Default Dry frizzy hair? Step Inside...

I have a serious fetish for all things hair and after trying out this recipe I MUST pass it on. You ladies who want to find an organic solution to the moisture protein balance have to give this a try. It won't weigh down your hair.. don't worry. But it will leave it super moist and your strands will noticeably (sp) feel stronger!

    You need:

    - A soft Hass Avacado
-Half a cup of Extra Virgin Olive Oil ( I use the trader joes brand)
    -A whole egg

Cut up the avacado and scoop out the flesh. The brown bits of flesh are too be used as well. It should be really mushy. Mash it up with the EVOO and once it's runny add the egg. I use my blender, it will give it a thick smooth texture.

Wash your hair with a clarifying shampoo, or regular shampoo. If you use alot of products I firmly suggest a clarifying shampoo to rid your hair of buildup.

Add this mask. It will be a lil cold, but you can warm it up for 30 secs to take the chill off.

Cover your head with a cap and a warm towel and relax for 30mins.

After 30 mins remove the cap. Your hair will be a lil sticky but that's okay. It's due to the egg.

Now rinse. I must stress. DO NOT USE HOT WATER!! It will cook the egg in your hair, use lukewarm water. Find a nice balance in temp, don't use cold water. This treatment isn't purely moisture so you don't want to rinse with cold water, that would only make your hair stiff. Again, make sure the water is lukewarm.

Massage your scalp to remove any bits of avacado out ( especially if you didn't use a blender to make this, the texture will be chunky if you don't but it's still all good )

Afterwards apply a good leave in. Your leave in will seep into your hair.

I usually apply a moisturizing conditioner afterwards for an hour, but remember that if you do choose to follow this up with a deeeeepp conditioner I strongly suggest that it's simply a moisturizing one. You already have given yourself a dose of protein with the mask. This combo always creates lush, thick, smooth, buttery hair.

You should notice a difference in the strength and elastcity of your hair. It will add shine, and eliminate frizz.

Sweeeeeeeeet. Thanks. Ever since I bleached my hair (repeatedly) to dye it pink, it's been a bit on the frizzy side.

^^^ you will definately LOVE this. It will bring back moisture and also give you the correct balance of protein. Tell me how you like it once you try.

Awesome..great minds think alike. I got the recipie from my mom, it's certainly not a secret But I slept on the idea for YEARS!! My mom used it on me as a child, but I didn't notice the benefits of course. I just want to urge others to try it, they won't be sorry

ETA: I did a search but the only topics that came up were about diets, and some were hair related, but I didn't see the recipie. Oh well..carry on... lol

Yrs. ago I did used to use a raw egg on my hair. This receipe seems like it would be hard to wash out..my area has some of the hardest water in the country. I usually give the overripe avacadoes to my lil' bunny, she loves 'em. But next time I get one ripe enough I may try this.

It would be a little difficult to wash out with hard water, but if you use a blender to mix create the conditioner, than it will be as creamy as a store bought item. Oh yeah, you may want to get a bottle of distilled water, my water is hard as hell too, so I feel your grief Let me know how it goes hun.

is there any substitute for the avocado? I already went to the store to stock up for the upcoming storm and this would be oh so nice to try during the snow day tomorrow. Could I use evoo, egg and...what? What about honey?

Hmmm, I never substituted the avacado because that's what gives the moisture, but you could play around with a couple of ingredients depending on your hair need. I want to suggest yougurt because it will condition the hair. If you do use yogurt make sure it's plain yogurt. And only use half an egg if your hair doesnt need a heavy dose of protein. You may also want to add a tablespoon of honey. But it also depends on what your hair needs at the moment.

    A few of my fave that you probably have in the kitchen are;

Honey ( natural humectant, will draw moisture into your hair)

    coconut milk( increases softness)

coconut oil ( amazing shine, and softness, will also seal in moisture)

    mayo ( protein)

    avacado ( moisture and conditioning)

    yogurt ( protein and conditioning)

apple cider vinegar ( clarifying, controls porosity but takes weeks to make dosage correctly)

whole egg ( protein and sulfur)

well I braved the shitty roads to get an avocado. haha They're never ripe at the store though so I have it in a paper bag set on top of the heating vent in an attempt to "ripen" and soften it by later tonight. I also picked up some powdered coconut milk and lavender oil. Tonight's home-spa night!

well, my tween-age daughter and I both did the hair mask tonight. I used two eggs since it was to be split between the both of us, and the avocado was still pretty hard. It even smelled "green" as in unripe but I figured it would still work well. We whipped everything up in the blender, washed our hair in the kitchen sink with avalon (I think it was avalon I'm too lazy to get up and check right now) lemon clarifying shampoo and then slathered the mask on. The unripe avocado did not totally mash up but it was a nice consistency but it left little hard green balls all over our hair. Left it on for 30ish minutes, rinsed with lukewarm water and then I reshampooed our hair with my regular shampoo. Man, the lather was INSANE it was really bizarre. Anyhow, our hair turned out soft, shiny and it was a fun experience to do together. We will definately repeat but this time with a softer avocado. Thanks.

Awwww family bonding time always melts my heart, lol.
I'm so glad to hear that it turned out well. Trust me, it will be even better next time when you use a spoiled avacado well...u know. Your hair is probably thanking you for the treat, keep it up and you'll give Barbie a run for her money. Doesn't it feel good to get soft healthy hair with organic paraben free products, now I'm all giddy.

Anyway, now I want to go do a treatment on my hair myself. I'll be back for details.

Ok. I just bought a sale avacado (.50c!) It's VERY ripe. I have a lil' piece of banana that's very ripe, & I have only egg whites, cause that's what I use. I also use avacado oil on my hands/hair, so I think I'll throw that in. Been cleaning/sorting all day, so not sure if I'll use it tonight, but def. tomorrow.

    So I tried it.
I also used aan avacodo that wasn't ripe, it was still green, and had a problem with mashing.
I mashed it up best I could with the olive oil, and added the egg, and blended it with a blender.
Washed my hair with cheap clarifying shampoo.
Added the mask. I was scared! it was the most disgusting thing I have ever put in my hair! and all chunky!
After a half hour, I rinsed it out. I didnt think I would ever get all the chunks out! but I did my best.
Added a deep conditioner. I used Colestrol hair conditioner for ethnic hair. It is the best!
Let that sit for an hour while I took a nap.

Rinsed it out, and had to wash my hair to get all the chunks of avacodo out that I missed eariler.
Put on a light conditioner, rinsed that out.

Wow. My hair was nice! I loved it!

    Everyone shoudl try this!
While the avacodo is sitting in your hair, use an asprin mask on your face, and soak your feet in a hot bath. You will feel like a new woman!

If an avacado isn't ripe ehough, nuke it (in the micro-wave) for a minute or two. Or substitute banana

^^^ awww, dayum, lol. But you may not have needed the mask in the first place, that's a good thing! I only use it when I need moisture and protein, but then again I've used it when I didn't need it and I didn't see a difference either....but that's because it's a solution to moisture, light shedding and breakage. I don't use it to make my hair look good, it usually makes it feel good. Aww well. It may work in the future, do you mind telling me how you prepared it?

I tried it again tonight, with a ripe avacodo. I also blended it really well. Much better this way. I washed it first, then added the mask, let it sit, then I rinsed it really good. I did NOT need to rewash my hair. Then I used a deep conditioning mask, let that sit, and rinsed it out. My hair is drying now. I also gave myself a pedicure, used an asprin mask, a honey mask, and a sugar scrub on my body. I feel beeeaatiful now

You can store the mixture, but the length is dependant with how ripe your ingredients are when you mix it. I usually use the really old man wrinkly avacado's so I won't leave it in the fridge no longer than a week. But my fridge is also super cold so their's alot of variables involved. Although I do suggest that you mix the ingredients seperatly if you're concerned. For example, I'll leave the egg out of the mixture and blend the remaining ingredients, once I'm ready to apply the mask I will whip the egg in the portion of the blend already prepared. Sometime's my hair doesn't need the protein, so I'll leave the egg out of the blend and use the mask as a pre conditioner treatment.
