Have you ever known anyone who's done this?

Have you ever known anyone who's done this?
I know lots of girls who do.. customers never believe us anyway so it doesnt matter.

as long as your name fits your stripper personality and is a good, easily pronouncable, and understandable name, why not?
also, if you ever want to play the look alike game (someone you don't want to know your a daNCER COMES IN, asks you later, and you deny it and pull the lookalike game) and you use your real name, you're screwed....
wow, that was a hella long parenthesis...

me me me!!!
I use my first name (Vanessa) as my stage name. It is my last name (Stacy) that is the fake part then again I only use Stacy in a 'feature' capacity so it isn't used often.
Got the whole 'Vanessa The Undresser' thing going for it. I've had that said to me because my name is Vanessa even when I was in High School! I definately was NOTHING like I am now back then so it was definately only associated with the fact that my name is Vanessa.
Honestly. I don't see what the big deal about using your real first name is unless you really really need that psychological break from your real self. No one can stalk you on your first name alone they need sooooooooooo much more info than that.
Oh btw, no matter if you use your real name or not you will always be pestered "what is your real name". I say Vanessa is my real name. If they continue to not believe me I use my trick I have mentioned already quite a few times (btw, if you searched this topic in Hustle Hut you would've found a few threads).
"Don't believe me that my real name is Vanessa? Then give me $100 right now and I will then go get my Driver's License and show you."
Guess what. They shut up pretty darn quick. In the many many years I've been using this line, not one person has given me that $100. That's alot of people.

i like playing someone else.. but i tell guys it's my real name. plus, i dont want to make it easy for family friends to recognize me if they come in.
Love it!

I've always used my real name, Susan, snd never had a problem with it.

I dance under my real name and I do the same thing GCG does-offer to show them my ID when they don't believe me (I would cover up my last name and address with my hand.) I didn't bet them $100 but I bet them $20 that my stage name was also my real name, and still no one took me up on the offer!![]()

I've done it before, I think for a year or so. I didn't run into any problems, but I did eventually get to a point at which I preferred to maintain more distance between me and the customers via the use of a stage name.
I've used my real first name for my entire 5 years dancing (5 yr anni was 2/18!) and I've found that it lends to less confusion overall for both yourself and the girls you may meet for drinks or whatnot OTC. Can't say I've ever had a problem with it...less insanity in my life, the better!
Age is only important when it comes to wine and whiskey!
No, never do this. All it takes is one freak to follow you around & start yelling your name on a crowded street...Or to get your car license plate number & find your address....Follow me? They're not entitled to your personal life anyway.
You have no idea how a little carelessness can result in a big headache in this business.

Almost always used my real name. Never caused me any trouble. It's true--they don't believe you anyway, so it really doesn't matter.

Some girls attract the crazy and some don't. I've used my real name for 12+ years of dancing without one weird incident coming of it. However, I also have never had a stalker or a crazy regular or violently jealous coworkers or any of that drama we hear about. Also, I lack the need to hide my profession from anyone.
So figure out what environment you're working in, whether or not freaky unhealthy people have a preternatural attraction to you, and whether or not there are risks associated with your being outed to your family/straight job/PTA. That'll help you figure out how many layers of plausible deniability you need, stage names being the first of many possible ones.

Yeah, I would be interested to know what it is about some women that draws the stalker/unstable types, because I think that is for sure a factor. I'm certain someone's done research on this -- any psych students wanna talk about that?
And it's different for all of us -- tell the family or not? fake name or not? wig? work an hour out of town? and our circumstances determine how we deal with it.
Oh, and pertaining to madmaxine's concerns, it is smart and good for your peace of mind to have the protection of a separate mailing address for phone bills, auto registration, and anything else anyone could use to track you down. Separates your residence and protects you just that little bit more.

I hardly EVER use my home address for anything. I only use if there is no way a PO Box will be acceptable and that is for only one or two things. If they traced my car rego down they would get a PO Box address in a suburb a little away from where I actually live plus ..... um........ how the hell are they able to track me down with JUST my first name don't they need more than that?
Anyway, I've been dancing since 2001 and mainly used my real name in all that time without incident.

My real name is Michelle. Whenever a customer asks my name and I say Misha...they almost always hear Michelle. I think it's my accentThey never ask further.
I'm ok with this and I don't really attract the crazies either
I was Ivy for so many years and guys NEVER believed it was my real name.

In the US you HAVE to have physical address to register your car and driver's license to.So I lie and use a previous address. The government wants to be able to find us when necessary. It is actually illegal to do what I'm doing, I could lose my driving privileges and maybe worse for not properly registering with authorities. Americans are given a 90 day grace period to register an address change. (this is not a strictly enforced law, but it does come in handy if the police want to bring a person in for other reasons).
I'm not sure how the DMV handles homeless people who live in their cars?? Maybe register them to a local shelter or something?

I apologize for not being more specific. IMO using your real name is a poor idea because if you attract a determined enough stalker, he will find ways to insinuate himself into your everyday life, & your real name is one way. (Stalkers are not the only people who use false pretenses to gain access to your person or property. Repo men do it too...)
I have used my real name at work (not often ) because I thought it might "help" me in some way, but actually it bit me in the ass- I worked with some loser chicks who started making up things about me & naturally it's worse if everyone can match your face to the person being slammed by whatever disgruntled parties (fat ugly psycho bitches in this case.) So it's not always stalkers you have to worry about...
Uhhh that's a little overly assumptive.
Yea mostly everyone had really good points on here. Good to know! Cuz I do! And thank god my car is registered to the ex bf all the way across the country! And that I either take public transport or park very far away...I work in NYC which I think can go either way in terms of the danger factor...it is very anonymous.
Thank you so much guys, I feel so much better.
And here's the only time I'll probably ever say it on here, but my name is Ariel....ppl have always said I "seem like an Ariel"...and yea, couldn't think of anything else, would you?![]()
