K, so on my way to pick up my kiddo from school, I see this dog walking along the sidewalk, he swaying side to side, panting heavy and limping....So I slow down to kind of check him out and I see he's a pit bull. Now I am not one of those people who believes that all Pit Bulls are bad dogs, but I do believe that MANY people buy pit bulls to turn them into bad dogs, so I'm being cautious here.
Suddenly the dog veers off the sidewalk right in front of my car. I brake, get out and he's laying in the road in front of my car! Just laying there! (no, I didn't hit him, he was about 5 feet away).
My car door is still open and I kind of squat/kneel and call to him real sweet. He gets up, walks over to me, past me,and jumps into my car! Oooookay, now what?
I lean into the car, the doggy kives me massive slobbery doggy kisses and I'm trying to read his tag. No tag, just a very tattered cute plaid collar with little silver hearts all over it. But the collar is virtually shredded at this point, and the dog is obviously dehydrated, and his hind foot is bleeding on my car seat. I say 'sit'. he sits....
Long story getting short. I take the doggy home, he eats all of my dog's toys (in 45 minutes!) and knocks down my doggy door. I have called animal control and they say they can't come till tomorrow! I go to take him to the animal control shelter.....oh my god. I couldn't leave him there! I couldn't!!! It was death row for furry critters! and I barely made it out of there without bawling!
I call around and FINALLY find a no kill shelter who will take him (because he's a pitt no one would take him!) I drop him off, with lots of slobbery wet kisses, and am keeping my fingers crossed for him.
*Side note. I am totally miserable about what I saw at the Animal Control Center...... Some one tie me down to keep me from saving all those lil guys on death row!![]()

But I'm so proud of her for doing it, even though it hurt her to see the animals so hurt. She would get anything out of the road, birds, rabbits, dogs, cats...

The people who run these types of shelters mean well, but their hearts are often bigger than their heads, unfortunately.
