Default To dance or not to dance

I really want to dance again but I am scared. All the clubs I have danced at I have auditioned with a friend and worked with a friend. But she doesn't dance anymore (she can't stand being labeled a "stripper" and cares more about what people think of her then making money) and now I am terrified to try it alone. I mean I know they will hire me but what if the girls are mean or if they have some crazy rules that I forget or something. I am so dependent on other people and I really wanna break out of it and do something for myself by myself but ahhhhhh I am scared!!!! What should I do to give myself the extra push I need to do it alone?

Fear is the mind-killer. Try giving yourself a reward, like "If I do this, I'll buy myself (insert something nice here)

I was scared to death to start dancing. Going into the club on my own, dancing naked for strangers, all of that. But ended up feeding on that rush more than anything else. Once you get started, all of that nervousness will melt away.

Remember, the first steps are always the hardest. In order to fly, a bird first has to leave the nest.

My apologies for the terrible analogies. I'm pretty much bathing in IcyHot after dancing two straight nights to start out . I thought I was in shape, but apparently my body doesn't agree.

Your analogies were great and I love the idea of rewarding myself afterwards! I am gonna go in this weekend, Thanks!

Then don't do the same thing and get your butt back in there! You'll be fine. Just drink a couple of rockstars to get that crazy buzz on and dive right in! It's like ripping off a band-aid, hehe.
If you think school is hard, try being stupid.

Wow. You really should not be a dancer. You'll get eaten alive in this business. As to your last question about getting what you need to go it alone? either you can or you can't. It is not a matter of reading a book or taking a class to gather the inner strength to do something alone.

You are leaving yourself open to being recruited by pimps and other undesirables.

If you need the constant approval of those around you, then being a stripper will destroy you. It is a cutthroat business. In the end your friends are rarely your friends while you are working

Promote yourself and earn more money! This is a business that is owned by strippers for strippers. Let's make that money!

I love dancing and have been on and off for almost 2 years now. I am not scared to be a stripper and I am not in need of approval I am just scared of going to a new club. But thanks for the input anyway. Although suggesting that I am leaving myself open to get recruited by pimps is incredibly insulting and entirely inaccurate.

So you are a dancer already? What's the problem? I thought you were only considering dancing by the way you phrased your post.

I wouldn't have said it if I didn't see it happen with some regularity. The dancer who needs her friend/anchor while at work loses said anchor and mr/mrs. pimp moves in and takes over that job. It wasn't an insult, it was a warning so that it doesn't happen to you. If you read that as an insult then that should be a warning to you. I think I may have struck a nerve. I am truly concerned for you and your safety.

It was this line that makes me think that you are vulnerable.^^

You didn't say why you are scared aside from mean girls. There are mean people in every walk of life. Trust me, I've worked with some ruthless bitches at retail jobs. If "forgetting the rules" and "mean girls" is the source of your fear, I stick by my statement that this is not a good career for you.

I believe you when you say it wasnt an insult and you are concerned for my saftey because I know what its like, I am a dancer lol. And I have danced plenty of times without my friend at my old club, as I said my main fear is just changing clubs and also I am used to dancing at fully nude clubs and the new club is a topless one. Also this is not a CAREER for me it is just a JOB that I enjoy and I am good at. Even if you didn't mean to I think you just gave me the courage I needed to continue with it because I know I can.
