Default gassy at night; embarassing, yes...

Ok, I think I've always been kinda gassy (I'm a vegetarian...), but I've noticed sometimes how much it happens at night. Like, you're laying there next to your man at night, when you're both asleep, and for whatever reason you're almost but not completely asleep, when all of a sudden... gas leak!
I've had this happen a few times where I was almost asleep, and then out of nowhere... FART, where it wakes you up just enough to notice what happened. Whenever that has happened I'd just sleepily hope to myself that my boy was already asleep so he didn't hear it!

It's so embarassing some times that I'm afraid to fall asleep next to someone because I don't want to do that to them at night. Please tell me I'm not the only one with this problem! I don't think I have any real gas problems, so I guess it's just normal gas at night, but still... it is embarassing. Is there anything I can do, besides the normal advice for getting rid of gas?

Although, thinking about it... I suppose it's better to let it all out at night when everyone is *hopefully* asleep, rather than during the day in front of everyone...

Have u worked out what foods cause gas? For me it's spinach, onion, beans, pasta and tuna.
I know if i eat these foods I will fart like a trooper all night.

You can also get something called Degas - I haven't used it I have just seen it at the chemist.

Charcoal tablets apparently take the odour out of farts.

Everyone gets gas, but too much of it (like uncomfortable) is a symptom of poor digestion. Try not to eat within three hours of bedtime- that should help. Don't lie down after meals, try to move around. Chew food very thoroughly, eat smaller meals, and keep a food diary to figure out which foods/ beverages are giving you trouble. Being a vegetarian, you likely have lots of insoluble fibre, so try to have some rice or other sources of insoluble fibre to help digestion. Sometimes dairy is a big offender too.

Do you drink dairy? I found out that my gas problem did not stem from veggies but from milk! If legumes are a big part of your diet, soak your beans overnight, then discard the soaking liquid and wash the beans. Also, some foods are high in sulfur (smells like rotten egg!), such as broccoli. Drink a lot of water.

For the record I'm vegetarian too. These are merely my observations.

One night, I was in the club dressing room, and a dancer came in there and walked up to me freaking out and trying to get a hug out of me. Apparently she had been giving one of her regulars a VIP and while she's bent over, with her ass practically aiming to his face, and she's completely naked (all nude club) she farts. Loud. Luckily the guy laughed it off, but this girl was mortified! I thought i was funny, but I would have been freaking out too!!
I guess the moral of the story is gas is something we all deal with and in my experience, I only have it when it's really inappropriate and embarassing

Grains make me gassy, without fail. No grains...no gas. Like, no gas ever. It is amazing.

I think it's partly a relaxation thing too - you bottle it up, so to speak, then when you relax it all lets rip .... happens to me too but thankfully the other half is usually asleep before me lol! I've found cutting milk, bread, pasta and floury stuff, potatoes and being veggie has helped me, also I do take enzyme supplements and acidophilus. This seems to have worked a treat, but letting it out in the bathroom periodically during the day is good too. I'm sure that may have been too much detail for some, I'm sorry!

My old roommate was vegetarian and dairy would always make her especially gassy.

I have alot of GI issues, gas being one of the myriad of symptoms, and I've found those new Gas X strips work really well!! It's a bit strange tho because after I take them, I get a few sharp pains (like enough to take me by surprise) in my stomach and then . . . my stomach is as calm as a summer lake. Seriously, the gas and rumbling and general overactivity is gone. The pain thing might just be me tho cuz I know a few other people who use them and they're like, "What pain are you talking about?" LOL. And, you can always act like, 'What? They're just breath strips. Here, you want one?"

Also, eating less dairy products and fruit juices and gluten-y stuff has helped. You don't have to give it up but just a little bit less even helps.

I just giggle when it happens, not much else you can do. The giggling comes out as naturally as the gas, since I'm half asleep. And I've never been w a man who didn't go it occasionally himself.

Another vegetarian here, and I've also been accused of being a sleep pooter.

I used to use gas-x, but gas-x would clog up horribly and then I'd have stomach pains from constipation. I'd prefer the farts!

For a while there I was using Bean-o. You put a few drops of this stuff on your food before you eat, and it prevents the gas from even forming. This worked so much better!

I get that too! I dunno why, I am ALWAYS embarrassed to sleep over at someone's house. Usually it is when I need to poop but refuse to because I'm at someone else's house.

the other morning I farted right in the hand of the man I'm dating. Unfortunately he was awake at the time and made sure to tell me all about it... after I woke myself up with another one. lol All I could do was giggle and say "goood morning!"

Im sorry but this reminded me of the funniest and possibly scariest thign that ever happened to me.
I was dating a new boy, and the first night I stayed over at his house, we were asleep when he suddenly woke me up cause he was talkign in his sleep and rolling around, tossign and turning. It was freakin me out.

Then he calmed down, layed still for a few minutes when all the sudden he lifted his leg really high in the air, and let out the loudest nastiest fart ever. How do you know to lift your leg to fart when your sleeping?

Freaked me out so bad, I thought this boy was posessed or something. I never saw him again.

wow I have this exact same problem! Im also a vegetarian and am afriad when I sleep over at my boyfriends house. Its happened a few times on accident and I just lay there and hope he was asleep and pretend I was. Lol thank you for this thread

If you are having digestive troubles you might consider taking enzymes, which you can get from health food stores. I think chewing food better and eating slower is good advice.

--->>>Oh my gosh, I used to have that same eekiness about pooping at other places where others would know I did! I remember how this embarassment really made me suffer..I was at 7th grade trip to the cape, we were there for an entire week, and I literally tried to hold off pooping because there weren't any private places to do it...sooo many girls shared the cabin with just 2 bathrooms, and I knew that everyone would smell the odor afterwards because there was poor ventialtion in the bathroom. Jeez, it was pathetic! I should've just taken the damn dump, but nooo...I was just embarassed that my body functioned normally...and was embarrassed by the unglamorous act of pooping and the odor that comes after. Thankfully I don't give a damn anymore, but it's too bad I did then!
    This thread iiis funny!

I used to be vegetarian, and had dammmm big case of farts alllll the time. I feel sorry for my freshman roomate When I stopped eating beans and over-doing it on the fiber (lots of vegetarian foods have lots of fiber...and I think maybe the soy stuff made me gassy), and when I laid off the cabbage, broccoli, and onions, and oily foods or over-eating takeout food like chinese, indian, etc, i'd never have lots of farting. It's like a miracle, like i'm cured. I'm not happy I strayed from my vegetarian ideal, but i'm glad I don't have the gas attacks I used to. I couldn't work as a dancer if I were as gassy as I were then!
I guess you need to reduce the amount of fiber you're getting...seems like you might be getting oto much, which is linked to the gassiness. Just realize there iiis a way to troubleshoot this...you don't have to be gassy forever. I just am soo relieved that now I don't feel queasy when with boyfriend/going out on dates, because I don't have to worry about a fart coming out.... that's the worst thing, having to clench your ass muscles tight to hold in a fart, while walking with your dude, hoping that when you let it out the wind will be blowing away from you, not towards you, lol!
