    Default 17 days of menstruation

...and my back is killing me!! It's my fault for missing a pill. I miss one pill (it fell behind my radiator), and now I've been bleeding for over two weeks. It sucks, but it's manageable except for my back. It really, really hurts (it always does when I get my period, but this marathon period is really f*cking it up). I'm not supposed to start a new pack of pills until the weekend, but would starting a new one now help stop the flow sooner? It was almost done...it had tapered off, and then yesterday it started full force all over again. I don't understand it, although it's happened before (I really need to not miss any pills in future).

Are there any pills that make this less likely to happen? Would starting a new pill cycle early help at all?

Call your doctor. Missing a pill shouldn't do that.

It did that to me. Turns out my lining had gotten too thin. Two years later I was told my body thought it was going through menopause, and that this problem 2 yrs before was a signal to get off bc for 3 to 6 months.

I agree with Jenny, go to the doc. You should not bleed that heavy for that long, especially if you only missed one pill.

Get to the doc!!! I've had this happen before and I ended up in the hospital after a month of non stop heavy heavy heavy bleeding.

Missing one pill should not cause this at all. You need to get to the doc.

I agree call a doctor. My mom once had a period for 30 days and was in the hospital and they wanted to give her a blood transfusion but she refused because that was in the 80s when people were afraid of catching AIDS from them. She ended up ok I was young so I don't remember what helped her- I think it just stopped. I think she later went on the bc pill Nordett. I'm not sure if that was what helped her.

No you should not be bleeding like that from missing one pill. Call a doc asap, the sooner you do, the sooner it will be gone.

Oh shit guys. I honestly didn't think it was such a big deal. It has happened at least two or three times before. I'll call the doctor then. She's basically on speed dial.

I have PCOS, so I never expect stuff to be normal. I guess I could ask about the estrogen levels too. My doctor doesn't like me telling her what my own research has provided me about my possible condition, but regardless she tends to believe me and ask for the websites (hah!). It's interesting because I never even got my period until I was 17 because of PCOS in the first place, and when I'm not on the pill, I don't get a period at all. I've got on pill vacations for up to five months, and not a single period (which my doctor said indicates I'm probably never getting preggers without IVF). Anyway. PCOS is supposed to mean I'm estrogen deficient, among other things, so maybe they've got me on too much chemical estrogen. I do like the boobs though.

Thanks. I was just annoyed about my back hurting.

ETA- I just got an appointment booked for friday. The receptionist was all "do you think you might be pregnant?" (!!). Which, no, y'all told me that couldn't happen (I thought to myself). Anyway, I'm sure it's nothing, but I would've shrugged it off so thanks for the advice to everyone. I do remember my strange nausea from a couple weeks back...sooo I guess hormones just suck and sometimes I think I should just get spayed like a cat. It really seems to help the cats out. Not a care in the world.

Yes, but then you'd get fat. Have you ever seen a fat cat intact? No.

My cat was spayed around 8 months. She turns 8 years this month and is very slim and sleek. She has the teenyist bit of a belly starting, but its really nothing at all.

Molly, I want to get spayed too!! And although your situation might be unique, messing up your pills might cause some breakthrough bleeding, but it should be very light, and not cause cramping. But I don't know much about PCOS.

You're lucky that you can even take the pill having PCOS. I've got it and I can't take any hormonal bc without constant bleeding (the only exception being the ring). I agree with seeing your doc, but don't freak out too much about it in the meantime. Screwed up periods are so common with PCOS, and ANY break in routine (including missing 1 pill) can cause your period to to get out of whack. My doc once told me that I could skip a period by immediately replacing one ring with another (no break in between), and when I did that I bled daily for 3 months. I had to come off the ring completely to get it straightened out. I've seriously considered getting my uterus lasered so that I won't have to worry about it anymore. My point is, they'll get you straightened out, try not to worry
