    Default Dj... no the ANNOUNCER!!!!

I think I have complained a few times on here about our announcer (our so called DJ). He came from another club and thinks his shit doesnt stink.

I am the girl that tips you if you deserve it... if you dont... better luck next time.

He constantly is giving the girls a hard time for not tipping him. For god's sake he gets paid by the hour and since we have a jukebox all he does is announce us to go up and down on stage.

On saturday night he sat around waiting for the right time to ASK for his tip. Here was the conversation..

You going to tip me tonight?
    Nope.
    Thats fine, Karma's a bitch.
I know Karma very well, Im not to worried.
Why are you such a bitch?
Im sorry Im a bitch but I just dont think you deserve a tip... To Insure Proper Service... tip. DO something and I might think about tipping you.
Well I will just tell every guy that comes in the door that your a bitch and that you shouldnt be working here. And I get asked by everyone why we even let you work here.
Go ahead, I dont need your 'friends' to tip me I make my money and as far as being asked why I work here, what the hell do you do that makes you worth a shit.
Ill just announce that I think you are the grossed, tattooed bitch every night.
(laughing) ok, go ahead and do that and if you think for a minute the owners are going to allow that more than once... you must need tips for that great crack your smoking.

    I got up and left.

I hate him... HATE him. He is the worst dj (announcer) "ok guys, lets welcome the lovely... exotic... beautiful so-n-so" Those are the ONLY words he has... I SWEAR hahaha.

I guess I get the weekends off now cause I wont work with that cock sucker!

ummm, i would tell the pig to find his trough and choke on the swill... no, seriously, i would say something to management/owners... if they have an ounce of human decency or business knowledge they'll speak to him. or, you can just try to not work when he is... sounds like you've already won the game because you're smarter w/ more seniority... or you can play his... but i wouldn't.

I can understand not tipping if the DJ messes up constantly, is a rude dickhead, etc. BUT...

Seeing that there is only a jukebox there, is it really his fault that there is not much more to his job than just being an announcer?

To ASK FOR a tip is tacky, but if it is customary to tip in your establishment, I'd give him $3-$5 per shift just to keep the peace. I mean, you DO sorta need an announcer, right? OTOH, If tipping is not customary then he has no place in asking the girls to tip him.

We recently just got the jukebox... but before when he was the DJ he was the worst DJ I have had in over 9 years. He wouldn't play anything we wanted, the music was to low, and he put the customers to sleep.

Tipping is optional and he just gives the girls shit to get money out of them..

Some DJ's just don't have what it takes to pep up the crowd and pump up the dancers.

But, you get more bees with honey than vinegar, and one tip we learned in the DW seminar is to give the DJ a TYPED script of what we want him to say when we are on stage.

You could try giving him the script of waht you want him to say, and go over it with him when you get to work. let him know that if he does a good job of getting the guys to tip you, you will give him a tip above and beyond the minimum.

For example, if he does a good job, give him some of his tips right after your set, and compliment him on a job well done. If he does a poor job, inform him of that, and tell him if he follows your script next set he will be rewarded.

If none of this works just give him a big fuck you and tip him nothing or the bare minimum.

My guess is that if you stay on him and motivate him, he will improve some. Total improvement again depends on his personality. Since you are in Utah, stage tips are important, so I would work as hard as I could to bring him around.

I wonder why he doesn't find a job somewhere else? The new system your club put in seems to make him pretty obsolete...

I'd give him $5 or something after a shift anyway. It's fucked that he would resort to nasty semi-blackmail fear tactics to try to get a tip out of you, but he does have to make a living too and if you're making okay money, do you really miss a couple bucks?

I always tip, even if the person is an asshole. There was a DJ here in Nashville that I was friends with for a while, but his feelings got hurt because I didn't share personal 'feelings' over him, and we became sworn ememies. It was all down hill from there.

We didn't talk-ever. He knew the type of music I liked and he would play it, no talking me up, nothing. Ya know what, I still tipped that asshole the exact same amout I did when we liked each other. He couldn't say that he wasn't talking me up or anything else because I stopped tipping him well, so he had no excuse for being an ass. I'm so glad I don't work with him anymore......

According to snopes (http://www.snopes.com/language/acronyms/tip.htm) and I've heard it from other places, the word "tip" does not stand for anything. I hate not being announced when I go on stage, so I wouldn't mind tipping him a few dollars. Sometimes it's just not worth the fight.

The DJs I have worked with would not take well to being presented with a typed script.

Not that it's all that bad an idea, mind you--but it's making the dubious assumption that the DJ is literate, lol. Plus most of the guys I have worked with (with the exception of my present club, in which the guy is very cool) would interpret this as an attempt to circumvent their own pathetc attempts to be eloquent.

But this is Florida, maybe the DJs in Vegas are more intelligent, and have a much higher reading level than in this state.

The carrot and stick approach is best when dealing with the tipping situation, and it can work both ways.

Rewarding him for a good introduction immediately after the fact is a great idea. If he never does shit for you, don't give him anything, but be ready to reward him if he wakes up and comes around. Good boy, here's a treat!

Similarly, if a dancer asks me to repeatedly play music which is not really ideal for the club or the crowd or the night, and then gives me 5$ after being in the Champagne Room that night, do you think I'll bend the rules (written or unwritten) for her again? Fuck no...

I'm confused, how does the dj work with a jukebox? Who plays the music? Does he stand next to the jukebox with a mic?

    Strange...

In the clubs I have seen with jukeboxes, the girls pick their own music--but they have to pay for it, which usually means paying out well over 10-15$ a night, depending on how often they have to go onstage. This might mean paying well over what some dancers feel is a suitable tip to a DJ, but also means they have more control over what they dance to--assuming they can find music they really like in the jukebox.

Sometimes one of the bouncers will double as announcer, which might mean he is working pretty hard all things considered, but it might not, lol.

I know finding the exact songs needed at the right time (considering what the dancer will perform well to, what the predominant customer mix might be, and what management wants played--not to mention what night and what time it is), cueing them up so they start at the right place, and end after 3 minutes or less at the right place, is a very large part of the job in my present club. Ideally the song will either flow smoothly from the previous song both musically and in the mixing process--or more rarely be a deliberate contrast--i.e. a slow sexy song can sometimes be pulled off on a busy night if you then kick right in with something energetic immediately afterwards (but this is tricky).

The one club here in town with a jukebox will just cut the song off cold right at the three minute mark, which butchers the song, usually, and kills any pretense of a smooth transition between songs, or any notion of a pleasant auditory experience on the part of the customers.

    OMG that sucks!

I'd rather spend the money on a DJ with a computer full of music.

Yeah, provided he's not an asshole, lol...

So many of the DJs I have known or seen in action were illiterate swine with no class or style, irritating nasal voices, cheesy music, lame jokes about the customers' penes, etc. I can't stand the majority of them, and would pay them to shut the fuck up if I could toss a few bucks their way, and I thought it would work.

But then there are the exceptions, such as many of our SW members who are DJs, which is why these threads so often become heated debates, an entirely unnecessary ordeal if you ask me.

I have tried tipping him in the past. It doesnt change anything, so I have gotten to the point that I dont tip him.

Him being an asshole doesnt phase me, I could care less what he thinks or says about me. And him trying to bully his way out of a tip just goes to prove that he doesnt deserve one.

The jukebox... I love it. I am an easy girl to please at work.. just dont play me r&b or rap and we are good. But, the announcer/dj couldnt figure that out no matter how many times I told him. That is why I was so excited to have the jukebox..

Anyone who makes you dance to rap when you told him you don't like it should be strung up by his thumbs.

Obviously a tip is unnecessary in his case, and would in fact be counterproductive--he might be further encouraged to think he is somehow useful to you or the club, instead of being a parasite.

If he doesn't deserve the tip, f*ck him than. We have a couple of djs were i wrk and there was one specific one that is a total asshole sometimes. So when he wuz a dick he didn't get tipped. I work hard for my money and they only way I will tip is if the person is doing thier job and not being a fuck hat to me. Just my two cents.

Instead of insulting him like that, I'd just give him $5 a night. No sweat off my nose and $5 is really nothing - as long as he is announcing you on stage and playing your songs I think $5 is fine.

What I have come to resent lately is the damn "bathroom mom" at my current club. She takes up way too much space in what's already a crowded bathroom, spreads her shit all over the counter - literally to the point there is NO space left on the counter, and of course costs me a fucking dollar every time I have to piss. I HATE the bathroom troll, in any club. They don't do ANYfuckingthing for me - I can get my own damn paper towel, THANKS!!! I recently discovered there's a toilet and sink in the dressing room, aside from the regular ladies bathroom, so have quit using the ladies when the "bathroom mom" is working. I just see the whole thing as yet another hand among the MANY for me to feed at work and I RESENT it. The other night some dumb broad took it upon herself to pass the BR troll's tipjar around the dressing room demanding tips. Fuck that!! I didn't even set one foot in that bathroom all night so I'll be damned if I'm gonna fucking pay her. I flat refused and will continue to do so.

Incidentally, I overheard a waitress training another new waitress at work last night, and telling her how the bathroom mom "needed" a tip because "when you wash your hands she'll hand you a paper towel". I wondered if she realized how ridiculous that sounded.

Yeah, if he played my songs... I would tip him, but he doesnt. He doesnt do a damn thing.

And if I worked at your club I wouldnt be tipping the BM a dime either. If you dont do anything for me.. I dont have to tip you. Plain and simple to me I think.

Be careful though cause when people dont get tipped they tend to get all freaky and spiteful!
