    Default Energy?

So right now my BF is suffering from narcolepsy, and has done so for about 15 years. Caffeine doesn't affect him at all (have seen him pop 4 No Doz and fall right to sleep) and has lately been very tired from it, and falling asleep at work. Now of course you can't fall asleep at work, and we're currently researching Provigil (Modafinil) for help but thats prescription and we'd like to keep that as a last resort. I thought maybe some type of diet pill, as he is willing to endure the shakes to just stay awake, but I don't know what is out/what works as far as energy. Any suggestions, diet pills or not, would be appreciated.

Has he been clinically diagnosed? I ask because my uncle has narcolepsy which was brought on by sleep apnea. He was referred to a sleep clinic where they have documented that he was waking up over 70 times an hour!!!!! He sleeps with a seepak(?) machine now which helps tremendously (I've certainly noticed a difference! He no longer just falls asleep in random places)

Hasn't had a sleep study done, and his father uses that machine, so that might help. I also notice when he goes to sleep, he will snore, and then kind of catch himself snoring and kind of choke and wake up, which might explain the constant tiredness as he can't stay asleep for long.

Hmmm I quickly looked at the machines but it seems as though you need a prescription for a lot of them. Boo. He has health insurance but it isn't really that great so I'd rather just buy it out right.

I think he might want to see the doctor at least once just to make sure.

Do they require sleep studies to prescribe one? I know those cost out the ass.

I knew someone with narcolepsy who was prescribed the amphetamine Dexadrine. It works well. I'd advise getting your boyfriend to a doctor so he can be prescribed something similar.
