I was just wondering, because I have always been the older kid in school. I will turn 20 like a month after I start college, and just wanna know if I am going to be the old freshman on campus lol!

No, times are constantly changing. At one time it was expected that as soon as you finished high school you'd be ready to start college in the fall. That really isn't the case anymore. I know alot of kids who take a semester or even a year off to work a job and then come back to school later. 20yrs old is not old to be starting college. Trust me, you'll see people at all age levels coming to school, or returning to back to school after a long hiatus.

The mean age at the University of New Mexico is 27 and that's a fact. I dunno if that means "average" but lots of friends and students assured me it was true.
You sound just like me.
Except it was then, and I just turned 22 in December and have finally come to acceptance...
My mother is getting her Masters' and she is 57 and usually is the oldest, sometimes she thinks about it, but the professor said she's the only one that really knows how to write! Yes, in Masters programs!
So try to think of it as you want to be smarter, not younger or older.
I used to wonder "If I'm 21, will the 18 year olds think I'm their age, and then think "damn! that bitch had a rough life!" Even tho everyone says I look much younger.
Yea just be smart.
Ekis, you should be able to find that info on your college's website.
For my school, most freshmen are fresh out of highschool. (But certainly not all!)
If you think school is hard, try being stupid.
Thank you girls for the answers
Bella21-It does not say anything on the website.I'm going to NYU
There are tons of 18-year old freshmen. However, most of them leave because they were disillusioned about college. Some find it to be a waste of time (I've had friends who got into a trade and made more money than they would have from a college degree, or just went into work and made it pretty well). Some party, never go to class, and end up with a 0.31 GPA (I know a guy who achieved this.) Some join the army and come back to college when they're serious.
There are tons of nontraditional students, adn they do well because they tend to give a damn. Good luck!

I'd say most of the freshman at my school are 18. It's creepy in one of my classes. I'm pretty sure a couple boys are very late bloomers.![]()
Age really makes no difference. Especially if there are graduate students in the same area. That drives up that median age.
ETA: 20 is not old!! Don't worry about anything.

My brother was a 32 year old freshman! It took him 5 years but he graduated.

i was 18, and i'll be 22 when i graduate. butttt, some of the girls who will graduate with me are 24/25. it doesnt matter, everybody starts at a different age or takes breaks and comes back.

It's almost officially impossible to finish a BA in four years at my university. Classes fill up so quickly and you can't get your required courses, so most people take at least 5 years. It's really not a big issue. Just go and do your best!

It depends on the college, but 20 is still young, I can't imagine you will be the oldest freshman on any campus. Although, you will probably be a little more mature than the average freshman. And living in a dorm at 20 may be a little difficult (assuming you will be living in a dorm).

20 year olds thinking they're old... what has the world come to?
Christ. I'm 20. I'm ancient, TOO!![]()

I was a 16-year old freshman at my local community college. When I finally went to University, I had just turned 18. This is due to the fact that I was a trouble-maker in highschool. I was court-ordered to get my GED, then I used that to my advantage. I loved being younger than everyone in my classes, it made me feel so smart .. then when everyone gathered at the bars and clubs and I was left behind due to my age limitations, I decided I hated being so young!! lol.

P.S. That was four years ago, and I have yet to graduate. When you get there, don't waste your time .. I played around and was glad to be in college, and yet didn't appreciate it. Now I've got a good debt accumulated in student loans, and I'm not even enrolled this semester because I want to wait until I can just pay ... It's so depressing...
