    Bad Hair

    I need some help.
Last Saturday I went and got my hair colored and trimmed(it's short so it doesn't need much). My hair hadn't been colored in a long time so I had MAJOR roots (at least 2 inches). My hair is blonde with the roots being a light brown. Well he put high lights and low lights in and it looked nice at the time, but now like a week later, I see that the roots are still visiable and it doesn't look great.
I paid over a $100 for this and am short on money anyhow.
So my questions is, should I go back to him and have him fix it, or should I go else where and spend more then what I have?

Do you think hes capable of fixing it? I find that a lot of people who fuck my hair up, I don't want to go back to them cause I'm scarred they don't have any skills.

I would recommend getting a base coat but on your roots, or they calle it a touch up. You can have it match either one of the high lights or low lights, and its cheaper! Plus, it won't do that much damange because they will just be putting it on the roots not on your hair.

This is coming from a girl who has had her hair fucked up majorly lots of times. Go with a touch up! (base coat) and try some place else!!

Maybe you could speak to a manager/senior stylist at the salon you did go to. They would be more experienced probably and since it is in the same salon you may get it fixed for free or at a discount price.

This just happened to me. I got my hair done and noticed the next day that I had an inch of roots! WTF??

I would say definitely go back and either demand a refund or make them fix it. Don't let them have the same person do the re-do, which is what they will try to do. Tell them that stylist obviously does not have the proper skills and you would like for someone else to correct the job. I'd ask questions about the new person--how long they've been doing hair, how long at that salon, etc.

Any decent salon will either fix the work or refund your money.

    Thanks everyone!
The bad thing is that he is the owner and has like 30 plus years experence, which kinda makes it sad in a way.
I guess I'll go talk to him tomorrow, see what he will do. I just don't want to spend anymore money on something that should have been done in the first place.

After applying the high's and low's did he come through and use an all over color between the foils? Sometimes when that is done the foils get moved around too much and the foiled color dosen't get as close to the scalp as it should. If this is the case, have him fix it (he'll probaly foil the most visible areas of regrowth), and on your next visit to whomever, tell them you want the all over color done first, then the foils.

It doesn't sound like he's incompetent, effed up your hair, and that you're completely unsatisfied with it, it sounds like it's a minor, fixable problem that he should corrrect for free. If you had ended up with unintentional, flamming orange hair, then I'd say you need to ask for your $$$ back and see someone else for a color correction. However, your concern is not that he messed you up, it's that the growout and root coverage is not satisfactory.

It's been over a week for me too. That's why I'm asking, I don't want to been rude to this guy; I've only been to him twice. I was happy with it at first but now the roots show really bad. I want to audition soon, so I want it to be perfect.

No he didn't do all over color at all, he only did tons of high/low lights. I thought that he did so many that he cover the bad roots.

I mean what is the normal time that you have to complain before it just becomes rude? Does price play a factor too?

Dude, your hair couldn't grow that much in a week and a half (or two weeks, Latina). I say go back!

I reccomend color clients to come in for retouches every six to eight weeks. At one week, I think it's perfectly acceptable to see if he can fix it, especially if you're seeing close to a half inch of roots.

You don't have to be rude, just let him know your concerns and see if he's willing to work with you. If he's unwilling to at least touch up the most visible areas of outgrowth, typically the hair line and part, then calmly let him know you're dissapointed with his work and that you're planning on finding another stylist who's willing to stand by their services.

LatinaRose- two weeks after a service is kinda pushing it. Especially with hair that's naturally as dark as yours that's heavily highlighted, but it's still okay to call and ask that your stylist look at it to see what the problem was and it it can be rectified. If it's a stylist you've worked with consistantly in the past and this is the first time you've had this problem with their highlights, you may want to mention it at your next appointment along with the fact that you'll be very unhappy if it grows out that quickly again. If it's your first time with that stylist, I'd find another. With new highlight clients, most stylists are very aware of how tight they get those foils to the scalp.
