I dance my ass off on stage, so I'm sure that helps a lot cardio-wise. But I also try to do LD moves that I know are toning me - like when facing the guy, lean back, then come forward really slow, sort of pulling with your stomach muscles. This really helped tone my stomach, but don't make it obvious!

I'm the same weight and "in shape-ness" that I was when I started dancing. I believe it keeps me in shape, I don't have to go to the gym to still have toned muscles, but it didn't get me in shape.

When I started at my first club which had no pole on the main stage it actually f'd up my knees and back. I could barely bend over until I stretched for 5 minutes. Now that I do pole work it's a lot easier on my body.

Sometimes I do still sweat (3 songs on stage, 5 dances in a row) but it a lot less often than it used to be.

Not to mention if you're showing off your body to strangers, you're less inclined to shovel crap into your mouth...

When I dance "full time" I try to go on schedule - which means a lot of stage time (it just assures me that I get my ass in, and keep it in. I also need Emily's book) and I tend to lose weight (although, interestingly, I think of that as my default weight; when I don't dance I gain weight; when I lose it, I'm just back to normal). I can't imagine I would lose weight just lapdancing though.

I know I've definitely lost weight from dancing. A little over 30 pounds. No pole tricks, either. I basically see it as a 5-8 hour workout. Cardio, muscle toning-and the more muscle you have the more fat you burn. Plus, a night schedule is more conducive for my eating habits. I ate so much more when I had an office job, and I was pretty much sedentary the whole time.

When I first started dancing, I lost 15lbs within the first two weeks with a combination of attempting pole tricks and lap dancing. I thought I was in shape when I started because I was going to the gym twice a week and was running on my own, but that pole made a liar out of me. Now I stay out of the gym and work out on the pole. Great for losing weight and sculpting a sexy body. I would definitely recommend it.

I'm in the best shape when I am working a lot. Period. Actually, doing dances is very much like pilates, I think. In that you're making slow, controlled movements. That smooth control of your muscles tones you up. But hands down, the reason I'm toned is the pole. I practice a lot after work and I do a lot of pole tricks and my back and stomach are very strong. There is no better (or fun!) workout than the pole. And what's great is there's always a more challenging move to learn, so you just get stronger and stronger. I love it!

I've always been in great shape when I stripped. But then again, I was a very active lapdancer. In order to do the moves fluidly, you need to be in constant control of your muscles and your balance. Hence, the core is strengthened. Many dancers gain weight because they drink fruity drinks and eat the hearty foods with customers. I seldomly ate anything at work, and usually only drank something like Dewers or Vodka, which has less calories.

I don't see how you couldn't lose some weight. I mean, assuming the rest of your routine is the same, you'd be burning more calories. Even if you're not a really athletic dancer.

I didn't lose weight weight when I started dancing, but I did tone up and lost inches in my waist and thighs making my overall appearance skinnier. I sure worked up a sweat during stage sets (my movements are fluid and faster with wide hip movements) and I could feel the burn in my thighs after a long night of lap dances. It definitely helps, if not make you lose weight.

Yes, avoid the vodka redbulls. Way too many calories, which sucks cuz this is my favorite drink. Does anyone have a suggestion for low cal drinks?

vodka and sugar free red bulls maybe? rum and diet coke? my favorite water. I'm underage so I can't drink at work, even if I was of age, I can't drink too much anyways.

I've been dancing about 10 months and I've only lost about 5 lbs, wasn't big to begin with although still wish I was a little thinner than I am now. I started out at about 122 and am now at 117 but the big difference I noticed is I toned up more in my stomach, legs, stomach and arms. And even though I've been dancing on a regular basis (minimum 3 days per wk) I'm still very sore when I get home. I wonder if the day will ever come where I'm in good enough shape where I won't be sore the next day (wishful thinking).

Well for one, muscle weighs more than fat, so if you lose fat but gain muscle, you'll weigh the same or more. When I work out a lot I weigh 130-132. When I'm out of shape I weigh around 122-124.

Dancing hasn't done any favours for my weight, mostly because of the reasons other girls have mentioned: emotional and late night snacking, etc.

But it has strengthened certain areas of my body through some of the pole tricks that I do. So some muscle has been built, but the layer of fat that covers it is still there because I'm not doing any cardio work.
