    rhinoplasty question

Has anyone here had rhinoplasty (nose job)?

It's something that I have always wanted to do and now that I almost have the amount saved for it I am getting nervous. I don't want to end up looking worse or end up with a nose that looks very obviously like I have had a nose job.

For those of you who have had it:

    - would u do it again if given the option?

    - did you have the type of new nose in mind that you wanted and were u happy with the end result, was it what u asked for?

    - do u think it has dramatically altered your appearance and how u feel about yourself?

    thanks

What don't you like about your nose? Ask them to fix that. I don't like the fact
I have broken mine a couple times Snowboarding, but I wont get it corrected
until I give up Snowboarding and I don't see that happening anytime soon

BTW how much does it cost to have your nose done?

It's long and the tip is too wide. I have always felt self conscious about it.
It doesn't look too bad from the front but if I catch a glimpse of my side profile I feel depressed.

Here in Melbourne Australia it costs approx AU$5-7K. It depends on what you need done. It is more expensive if you need the bone broken as opposed to if you just need some cartiledge removed.

I saw a girl in recovery after a nose job. It looks like it hurts more than a boob job
due to blood running down your throat, the swelling and the black eyes. I wonder
what the recovery time is on a simple little file down job. I should ask my surgeon
the next time I have a boob check up. I know here it's 900 usd just to put you
under but 5k to 7k for a nose job.. that seems a little steep, do you have a site
to see the before and after, I like to check other surgeons work.

Yeh I have been checking out before and after pics I will also check out a few different surgeons to see examples of their work.

I have private health insurance so I won't pay any hospital fee which will bring down the cost a bit. I think its about the same amount for the anaesthetic here. I hate going under, its so scary. Apparently you can have rhinoplasty and just be sedated rather than go under, I dunno tho if I want to be awake for it.

Yeah it's pretty expensive but I'd rather pay more for a good surgeon coz u know being in the middle of my face, if it gets fucked up I'll be in trouble. I heard on the radio some ad for a place you can go get cheap nose jobs at and it's trainee surgeons doing it! That is just simply crazy, I would never be a guinea pig.

I had a rhinoplasty done in July of 06. My nose had a hump in it and I got it filed down and the tip refined. I'm sorry I don't have any before/after pictures, but the difference in my entire face is amazing. The doctor altered my nose so it went well with the rest of my features; he didn't just give me a cookie cutter pretty nose, even though I feel it's perfect.

I took two weeks off of work (not a dancing job, just regular) and think that was a good amount of time. For the first day after the surgery, the biggest problem I had was nausea from the anasthesia. I had a lot of swelling, but no pain and surprisingly, no bruises. I spent a lot of time sitting in a big comfy chair with a cold gel mask on my face. Recovery was so easy! As of now, the swelling is pretty much gone but my nose is still very sensitive to being touched. Like, I accidentally kneed myself in the face (really gently, like just a tap) and it was like shockwaves going through my face. But I would do it again in an instant because my self-esteem has gone up so much. I feel so much better and tons more confident in the way I look. I say if you find a great doctor, go for it. It'll be money well spent

Thanks for that info. I can't wait to do it. I am just doing some research to find a surgeon right now. I am looking for one that is registered with the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons. I know not to go for someone who is just a cosmetic surgeon as they don't have the same level of training as a plastic surgeon.

I had mine done about 6 yrs ago. It was about 5k then. I liked the result. It changed my whole look. I had a bump from being broken-ALOT, and I had the tip refined. I would definately do it again if I needed to. I just had my boobs done, and I can honestly say that neither surgery was that bad. I took a week off from my then regular job, but even if I was dancing then, I still could have went back aftera week if I wanted to. Piece-a-cake!

^^^^ how long did you find that it took for all the swelling to leave?
I heard it takes a while to see the nose you will end up with coz of swelling?
Im glad to hear the pain wasn't too much.

i dont know, my nose is reasonable straight (in the bone) its more just the tip of my nose thats retarded, so it *should* just be a cartilage job. and maybe a slight shave?

i have my last consultation on wednesday with the ps so ill know definatly what im in for then. thats when they do the computerised images too -FUN!

fingers crossed they can bring my surgery forward too!!

Okay now I feel better, I had my boobs done now I want my nose done.
I think it will be a quit smoking present to myself. If I quit, I'll use the
money I paid for smokes with to buy the nose I want 6 years ago
is probably the last time I checked out the price. he he he My
husband says he likes my nose to leave it alone but he said that
about my boobs too, I don't believe him anymore.

    Absolutely!

I had trouble with figuring what I wanted but what I found when I went to the doctor is he just knew what to do. He took a pic of me and drew on it and said, "I see this, this, and this," and he was right!

    - do u think it has dramatically altered your appearance and how u feel about yourself?

Definitely! I used to HATE my nose and now it's just a nose. It fits my face now. However, a lot of other people didn't really notice much after I had it done. I guess it stood out more to me than anyone else.

You have to go by word of mouth and see what other girls look like, not just the ones in the book/website. You know what the "look" is, a thinned out, slightly upturned nose, it doesn't look good on everybody (i.e. Tori Spelling).

Hell yeah, my old nose was horrible, huge with a huge bump.

My doc didn't take requests with me, he made my nose most appropriate for my face. It was obviously too large.

It has been ten years, bear in mind. But yes, I was teased about my nose terribly when I was a kid. Now I like it. It did grow a little because I was quite young when I had it done (only I can tell), but it looks totally natural which is what i wanted.

Having your nose broken is not really necessary these days. Most docs just shave. I had a HUGE nose and my doc shaved. My mom had her nose broken when she was young and had it done, with the racoon eyes and everything.

I had swelling, it took about a year before my nose "settled", but three months for the majority to go down. The first two weeks I had a bandage and didn't leave my house. After that, it would hurt like hell if I hit it changing clothes or something for several months after. But it is worth while.
