just a quick question- how do you stay motivated to hustle through a shift? i seem to loose steam just about 2/3 the way through my shifts, espeicially on the high energy weekends.

That sure motivates me!!!!

i try to find a sappy guy and tell him that my "day job" (i'm a nanny by day) makes me so tired... and I usually get back rubs/massages along with a few dances.
ive learned to do one day one, one day off otherwise im no good at work becos i cant be arsed to make the effort, id rather be in bed.

Try to find what works for you so you don't have the "Law of Diminishing Returns" happen to you because you are working a little too hard for your own sake. Everyone has different 'endurance' levels. Some can work many days on before taking a day off. Others (like me) can only work a specific short amount of days in a row or prefer the one day on, one day off way of working.
Also, do not be afraid to take a nice long 15 min break out in the dressing room once every few hours. Listen to your mp3 player, read a book and most importantly HAVE SOMETHING TO SNACK ON during this break. You may find that you are tired due to not having had something to eat. Take healthy snacks to work with you (search Body Business for more information as it has been covered there).
You see the key here is "prevention is better than cure". I don't have to try to motivate myself when I am tired because I try to not get tired. I try to take breaks when I need to have a break from the floor so I can have something to eat, drink and rest my feet (and mind) for a few minutes.

agreed on the snacks. i always have cereal bars and nuts and the odd banana and i find that really helps me get through the tiredness. sometimes a little caffeine as well if i really need that extra push![]()

Coffee!!! It's what gets me through especially the night shifts. i can actually see me income decrease by half if i don't have any on a particular day. It makes me ultra talkative and hyper and it makes me work nonstop until the shift is over.

yes, coffee on my way to work, and then not drinking, so i maintain more energy. when i have drank in the past, i lose steam a LOT faster. or, drink a red bull at some point. remind yoruself you have not yet hit your goal (and dont count at that point, because that will decrease your motivation)
Love it!

I cant do anything when I am tired. Granted I work 12 hour shifts on saturday nights which is a killer.
Last night I had a break at about 4am and had something to eat but once Im tired I just need to go to bed no energy drinks work for me.
So my regular decides to show up at 4am and I'm thinking crap I was about to go home. I only got through dancing for about an hour for him before I had to sacrifice the money and leave. I apologised to him but when I thought about it I did not want to give him a tired, half-arsed dance anyway coz he is a great regular.
I carry a small hand bag with me on the floor and every night before I start my shift I put a picture or token of some kind into my purse to remind me of something that motivates me...The car you want to put a down payment on, a role model etc....When I feel tired or like I’m losing my hustle I peak a quick look at the picture and remind myself. It's always helped me!
thanxs everyone for those great ideas! taking a 15 min break and grabbing a small snack seems to do the trick for me. especially if that snack is an awesome salad of spring greens and chicken w/strawberriesit is also nice to remind myself that im always one dollar closer to culinary school

This is something I need to work on. Since I freelance, if I'm tired and discouraged, it's easy for me to give up and go home instead of motivating myself to work harder. I like the pic idea BaileyBanksNBiddle.
Having a book or magazine to read helps energize me. If I'm really tired and overworked but have to make money, I usually try to adopt a humorous attitude. For example, I'll walk up to a customer I know and say dramatically, but with a smile on my face, "alas, my poor feet, they ache kind sir, perhaps if I sit near you, your strength will seep into them and inspire my dance." Corny, yes, and it could seem really weird to customers, but I often get a laugh. However, I only say this to guys that I know, ones who I know will laugh and say, "sure, sit down hun." Sometimes one can't help but come across as tired, and customers can pick up on it. Some sympathize. However, it's never good to whine or complain to them.
"Seeing the landscape at this superficial level only captures its boring uniformity, not allowing you to immerse yourself in the spirit of the place; for that you must stop at least several days."
~Che Guevara, "The Motorcycle Diaries"
I'll sit down, have an energy drink, and just relax for a few minutes. Then, I will kind of float around, taking it slow and doing my stage shows.
Later in my shift, people are generally drunk so it actually gets easier to see who's going to spend (out of really wanting a dance or out of doing it just cuz theyr'e drunk and their friends tell them to) and who's not.
I'm still making money, I'm just not stressing it since I've already made (at least some) money... So I actually end up making more towards the end of the shift when compared to the beginning.
If you think school is hard, try being stupid.
Red Bull.Works like a charm for me!
Or, like the poster above said, work the fatigue into your hustle. If I'm working a double or smoething, and I'm exhausted, I always grin and play it off like "whew, it feels good to sit down! i've gotten more dances than I can handle tonight! I would loooove to just take these shoes off and curl up in private with you...." IMHO it's always a good thing to seem like you're *almost* to the point of worn out simply because every man in the club just HAD to have a piece of you tonight! Makes you seem in-demand.
Actually, when I'm REALLY exhausted is when i do my best and sell the most. Because I'm just on auto-pilot--not over-analysing, not thinking negatively (not thinking at all, really!); i just turn my brain off, stop overthinking and just HUSTLE.

Some Douchebag: "[Pimp C] 12:43 am: its true we got to stick together the black people on SW CK you is teh condoleeza of SW"

Cigarettes. It's not an ideal solution though, I realize. But honestly, it's all that works for me (I can't eat or drink while working without hurting my delicate stomach). Getting enough sleep is useful too.
When I'm tired at work, I minimize my breaks and force myself to stay out on the floor and get dances. It's torture I know, but the tough love works.
Anything away from hustling that will suck my energy dry is immediately stopped. I need to focus on the last stretch, like a predator looking for it's last kill. And eventhough I'm walking at a snail's pace because I'm so tired I'm still productive because I'm out there, visible to the customer and more focused and in tune with getting a dance because I want to get off my aching feet and sit down so bad.
This also works for me because when my energy is drained my demeanor is softened, less aggressive, and more seductive and in tune with people's emotions. My hustle is more believable and people feel more comfortable with me quicker because of my laid back, non-chalant sales approach.
Also changing your shoes halfway through your shift does wonders for sore calves!
On the other hand, I quit smoking about four months ago, and I have so much more energy at work now. I don't know if they're necessarily related, but if the OP *does* smoke, maybe she could try to smoke less. Worth a shot.
I try to eat a small, healthy snack (usually fresh fruit) every couple of hours. It gives me a few minutes to decompress and relax by myself and helps keep me from going all hypoglycemic.
For those REALLY exhausted and unmotivated times, I drink a can of Red Bull (sugar-free version, plz). It tastes like ass, but damn does it make me perky!
write a list of all the random things you want to buy, little luxury things, and the price. maybe throw in some big ones too- like a holiday.
pull it out and look at it everytime you start to frizzle in the night. cross things off when you buy them so you see some progress.
well, that helps me.
or have a can of red bull, and make your own fun![]()

i also use being tired to my advantage. i usually am more apt to sit down next to someone (still making sure it's someone who seems like they might buy dances) and start talking. sitting down will help me rest my feet, plus allow me to look around (subtly) at other possible sales and get myself out in the open to be "seen." also, since my feet hurt and i am low on energy and don't feel like getting up, i talk more to the guy, which usually makes him feel more special. in general, i end up having a higher chance of getting a dance when i do this...and even if i don't, i don't feel agitated that i spent all my time trying to hustle...since all i did was really take a break on the floor instead of in the dressing room.

I try to avoid being tired at work because I get so cranky that it's not worth my time to be there.I live close to where I work, so some evenings I freelance for a few hours and tell myself I only want to make $x and then I'll go home.
For regular 5-hr shifts (on weekends) I keep moving as much as possible. I set hourly goals, but I try not to stress too much. Sometimes I'll let myself be a little lazy, but when it hits 1 AM (close at 2), I tell my friend, "OK let's both see if we can get five more dances each!" Five is just enough to seem doable, and just enough to make an ok night amazing, or a bad night good. And sometimes I get on a roll and all of sudden I have done eight dances!
I also try to avoid working doubles as much as possible, because after about six or seven hours I find that I hit a plateau in my earnings. I know some girls who bank working doubles but I just don't know how they do it.
I have this problem too and I think I just need to change my lifestyle in general. I NEVER work out and I smoke really strong pot...the combination of these two factors makes me just give up sometimes. It happened last night, but that's because a regular customer "bought me out" for the night and when he finally left, I had done well and I just didn't feel like talking to anyone else. (He wanted to talk about Shakespeare and engineering after his money ran out...)
Redbull, lol. And just making sure that you get enough sleep... obviously, you are not going to get it every night, but most nites. Also, going to the gym helps.... I agree that taking breaks are refreshing, so is ordering some food....
I like to set goals for myself like, "When I sell 5 more dances, I can go to the bar and have a cocktail"
or
I'll say anything I make over X amount of dollars I can blow at the mall tommorow, and who doesn't want to do that?
