ZURICH, Switzerland - (AP) - What began as a routine training exercise almost ended in an embarrassing diplomatic incident after a company of Swiss soldiers got lost at night and marched into neighboring Liechtenstein.

It may have been accidental, but the Swiss have violated the First Rule of International Confrontation, and that is to NEVER invade a country whose name is difficult to spell.

First, there is the problem of how to address the invaded country's citizens. Are they Liechtensteinians? Or just Lieches? Use the wrong term, and a fight is liable to break out. On the other hand, they might just decide to pour another drink and forget about it.

Then there is the issue of how to pronounce the invaded country's name. One wrong mispronunciation, and the FCC might shoot a newscaster.

I think the Swiss need to go back to making cheese, and the L's need to come up with another name. Maybe they could even get a corporate sponsorship, such as the Bank America Republic, or Daimler Nation.

I'm telling you, this is a disaster.
