    Default CLA while pregnant?

I know there are a lot of Tonalin CLA fans out there, and I was just wondering if any of you know...

I'm pretty sure I'm pregnant (but haven't taken a test yet). Wondering if I can still take CLA or if I should stop immediately. I know I should ask my doctor, but since I don't know for sure, I don't have an ob/gyn in the area yet.

    Anyone know?

I'd quit until I could ask a doctor, to be safe. Actually, I'd just take the test to find out - any reason why you haven't taken one yet?

My son's been sick and it's nasty out, so I just haven't wanted to go outside .

I was planning to pick one up tomorrow. I'm a week late, when I'm usually pretty regular, my boobs are sore (and they never are when I get my period), and I'm peeing all the time, so I'm pretty sure!

This indicates no clear studies have shown safety during pregnancy. Vitamin Shoppe website recommends _not_ taking it while pregnant.

You might not be pregnant. Just out of curiosity, how old are you?? The reason I ask is because as women get older, while still menstruating, the cycles can become quite short out of the blue, i.e. 2 days and then boom, nothing! Also, your breasts will start to hurt, almost as if you are pregnant. And of course, not being on time ...

This all starts to happen around 35ish. It could happen earlier, but generally around the mid 30s.

CLA is a fat. You're taking it in if you eat ground beef, but in smaller quantities. I don't see why it would be a problem, but check with your doc to be safe.

If you're not sure, then don't do it!! It's better to be safe than sorry.

I stopped taking all vitamins and supplements (except prenatals) until I talked to my doc about each of them.

Yeah def dont take anything until you find out from a doc. Even things that seem harmless can be very dangerous to a baby.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Well, I quit taking it pretty much as soon as I posted. And I took the test today...PREGNANT!!

Not sure what I was thinking, since I'm not going to be too focused on losing weight if I'm pregnant. I just need to eat well and stay in shape.

    Thanks everyone for your advice!

Congratulations and welcome to the ever-growing ranks of pregnant SW women! lol

I'm not quite sure what Tonalin CLA is, but here is good website to give you an idea of any drugs that might be harmful:

I know that I stopped taking EVERYTHING when I found out. You couldn't pay me to take a Tylenol, even though most of the books say it's okay once in a while. Some even say that one alcoholic drink every so often is safe, but I'll be damned if I'm going to press my luck with that. Maybe I'm just paranoid, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.
I take a multivitamin and DHA (which is a deep sea fish oil that aids in brain and eye development and also prevents preterm labor). You should start taking either a multi (with calcium, iron and folic acid) or a prenatal every day.

Make sure you ask your doctor or midwife if you have any questions about ANYTHING. If this is your first pregnancy, then you'll soon find out just how expensive these prenatal visits are...so don't be afraid to speak up about anything you are feeling.

    Best of luck!
