, Rum Keg in West Philly, Night on Broadway in Olney) have shut down for good.Originally Posted by Chrissy68
Just curious, what are those clubs like? I heard remotely that they are "whore houses". I heard that at the Rum Keg, lapdances were $5 and it was "anything goes." How can girls possibly make any money in a club like that?
To the OP: Philly has its share of tiny little ghetto clubs, but it also has a lot of big well-known, fairly upscale clubs. South Philly along Delaware Ave has a lot of good clubs...Risque, Penn's Port(a small bar w/o lapdances, casual atmosphere, but laid-back and friendly), Show-n-Tel(better than the ghetto North or West Philly clubs, but NOT recommended for a clean dancer), Crazy Horse Too, and Cheerleaders. Any of the bigger clubs are a safe bet.

This is for you Chrissy...this is ONE SWer who has worked (for one hour) in a West Philly dive from hell!!!! Hooo-weee, when I say handsiest, dirtiest spot you could think of, this was it! The guys were so cheap the girls bragged about having a $75 shift! The dances were out in the open, no booths, and I was the only one who refused o let anyone touch my boob. Needless to say I got no dances. I'd advise Show and Tel before I'd advise those spots!!!

oh reeeeaaalllly... what was it called? (i live in west philly) i love hearing about the dives here. my fave nickname for one so far is the one the locals call the West Philadelphia Ballet.
Love it!

The Zone in Boston's China town is long gone now, seven years ago it was really only two clubs. In it's heyday during the 70's and 80's the Combat Zone was a small two or three block area that had about 20 strip clubs, adult bookstores, peep shows and rampant prostitution and drug dealing...name your poison, it was all available.
Today there are two clubs located on the edge of where the Zone used to be but they are both pretty tame and, from what dancers tell me, not very good places to earn.
im embarrassed to say i started out at the rum keg. quick money during winter break. a friend of mine and her sister took me there. its a hole in the wall dive for sure. HOOD! they will let ANY girl in! all the guys are lookin for girls that "date" if u know what i mean. $5 lapdances. which means u could grind all night song after song til ur legs were sore, which i did cuz it was high mileage and only make a limited amount of money. it was atleast motivation for me to find a clean place where i KNEW i could make more! i never thought that i would take it this far! but what do i know...."flashing....lights....."and now Im a real dancer! sorry no tips for philly clubs. i can just say dont come to baltimore...
