    Default Nuvaring

So I've used the Nuvaring for a month now...love it in every way except: it makes sex hurt! My vag is so sensitive (or something) with the ring that it feels kind of burny during, and especially after.

No, it's not an STD, I got the full spectrum of tests done before I got the script for the ring. I googled it and the burning sensation seems to be relatively common...but what do I DO? Is there something I can do to prevent it? I tried taking the ring out during, no difference.

I had that problem the first time I used it. I stopped using it for a bit and then started again, and have had no problems. It may be that your body just needs to adjust to it. I have no idea why my body was ok with it the second time, but I love it now.

I started Nuvaring when the guy I was dating at the time was in Iraq, and I used it for 6 months with no problems. When he got back and I actually had sex, ouch! I could feel the ring during the sex, and it didn't matter if I took it out during sex either, it still hurt. I had to quit using it because it made sex suck so much.

I love my ring also. Never had any problems, but you can always take it out during sex.

I freakin' love it! The itchy thing didn't bother me and eventually went away. You might try using some extra lube. ID Millennium is the best.

You can take it out for up to 3 hours a day without reduced effects, you know.

I suggest you lube up real good, missy, since you seem to have a sensitive vag and the burning only coincides with the sex. If that doesn't help I don't know what to tell ya. I've used it for years without that effect, though.

I'm thinking about using it now too and had my tests all done just a few days ago.

I think it might be a good choice for me since my travel schedule is so nuts and I don't want to risk forgetting a pack of pills.

I have one question though: it looks kinda big in photos and I had a diaphragm when I was 17. Even though it was the smallest one and I was sure it was properly inserted, it was still uncomfortable. My doc told me I had a small cervix. Seriously.

I'm just worried about if it gets outright painful and then what?

I've thought about using a sponge for backup while it's starting to work too in combination.

It doesn't work or fit like a diaphragm (ie it goes in the vagina but doesn't have to fit the cervix) so you should be fine. If it gets painful, take it out.

A ladyfriend of mine had this problem as well. She couldn't tolerate it anymore, so she went with an IUD.

That thing was more hassle than it was worth. It always hurt the guy I was with and if you take it out to have sex put it back in 3hrs later or you'll get your period.

    ^and risk getting pregnant!

Sometimes I have an issue getting it all the way in and sitting properly (which is when he's complained about feeling it) but I've found a fix for that. Masturbation. Seriously. The kegel muscles totally get it up in there just right. I guess I could just do some kegel exercises but getting off is so much better.

I've had great experiences with the Nuvaring. I use it consecutively for 3 cycles, so I bleed only 4 times a year. Soooooooo nice! Oh yeah, and it contains a lower dose of estrogen, so it doesn't give me as many migraines as the Pill does.

I guess if you're having problems with it, but it's still tolerable, then maybe try it a little longer and see if you get used to it more? Otherwise ask a doc.

I started using it a few weeks ago and so far I love it. I don't even feel like I'm on birth control. None of the nausea, breast tenderness or mood swings that I've dealt with from when I was on the Pill years ago.

I was a little worried he'd feel it during sex, but that hasn't been a problem at all either.

I did have the "burny" feeling after the very first time we had sex when I was on it, but I just took it out and rinsed it in cool water, popped the ring back in and it hasn't been a problem since. I still take it out after sex and rinse it off though.

I'm thrilled so far this has been working so well for me; it looks like I might have found the perfect birth control, finally.

Just a thought, but Nuvarings can make your vagina more prone to yeast infections, since the hormones in them change your vaginal pH (as do all contraceptive hormones).

I had to quit using the nuvaring after a couple of months.

I hated how it kept getting caught on my man during sex and he would end up with the thing stuck on his cock...that hurt me and was wierd for after.

"oh hey, can I have my ring back now?"

We even tried taking it out when we wanted to get busy but it was a hassle...

I am on MIRENA now and I love it. I am PG proof for 5 years, I can't lose it, break it or forget it.

They put the implant in during what was like a routine pap smear and it has been fine ever since. Love it!
If everything you try is a sure thing, you aren't taking enough risks. If you never fail, you put a limit on the degree to which you can succeed. In short, the only way to win big is to risk losing

That was something I was concerned about too, since when I first went on the pill I got a yeast infection, and the same thing happened when I went on it again a few years later. Other than that, I'd never had one.

So far it seems that the dose of hormones is so low that it's not affecting me that way personally, though of course, that wouldn't be the case for every woman.

I have been using the NuvaRing for about 6 months now and I just found out....I'm pregnant!!! What??!! My boyfriend is pissed. He doesn't any kids at the moment. He has two and I have one. I work and go to school full time. By the time this baby would be born, assuming I just got pregnant, I would be at the end of my last term in school. I don't know what I would do about an externship. I guess I could always take a day off. I just don't want to have two kids with two daddies. From the sounds of it, he will take care of it but there is no future for us. Even though he's been telling me that he loves me and that he wants to marry me and once we're done with school we're gonna move in together. Now he talks like I should have never listened to you about that Ring bulls**t working...he thinks I lied to him or something. Says he shouldn't have listened to me and wore a condom. I don't even know what to think. Maybe its just the initial shock and he'll come around but I'm feeling scared that he won't. I don't want to be left all alone! With two babies!!! How am I going to do this and how did this stupid Ring not work??????

I'm sorry that's happened honey! Sometimes women just have funky hormones cycles that just don't want to be tamed by hormonal contraceptives, especially right away. No consolation, I know!

argh....I just tried nuvaring again (tried it once before with my ex, thought maybe it would magically be better this time around....um, no.) It gave me pretty much every nasty side effect in the world--horrible burning and pain during sex and for hours afterward, yeast infections, constantly feeling bloated and tired and sluggish...ew ew ew.

I'm so fed up. I've tried everyfuckingthing out there as far as BC, and nothing is right. Anything with hormones makes me feel like vampires are sucking the life out of me and makes me feel like i need to sleep 24/7 (oh and makes me feel like I just gained 47563874653 pounds overnight. Didn't, but it just feels like it, and I want to crawl out of my skin.) The copper IUD gave me 2-week-long periods and anemia...and condoms by themselves make me nervous, like I'm playing russian roulette wondering when one will break. I'm seriously about to make a consult appointment to get my tubes tied. I can't stand kids, I would rather shoot myself than be pregnant, I've *never* wanted to have children and never will, and I'm so fucking sick of either feeling paranoid about condoms or ill on various kinds of temporary BC...I really just would rather get sterilized and take care of it once and for all.
