Default IPL - Intense Pulsed Light Treatments

I've scheduled an appointment for my first installment of IPL on March 6th. I am so excited to treat a scar (burn) on my arm. I met with the doctor yesterday and he said because the scar is relatively fresh. Even if it just lightens it a bit I'll be more than happy.

Has anyone done it before (for scars, hair removal, freckles, tattoos)?

I'll be sure to post befores and afters.

I would love to see the results of this.

I have a keloid scar due to surgey which has know flattened (thank goodness) but it is dark and I would like it lightened.

Did he give you any clue as to how many sessions you will need?

    Btw good luck!

They usually request you come in for 4 treatments. But I guess it just depends how it goes.

Yeah, it's in Tucson. I'm too lazy to drive any where else anymore! (Although I think I might schedule a BA consult in Phoenix .)

The office also has a YAG laser which I hear is better for things like hair and vein removal.

It's at the Eye Institute, actually. They do ophthamology and some minor cosmetic procedures. (Which is why I have to find another doctor for a BA.)

I have had laser hair removal in Tucson. I have already had 2 treatments. Is laser hair removal the same?

Yeah, IPL can also be used for hair removal, just at different light frequencies than undoing pigmentation. Although most IPL hair treatments are for reduction, not total removal.

Has it worked well for you so far?

I am having IPL done at the moment to treat pigmentation on my face.
I have had 2 full face treatments and now I have 2 half face treatments left.
At first it darkens the freckles before they disappear so I freaked a bit when I first saw my freckles get darker.
It has already cleared up my broken capiliaries on my nose and some redness I had on my face.

I find it quite painful. After each pulse the doctor puts ice on the spot just treated to cool it as the skin gets quite hot.

The redness after wards went away within about an hour though.

Wow, does this work on older scars? I have a scar on the inside of my thigh (fell on someone's martini glass during Winter Music Confrence in Miami one year) that looks terrible, but it is about 3 years old....

Im not sure if IPL would be the best type of laser for a scar on the body. Its a more gentle laser which is why it's so good for the face.

^^Me too. I have been curious about laser bikini and armpit hair removal for a while. But I'm afraid of it fucking me up, and I'm also under the impression that you have to let the hair grow between sessions? I couldn't possibly do that...
Can yall shed some light on this?

you can shave up to a couple of days before getting it done. i am about to leave the house for my second appointment and already there is a HUGE difference (getting my bikini line done btw)
you can shave or use nair or whatever throughout the time that it takes to do all the treatments, and after one session my hair is much more sparse, much finer, so i am already getting less of a shaving rash, less irritated.

You have to wait for it to start growing again, before you can go back in for another treatment. The closer you shave, the better result you're going to get.

it's not like waxing where it needs something to "hold on to". That's why I never got into the idea of waxing.

The laser works by seeking out the dark pigment (the hair) versus the light pigment (your skin), so the darker the hair and the lighter the skin, the better the results. I'm fair-skinned with dark pubes, so it's working great! You can keep shaving like you normally would, but even after one treatment, I see a big difference. I've got a few stray hairs, but I'm only shaving them like every 3-4 days. And now that I see it works for getting rid of BA scars, I'm even more excited (I have an armpit scar too.)

I'm getting my armpits and "brazilian" bikini done. I want to add legs, but those are really expensive and my legs aren't a huge issue. The cost for arms and brazilian for 6 sessions was $1170 with all the discounts they were willing to offer.

I wonder if this would work for getting rid of acne scars? I would like to get it done if it could help that!

Ok, mayvbe this is a dumb question, but ...is it permanent Like does the hair stop growing at the roots? Or does it just make the hair sparser, or lighter, or the need to shave less often?

It's "permanent hair reduction" and were careful not to use the words "permanent removal."

They told me I'd need touch ups every year, but for the most part, it's gone for good.
