Default Can I please vent?!? I LOVE my car

This is probably going to sound ridiculous, but I am pissed off at my boyfriend because he started picking on my car after a conversation we had about high insurance.
What makes me mad is that he won't relent. He called it ugly, a pos, and said the only thing it needs is a wrecking ball.
Now I know people are entitled to their own opinions, but I have had my car since 99'. It has taken me on countless trips across the states and has never broken down......NOT ONCE!!
I just rolled 300,000 late last year. It is a 94' Honda Civic. It still has a nice paint job and 95% of it's original parts. It runs like a dream and it has alot of get up and go (5 speed:p) To me, it still looks new!
I am extremely irate about my car being picked on. Granted, this man has a habit of "picking", but dammit man, this car is like a member of my family. It's the only thing I've been able to rely on through most of my 20's AND I'm putting $2000 into it because I actually think it deserves it, lmao!
Is anybody else on here "in love" with their cars?
Tell me I'm not the only one.
I can afford a new "pretty" car, but I don't want one (or the payments:p)

tell him insulting the car is just like insulting you. if he cares for your feelings he'll stop.

Around here a Civic in the conditioned you described would sell for around $2500 or so in a private transaction. So it would seem that investing $2000 might not make practical sense. But as you pointed out you really like the car and replacing it with a significantly newer model would cost many thousands more. Sounds like your bf is being "practical" and not taking into consideration your emotional attachment to the vehicle.

Yah, I wouldn't be so ticked, but I told him not to pick on my car because it hurts my feelings.....and he kept doing it. I also told him a few days ago that putting that $$ into the car was partly because of my emotional attachment. It has a slow oil leak and I put off fixing several things that didn't prevent it from running. Now I can afford it to fix them and have already bought the parts. I don't know, I trust his judgement and we discussed it going into the shop yesterday.....but today he decides to throw insults at the car and I'm confused.
    Geez....I know I sound ridiculous:p

I am also deeply in love with my car, even though she's not as pretty as she was 50,000 miles ago (she's a 2003 Hyundai). Life in Los Angeles has not been kind to her; she's been dented and scraped in one place, the corners of the back bumper are marked from minor scrapes, and just last week she was badly rear-ended so the bumper is damaged pretty badly. But she's still kicking and I love her. We've been through a lot in the past three and a half years; I've had her since she had only 5 miles on her, and I hope to keep driving this car for many years to come. If some dickhead was insulting my car, I'd tell him he could go stick his head in the oven!

Fuck that! I deeply loved my car that just died this past December; she had 240K miles and was a very loyal auto, and I was attached to her beyond all reason (you will notice she had a gender and a name).

Your BF is either dense (he really doesn't get how much it bugs you) or a dick (he totally gets how much it bugs you and he likes it). Which with the "picking" habit sounds about right. I would leave the room the next time it starts.

I loved my Camaro to death (almost literally, man, those were some good times) but it ultimately ate up too much money in parts & inflated insurance rates.

I admire the heck out of import vehicles but I was raised in redneck country, so I buy Chevrolets. LOL

I have a 2002 Mitsubishi eclipse convertible with 107,000 miles on it. I love my car. My bf tries to tell me I can trade it in for a new pretty ecplise, but I wont do it i love my car. It is perfect. He had a Civic that he finally sold when it had over 200,000 miles on it, and he bought a new Civic, They last forever. he wont buy anything else.

    Yes ma'am, me too!

A couple of years ago I was T-boned by some nitwit running a red light; the impact was hard enough to spin us in two 360's across the intersection. It was obvious that the car would be totalled... however, it turns out that the newer Hyundais are built with no frame, so there wasn't one to damage. The repairs came to about $3500 (paid for by nitwit's insurance company, of course) and she was as good as new in about a month. I still can't believe she survived that impact but she's still going strong! Man, I love that car.

Hyzenthfly, it doesn't sound like your car is a POS. I can understand your attachment. I feel the same way about my pick-up truck. It's a 2002 Dodge Dakota Sport, and I can't imagine parting with it! My firstcar that I bought was a Honda Accord and it ran awsome. sure it wasn't the prettiest, but I loved it....until some jackass smashed into it while it was parked! Wrote it off! I was crushed, but I know how you feel. Since bf is putting down your wheels so bad, just curious to know what HE has to drive?

    I LOVE IT!!

Sinder- He has a pretty nice ride. Some sort of fast Dodge vehicle, and he has a Hayabusa (sp?) bike.

We had another discussion about it today. He promises not to pick on it anymore. He said he just thinks of it as "a car", but if it hurts my feelings he won't do it anymore. I don't think the D car is made of gold or anything. I just don't like it called ugly or ugly names.
Eh, I don't know if I can hang on too long if this damn picking can't be genuinely toned down. I can't stand people that do that. I love a joke and sarcasm as much as anybody, but I don't like jokes at other's expense on a regular basis.
