    Default Transcription @ home

So I've been talking to a lady, she runs a bus. w/court reporters. She needs ppl to type up notes @ home, (they provide a transcriber machine) I will be getting a new 'puter w/Word Perf. She said I need to work @ least 4 hrs. a day, & you get paid by the page. She said you can make from $200.00 to $1500.00 a month depending on how much you work.

If you get paid by the page(which is piecework and may be actually illegal) how do they know how many hours you work?
People always ask me, did I ever learn anything when I was a stripper? Yeah, I did. One man plus two beers equals 20 dollars.

This is something I would be interested in-I'm taking a break from dancing right now. Do you have any more information?

You're paid by the page, not the amt. of hrs. worked.
BH, she ran an ad in my local paper. She runs a service for court reporting. It's in IL, if you're interested PM me & I'll give you her #.

It's def worth looking into. I know of a lawfirm that does something similar. They set up a lot of people to work from home and you'd get paid by the page. I don't recall what the rate was ....something that sounded small until you think about the big picture. In the case of the lawfirm, they's usually send a PDF of written docs, you'd type them and email them back.

I'm confused...then why did she say you had to work at least 4 hrs?

Not that I can speak for whirlerz, but the lady was probably estimating it an average person's typing speed.

i.e. If you type x amount of pages in 4 hours, you could make about $x. You know, just to put some kind of $/hr figure on it.

She said you need to type @ least 50 wpm. She also hires ppl to tape record @ various hearings throughout Chicago & suburbs, so I might have gotten the 4 hr. thing from that. She requires you to come & take a basic English test, & another test. I'm not sure but I think you have to pick up/drop off work. I didn't get these particulars right away, I have to get newer 'puter & software in the next week or so.

Keep us posted. I'm in NJ, but I'd love to know that there's some kind of "work at home" that's not a scam

Yes, it's possible to work at home. Not a lot of opportunities for it, that I know of. The only ones I know of being: phone sex, your own business, transcription.
I talked to another lady yesterday at that company. You're given the use of the transcriber, must have Word Perf. 5.1 or above. They pay .50 per page, expect you to type a minimum of 35 pages per day. You have to do a sample job to make sure you have the apptitude/requirements for it. You do have to pick/up drop off work sometimes. I knew a lady years ago that did transcription for doctors, but I don't know how that works. That's about all I know right now.

    this kind of thing, perhaps:

    http://www.pacificsolutions.com.au/

they seem to be in US, UK and Australia, and it looks to be all done via high-speed internet so you don't have to pick up/drop off or print anything.

some of them seem scammy, just to get you to do a $2000 course in transcribing...

don't know about the rep of the one above.

I didn't yet check the above link, but I wouldn't recommend paying anything. Again, I don't have knowledge of it, but I'd be wary of paying someone upfront to work right off the bat. The place I'm going to be working for doesn't charge you to work. Except, of course, I need to upgrade 'puter/get software. But, that benefits me, & I'd be doing that anyway..
