    Default Wrist and arm pain...

Alright I know this isn't doctorweb - but has this ever happened to anyone else? I just got a horrible shooting pain up and down my wrist and forearm area, that felt kind of like a charlie horse. It caused my fingers to curl up kinda on their own and I couldn't move them for about 30 seconds. I've been having slight wrist pain in both hands and have a knot on the right side, which is the side that this shooting pain happened in.

is the pain on the underside?
do you get it when you have been feverishly typing away while leaning your wrists on the desk or bottom of the keyboard?
    where is the knot?

might not be carpal tunnel yet, but you could be on your way.

you need to do little exercises for your hands and wrists. i had this shit when i used to be a legal secretary in the bad old days, and man, it was hell.

you might have to *gasp* have a break from typing... or type with the pooka-nose.

Carpal tunnel, aka too much stripperwebbin'.

There are wrist bands and padded mousepads which are supposed to help with this. The obvious thing to do is to stay off the computer for a while, but yeah right!

Sounds more like a muscle spasm in your forearm.

Lightbulb Re: Wrist and arm pain...

    Try this PookaShell:

    1) Arm stretched out in front of you, palm down (If it is your right hand that hurts, outstretch your right hand).

    2) Place fingertips of opposite hand on fingertips of outstretched hand, palm down (Your left palm should be hovering above the top of your right hand)-

-Pinky on left hand should be aligned with your right forefinger,
-Left ring finger to right middle finger,
-Left middle finger to right ring finger &
    -Left forefinger to right pinky.

    3) With the left hand fingers, GENTLY pull fingers on right hand BACK and TOWARDS you (You'll know you are doing it right because you will feel a long stretch, along with relief in your right forearm).

    4) Hold for 5 seconds.

    5) Alternate hands.

You could do like 3 "sets" of these with 3 "reps", since it is an exercise, although if you do too much you could potentially strain yourself. So take it easy and be gentle. You could always gradually work up to increase your strength.

Think of it like physical therapy; It won't "snap back into place" immediately, since the issue is muscle / ligament / tendon and not bone or socket related, and it took time to present, so it will take time to correct; however, if you do these throughout your computer use, about every half-hour, or when you feel the cramping, you should be able to "train" your forearm using muscle memory so that it doesn't cramp as much.

P.S. Spasmic cramping may also be an indication of possible potassium / electrolyte imbalance, and many people tend to unknowingly dehydrate themselves during winter months.

Are you sure you are well hydrated and eating your bananas Pooka ?

    Hope this helps .

Pooka- could be carpal tunnel. Could also be tendonitis or it might be a pinched nerve in your neck. The nerve roots controlling your arms and hands are in your neck. Go to a physiatrist- M.D. specializing in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and get checked out.
