Will I survive in this industry?

Ok, I was just wondering. Do I at least have the body and looks to make it in the dancing world? I really want honest feedback. When I went to work the other day I had a few customers tell me that I was not the type they like. So please tell me what you think.

You are gorgeous. I have a similar look & I have had a great time as a dancer. I think guys who say things like that brought only enough money for a couple dances from their "type" dancer & they want an easy way to make you leave.

girl, you need way more than just body and looks to survive in the business. You'll need sales skills, tenacity, and the ability to take rejection. ALL of us hear "you're not my type" at some point or another.

You look good. Yo have a cute face. How you are doing your makeup, how you are dressing, acting, attitude, how you apporach people, carry yourself, sales skills....these are all just as important. There is soo much mroe to being a dancer than just looking good. Its the whole package. It also depends on the clientele on a particular night. Most of the time, I wear a gown at work. But sometimes, Im just dressed to nicely for the crowd, and they perfer something that shows a little more, so I wear a short cute dress or a 2 piece instead. You gotta get a feel for your clientele and what they want.

You also have to get a feel for what a particualr customer likes in a girl. Some like shy, quiet girls. Some guys like loud, rowdy girls. Some guys like ditzy blondes, but other guys like girls who can carry an intelligent conversation.
You have to get a feel for what they want, and act that way. Being a dancer is being an actress anyway. You are always pretending to be interested in them, and pretending like they are the greatest thing you ever met.

ok. I think I need A LOT of help on my sales skills. So far at work I've been the quiet shy type. I guess I just need to do as you said and find out what the customers like most.

People have all kinds of preferences. There will be people who think you are a goddess, and there will be people who don't. It's like that in real life, and I'd imagine that is reflected in dancing, too.

You have a cute face. I can't see your body that well because those attached images don't allow for closeups.

My personal observations (sorry if this offends anyone but I think it needs to be said):

it's really tough for black women in this business. This is written about all over SW and I've seen it myself. I've often hear black girls complaining that there are too many black girls working because the pool of money is just smaller for them. There are lots of customers that will reject you because you are black and not even give you a chance. Some don't care as long as you are pretty and nice, but you will have to sell yourself, so sharp sales skills are essential. There aren't that many customers that prefer black girls. And those that do prefer black girls seem to pick the Beyonce type (light-skinned, toned body, great weave, perfect nails, perfect makeup, etc.)

You are pretty, but you are going to be in a shark pool, especially if you work at an upscale club. There will be at least one Beyonce type girl there and she'll probably bank on the number guys who prefer (or will admit to liking) black girls. You will have to compete against her and it's going to be tough because it'll look effortless for her while you bust your ass to make just a fraction of what she makes. Can you handle that?

You will probably be better off working at a more relaxed, working-class (maybe predominantly black if they have that in your area) club, but the earning potential might not be as high and you might have to put up with some real skankiness. If you can survive that, you can survive this business.

I think the late Jim Morison said it best when he said,
"No one here gets out alive".

But, good luck. You're an attractive woman.

    I wish you well.
"He will come in one of the pre-chosen forms. During the rectification of the Vuldrini, the traveler came as a large and moving Torg! Then, during the third reconciliation of the last of the McKetrick supplicants, they chose a new form for him: that of a giant Slor! Many Shuvs and Zuuls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of the Slor that day, I can tell you!"

I had a few patrons (they are ONLY customers if they tip the dancer(s) and/or purchase lap dances - buying drinks and taking up space inside the club does NOT make someone a customer it only makes them a patron) last night who (basically) dissed me about my breast size.

Naturally in my head (as I wouldn't allowed to say it out loud in this club) I was thinking ........ "My breasts may be small yet your dick is smaller and so is your brain!"

Forget what they or anyone else thinks in the end. It is what YOU think of YOURSELF that matters and always matters.

no matter what, and i say this for ALL strippers.. have a back up plan. because you never know what can or will happen. when i broke my foot i injured my income, couldn't work for 3 and a half months, and i was LUCKY i had a stash to live off of for that long, but i was suffering big time. i was glad i was able to freelance layout and design on the side because without that, i would have had nothing to live off of during the last month.

you ask a question that may bring negative results, and i think it's not a surface question. your question is not about looks, not about how thin you are. sure, you cannot be a whale, but if you are toned, you are fine. it's abotu sales, and about personality, about all of the things other girls mentioned.

but have a backup plan. no matter what, know what you can and will do when you are not able to dance or are done with it, or are not seeing the money you want/need to see.

    Love it!

I think Emily made some valid points but there are always exceptions. At my first club one of the top earners was a dark-skinned black girl, she just rocked her stuff.
People rarely guess what race I am ("ExoticBarbieDancer"), & I have had rejections too..even people telling me to lie about my origins...It sucks but it is a personal choice about how a dancer will represent herself to make money.
It is also so true that dancing cannot be your bread and butter anymore. This has to be one little part of your life, not all of it. The only way to stay sane ; P

yep. this business is totally about sales.

being pretty is a give in, and the prettier you are, the bigger the edge. But ultimatly, less pretty girls 7-8 instead or a 10) CAN outearn hotter girls, b/c they have personality, and they know how to sell.

honestly, if i hadn't had this site, where girls suggested things like 'charge for your time' and cutesy ways of asking for tips, i would have had a very difficult time figuring out how to make money as a black dancer. this site was a lifesaver in helping me figure out how to earn consistent and decent money.

i originally started out by approaching EVERYONE, often specifically focusing on customers the other dancers ignored. in fact, i would recommend that route especially for newbie black dancers to get them used to the higher levels of rejection they are likely to face. it also helps one learn how to appeal to the broadest range of customers, which is useful for white dancers, but INVALUABLE for black dancers.

You are very pretty. You will never be everyone's type. Not even the hottest girl in the world is every man's type.

Some guys think my body is perfect, others think I'm too thin or my boobs are too small, then others think I have the best boobs ever - see what I mean?
