    Default ex-gay therapy

I read on article on People about it. Remember the married preacher who was always preaching against gays and got caught having an affair with a male prostitute? I believe his name was Ted Haggard. I can't find the damn magazine now. Anyway, it said that after 3 weeks of intense "therapy", he is recovered, cured of his gayness or whatever. What are your opinions on this ex-gay therapy? Do you really think people can be "cured" from being gay? I've always believed people are born gay, so what is there to cure?

No, this isn't a "cure." They confine the gay patients and subject them to relentless brainwashing, shaming, and guilt; they forbid them to engage in certain activities, and ban them from parts of town where gay people are known to congregate, and once they near the end of the "treatment" they are encouraged to enter into a heterosexual relationship and/or marriage. They're still gay though, they're just gay and in denial. There's a high rate of suicide and "relapse" (resumed homosexuality, usually in secret) among the people who go through these programs. It's really sick that people do this to themselves, even sicker that people force their own gay children into it.

Gay isn't a disease, so I don't think it can be 'cured'.

I do suppose with serious conditioning and behavioural training, a person can be taught to go against their natural feelings and impluses and 'become' heterosexual.

I wonder what that 'therapy' actually involves though. Ugh, I hate to think.

But...yeah....gayness, or bi- ness, isn't a mental illness....it's just a way of life. It can't be cured. It can be suppressed, but with very depressing results I'd assume.

That's so sad that people still think that being gay/bi/ anything other than straight is a disease. It's not a disease, there are just people that are attracted to the same sex.

I rented that movie for my birthday party in 8th grade. We only watched about 30 minutes of it because it was a bit much. I'll have to go rent it now so I can see the whole thing!

Fuck, if that's true, cure me of being straight!! Because men suck and the women around here are hot hot hot!!

Mmm, make me 100% gay please. And yes, I'd like a shake with that.

Ted Haggard has to say he's "cured" of his "sinful ways." He was one of the most well known and influential hypocrites, ahem, I mean evangelicals in America. He's not cured of course, but I'm sure he will use the idea to continue to spread his ideas of hate and intolerance.
