Default Should I be mad or humble?

I have a bit of a dilemma.. This morning at 8:00 am (actually it started around 7) my upstairs neighbors were stomping around in heels (very loud and woke me up), this happens often, but it seemed to go on forever today.
I went upstairs asking them to please stop since I went to bed at 5 after getting off of work at 3:30 and I wouldn't have said antthing but I have to work again tonight. Instead of saying sorry the girl I spoke to told me she was leaving soon anyway and that she never complained when I made noise at 5 am.. Apologizing myself, I told her to come anytime to let me know about any noise violation since I had no idea what she could hear up there and accepted that she didn't know what I could hear. She ignored my apology and pretty much just rolled her eyes and walked away.
Now, my question is, should I feel bad that I made all this noise in the past and write a note of apology. Or should I be a bit pissed that instead of telling me this, she was passive aggressive and decided to take it out on me only when I complained about her heels?
I have only lived in this APT for less than 4 months, but in this time I have had the washer and dryer fixed (dryer twice), put a note to keep the front door unpropped (secure building), had a container for "junk mail" placed by the mailboxes, and ALWAYS pick up after my dogs. She knows all this since I thought we had a good neighbor thing going. I have always told her that I appreciate her being so quiet and to let me know if I am not.
I don't know, I couldn't go back to sleep after the talk and now am torn between angry and mild embarrassment..
    What would anyone else do?
Please don't lick me, it tickles..

Don't write a note, it'll just make this small incident into a bigger one. The point has already been made. I'd shake it off.

I'd leave it alone. I mean you did try to be a good neighbour about things. She just seems like a bitch.

I'd leave it alone. She made her complaint and you made yours.

thanks guys, my boy friend pretty much said the same thing. It's not like we hang out with her or anything so he said to let it go. I fully understand her being upset (I prob was a little loud a few times), but she could have said something, right?
anyway, I am shaking it off and moving on. There are way cooler neighbors in the building (ones that actually smile) heh

She's probably jealous of you. Plus if she has any inkling of an idea youre a stripper she may be prejudiced.
I can't have people walking around on my head while I sleep. I had a really bad neighbor years ago who I found out after I moved in ran a therapy business out of her home. Cool and all, but it was cathartic therapy where they would yell and scream and hit stuff and make noise. I went up there steamed more than once. I had a differtn job, but still had to sleep days sometimes. It got soo bad that for the longest time after moving if something woke me up I would just get MAD and not be able to sleep.
That resulted in benadryl and earplugs(macs silicone are best-except they can pull the hair out).
Now I am on the 3rd floor and happy.
Good luck. She sound like a real winner.

I'd go up there and kick her ass if I was you!!!!

Not really I'm just playin! I have never lived in an appartment for that reason. I would just try to be more quiet in the morning when you get home. If she does the same, problem solved. If not then go up there and kick her ass!!!

If she was *really* upset about your being noisy at 5am, she would have gotten her ass outta bed and let you know, just like you got outta bed to let her know she was being loud. By making a complaint in response to your complaint, she was just being immature. Shake it off, though...no need to play these silly games with your neighbor.

    lol!!!!
I'm going to go by the jealous issue, just to make myself feel better. You can be sure that I will be up there if she wakes me again though... the response I received was never one I would have given. I have had neighbors complain in the past (I HATE thin walls) and have done my best to remedy it from moving the TV (we figured out it was louder in his apartment than the volume I had it set to) to making sure my dogs don't have rawhides after nine since I knew there were students downstairs.
I'll definitely be quieter, honestly I didn't know what could be heard, but heels echo in EVERY apartment. ugh, the noise just down the stairs is irritating (I go barefoot personally)
well all you guys rock! I feel tons better and boy was I mad... I try my hardest to be polite and get a bit irritated when I am not treated the same, but you can't please everyone.. Grr..
And yes, I think she knows I dance, I'm not completely sure, but I think it might have gotten out. heh

No no no don't write any note!! I agree with the person who said that writing a note will make the issue into a bigger issue. The note thing sounds like something that I woulda done in that situation a few years ago(actually, I think I DID do that with a somewhat similar situation about 4yrs ago!). All it'll do is: cause the neighbor to remember the situation for longer, perhaps think you're being sarcastic/rubbing it in(even though you're not), or think that you are humble in a way that = spineless. If the girl is a bitch, then she will probably use your humbleness to walk all over you.

So yeah, I'd say to just forget about the situation. If you see her in the hallway or in front of the building, I'd just greet her with a "hi" and polite smile as you'd greet anyone...don't snub her and don't go outta the way to kiss her ass. If she snubs you back(you said she doesn't smile), then perhaps you should even cut out the polite smile and "hi," and simply ignore her back. That's my opinion.

i hate noisy neighbours with a passion. i have a fantasia hippo in heels next door to me. what kind of dumb ass doesn't work out that polished wooden floors = take your fucking shoes off bitch!!!

now, while i don't have an issue with children, i do have an issue with them running up and down on said floor screaming constantly - and ms fantasia stomping up the stairs after him... inner city apartment? kids? wtf. cruel and unusual punishment if you ask me

    *hyperventilates* i digress

the people below fantasia have complained to management and so have we. one more and she gets booted out.

do you have a manager/body corporate who can make these decisions. write to THEM if you have to write to anyone, then they have to do something about it.

nb: i'll be moving to a house long before baby naut gets to annoy everyone

I too used to live in a downstairs apt. One day after calling my leasing office to make a complaint about how loud they were blasting their stereo, they preceded to stomp on their floors (MY ceiling) because they had to turn it down.

I now live upstairs. Don't you just love apartment living?

This exact thing happened to me once with the girls who live below me...well they weren't walking around in heels, but they were playing very loud obnoxious music at 3am (it was a Tuesday and I had an exam the next day). I was so pissed-my bed was shaking from the bass. So I stomped the floor so they would turn it down and then I heard them shout "FUCK! YOU!". !!

So I marched downstairs in my pyjamas, listened to them debate opening the door to talk to me. I asked them to turn it down, that my bedroom was right above, etc...they were all "You make noise all the damn time at night!". I said I work late shifts sometimes, and sorry, I'd put down rugs and try to be quieter when I came home. But whatever, I know I'm never THAT loud.

I also felt a little bad, but you know what? I've never had an issue with them and the music after the confrontation. They were soooo bitchy to me too. But it made them back down, so hopefully the bitch in your building will think twice in future as well. They're less likely to push your buttons when they know you'll complain.

This story is a great example of why I am so glad I don't live in an apartment anymore.

At the last apartment building I lived in before buying a home I was happily going along my way when a new chick moved in upstairs. Next thing I know I am being awakened every weekend morning around sunrise to loud techno beats and people loudly going in and out of her deck. It was pretty obvious that she went to raves every weekend and had house parties afterward.

Finally after a few weekends I went up there and asked her to please be more quiet at least until after 8 or 9 am. She was such a bitch about it. I had then mentioned that anyone in the building could hear her and her friends discussing out on the deck how hard or good their "roll" was on a regular basis and she should really be more careful. The house parties ended after that day.

Oh my GOD do we live in the same building??

    LOL!

I have a total cunt neighbor that is EXACTLY like that.

    DO NOT APOLOGIZE TO HER!

She's obviously a bitch, and passive agressive too.

My neighbors ( I live in a 4-family) recently called the cops on me while I was having a party. I obviously knew who did it, because the other two sets of neighbors were over at my house for the party!! When the cops got there, they started knocking on her door and she refused to answer (I can only imagine she didn't want me to know she was the culprit) The party was out on the porch, so all she would have had to do was to step outside and holler up to me to turn down the music, and I gladly would have. I wrote her a note about it, and she sent me a nasty note back about how some people have to go to work in the morning... let me add that the time of this incident was 10pm. OOOO, past her bedtime apparently.

Ok, my question is, you live downstairs from her right? If so, how in the hell can she hear you making any noise if you live beneath her?

Keep in mind - 8.00 AM is when MOST people are getting up to go to work. 5.00 AM is when most people are soundly sleeping. So essentially, yeah - we are under a greater duty to be a bit quiet at 4.00 and 5.00 AM than other people are between 8.00 and 12.00 (our prime sleeping hours). That said - was she doing something, like, on purpose? Like making more noise than is necessary to her morning convenience (like she might not want to tiptoe to the bathroom, but she doesn't have to play basketball on the way either). If it becomes a recurring problem, honestly, the best thing to do to resolve the conflict is make nice, make friends and try to agree to adjust your behaviour mutually (even if you won't actually be doing anything - people don't like to be unilaterally told to change) because you can't do anything to stop her from walking around in the morning.

I think she only said that you make too much noise because she was feeling like shit about you coming to her. She was being very immature in that case.

I doubt it was intentional since it happens so often, both she and her rommate just walk VERY heavy in their heels. This was a time where I just couldn't block it out and since it went on for over an hour I kind of snapped.
I hope it won't become an issue because I like my sleep, heh.. And I am definitely making sure I don't do anything to add to the problem.

I'm sort of figuring that. I just moved into a bit of a snooty neighborhood so I really shouldn't be surprised by her attitude (some people give me a look when I hold the door open for them.)
I guess I just wasn't expecting such a rude response, it's a hell of an awakening!
