Default Need angry, chaotic, apocolyptic (breakup?) song

I'm looking for a song for my strip theatre show Femme Noir. We mix classic imagery with edgy, modern music so I'm looking for something new and hip--although older tunes could work if the mood is right. The scene is this:

A sweet, but wild (and slightly crazy) young showgirl finds out her lover is actually married and just using her. She flips out upon learning of his betrayal and she kills him. She gets his blood all over her and angrily, indignantly strips her clothes off.

I love the message of "You Oughtta Know" by Alanis Morrisette (but can't use her for obvious reasons) and the dark, dirty mood and cool sound of "Army of Me" by Bjork but I'd like to find something even more modern and edgy. Love the mood AND message of "Legs" and "Rid of Me" by PJ Harvey but want something a little dancier.

This is slightly higher art than the typical strip club could stomach, so I don't need or want something mass-consumable. I'd like to find something super cool and slightly obscure.

    Thanks for any suggestions.

    "Angry Johnny" by Poe

Dude, there has got to be some OTEP tune you can use. The tempos might be too fast though.

^^^^Yeah, now that I think about it, an older song could work, if it's the right mood. I just keep imagining something with super modern production. But whatever. What were your retro suggestions?

Hmmm. Most of the girly songs I can think of like that are either way too mellow or too overdone. You should definitely check out "100%" by Angelspit. It's synthy-industrial dance stuff, quite new, and one very angry girl singing. Google the lyrics and see if it would fit. I'll keep thinking.

(Also, I want to see someone do a burlesque show to Nouvelle Vague. Nudge nudge.)

Have you listened to the Gossip? Maybe "Listen Up"? It's more rock than dance but definitely with a dance beat and a ferocious female vocalist. Some of their songs have been remixed as well and might be good for an act like this.

if you're not dead set on female vocals, imperative reaction have a few scathing breakup type songs - arrogance, ruined, severed, your truth

    neuroticfish - pain

terminal choice - psychopath, pull the trigger

    and for female vocals...
    pzychobitch - breakdown, killing smile

drain sth - crave, i will follow, right through you, i wish

and i think that's all i've got for now...

Snake River Conspiracy - "Strangled" or "Vulcan" (very powerful!)

My Ruin - "Blasphemous Girl", "Do You Love Me" or "Terror"

    Lunachicks - "Drop Dead"

Would Hole or Babes in Toyland work? When I think angry girl songs, I think of them.

    Thanks, Alexxa!

Anything that isn't cheesy would work. It needs to be a song you can take seriously. I will check out all of those suggestions. Sounds like good stuff.

OOOOOh, Babes In Toyland! "Bruise Violet" is such a jammity-jam, but maybe too screamy? I have to go hear that now, gracias. (The bass player from BIT is now a bartender at The Continental at St Marks Place in NYC. Small world.)

I have fond memories of seeing Babes in Toyland the night of my senior homecoming -- driving to the show in my regalia (I was the token punk rock Homecoming Princess) and changing in the parking lot. That album was without a doubt my favorite angry girl record of 1992. I love all that stuff (Hole, L7) but was thinking Dottie wanted less scummy stuff -- but should you put together a routine to any of that I insist you post video here!

Oh, scummy is just fine. In fact, right now the forerunner is Legs by Pj Harvey.

ohhh... almost anything you can find that fits the message you want by The Faint

Try "Let the Poison Spill From Your Throat" by The Faint.

I love to dance to their tunes... crazy great stuff with amazing shifting beats and insanity galore.
