    CV Resume building

If this is in the wrong forum sorry Melonie.

I am trying to secure articles of clerkship (I am not sure if you use this term in the US but it is the first year out of law school working at a firm).

My Uni stresses the importance of high marks in gaining employment at the top firms and I have above a distinction average. However I keep getting rejection after rejection. I am not even making it to the interview stage!!!!

    I am so frustrated.

So it's gotta be my resume of CV?
Does anyone have any tips for professional (legal would be a bonus) resumes?

    Thanks

are you sure that it's the content of your resume' that is illiciting this reaction by legal firms ?

In the USA, legal firms, financial firms, gov't agencies etc. do a reasonably in-depth background check on potential job applicants. If something turns up in the background check that raises eyebrows, potential US employers have been known to simply put that person's resume' at the bottom of the pile - regardless of that person's grades, qualifications, experience etc. - rather than taking a chance that hiring the person could lead to an awkward development. I'm talking about things like exotic dancer's licenses, adult business registrations etc.

I don't know if this sort of background check is done in Australia. However, if you have very good grades and you're getting the cold shoulder from multiple firms, the background check might be one possible explanation.

You should contact some of those firms human resources depts to ask why you weren't considered for further interviews.

thats a good point but i definately dont have anything that will show up on my record.
we dont have dancers licences here. i just registered for an ABN (AUstralian business number) but the category i have chosen is entertainer and this applies for modelling, teaching dancing etc. also i have just registered this and i have been getting the rejections for ages.

i definately think its my resume or cv. i have no relevant experience i guess except the fact that i have almost completed my degree.

ill keep trying, not going to give up!

lola i did that with one place and they never got back to me. i had asked if i could discuss it with the partner that interviewed me just to get some feedback and she agreed but then every time i called she never got back to me until i gave up.

I have read a couple of articles that firms in the US are hiring private detection agencies to investigate potential staff. They are doing some pretty full on searching online - especially to find things like MySpace pages!!! With so much online these days, you really can't know what might be available about you on the web.

Have you searched for yourself to see what you find?

    Good luck,

    Stuart
