Default I wanna chop my hair all off

..but I don't have the kind of face that looks good with short hair. But I really, really want to cut it. I've been looking through the style websites and haven't really seen anything I think would look good on me. I want it to be somewhere above my chin and not need a lot of styling. Any suggestions? This is what I look like...

edit: pics don't work... here are links to what I look like...

You can't tell in those pics, but my hair is naturally curly - really curly in the back and just kinda limply wavey in the front.

Oh Lena, I think you look beautiful with your hair just the way it is, but I know the thread is about wanting to cut it ...

My suggestion is to let it grow a little more and perhaps you can have more styling options for mid-lengthed hair?

It's always easier to cut it than to let it grow out, ya know?

You could also look through celebrity photos and see which hairstyle / cut best frames your face shape / hair type. This way you could imagine what it would look like on you before committing to it.

And be careful of a drastic change, as that is a risk that has the potential to hurt your mon$y, you know?

Frankly, shorter hair on you is going to look less feminine and pretty. If you really want to do it, we can't stop you, but it'll likely hurt your $$.

I think your long hair looks beautiful, especially in the 2nd picture! Maybe instead of a drastic change, do something subtle, like long layers, or highlights? I made the mistake of chopping like a foot off my hair off like 6 years ago, and it still isn't as long as I would like it.

You have a beautiful face that is excentuated by being framed in long hair. I don't think the short hair would suit you. What about face framing layers and then use a straightening iron?

    Okay, here's my two cents:

When people like you come into the salon it's like Christmas. We love chopping off hair. It's just so rare that long haired peeps ask to go short. The only people we love more are the virgin hair girls who ask for color.

However, above the chin is not good for you. You have a very square jawline and taking your hair above the chin will only bring the eye to the widest parts of your face... This could make your face seem very wide or almost triangular. A blunt fringe will also shorten your face.

I would like to see you in soft, gradual layers that start right below your chin. That would take off some weight and give you a little movement. As for length, start by taking your hair up to the collar bone or shoulder.

Another option if you really, really want to whack it off is an A-line or graduated bob. Again, do not go any shorter than right below the chin in the front... you could stack the back as high as you want. The higher, the mare dramatic the A-line.

Either look would be fabulous with some long, side swept bangs.

Cutting your hair will effect your $$$. Start with a mid length, see how that works, then go shorter if you think the custies can handle it.

i have severely short hair, and it just goes with me. i do well, but it's not just for everyone, or every custy for that matter.

Everytime a cust compliments you on your looks for a eek, mention that you're going to cut your hair shorter, and that you're excited about it.

if ^80% say not to, don't do it.

Thanks for the honesty, everyone. Maybe I'll wait and see if the urge goes away.

Mia, is there a cut like the first one that would look good with my half crazy curly hair? Without a bunch of straightening or product?

    Lena-
your hair sounds/looks like mine when i dont flatiron it for work. it's gotten less curly and more wavy over the years, and i look like craaaaap with short hair. i mean, relaly, i look so yucky, and it doesn't flatter my frame at all. makes me look larger and more big-boned lol. and when i danced with short hair, i did not make as much as now. however, if i was married and not dancing (no one to impress) i would totally pull a britney.

    Love it!

Lena, I have the same type of hair as yours. I've gone short, bobbed, shoulder-length, layered, etc., and for those styles to look right, they required high maintenance. Big pain in the ass that I had to flat iron, curl, sculpt, fluff, blow dry -- basically add an extra 30 minutes to my routine, kinda like the 80s. I'm not saying that a shorter 'do wouldn't look cute, but it would be work.

Right now my hair is mid-back length with a few layers for movement. I flat iron it for work and let it go all wild Shakira off duty. Love it this way.

Hang on to it! You have this Amazonian intimidating physical presence what with the height and the shoulders and size and everything that I think the feminine long hair counterbalances it all out. I always felt freakishly broad-shouldered and large with chin-length hair and far less pretty than with it long. (see photos).

However, have you thought about doing it anyway and just buying some clip-in extensions for work? nobody's mentioned this yet. You can shave your head or do whatever because when it comes to work there are a million fake hair options. However, I know your low-maintenance self probably bristles at the thought.

If you lengthen that cut all over by 1"-2", you's have a lot of versitility with that cut. You could wear it straight, or apply a curl enhancing styling product and air or diffuser dry to wear it with curl. You'd probaly still have enough length to pull it into a pony tail on your days off, too.

But for someone with curly hair, that would be a lot of work every day.

Story Warning About Cutting Curly Hair Short:

Lena, when I was younger, my curly hair went down to the back of my knees. It was in a braid most of the time, since I knew nothing about styling. This would cause me the most obscene migraine headahces, since I am prone to them and my hair was so long that it was also heavy...

Well, I decided that I wanted to "chop it all off". I was sick and tired of always having a braid and getting headaches, so, I went to the salon...Mind you, my mother begged me NOT TO; that it wasn't going to "come out the way I want it because your hair is curly" <(Quote: my mom).

So, at the salon, the first thing they did BEFORE I could ask what they were doing, and before they even asked me what I WANTED (and was paying for), she got a rubberband, tied it up against the nape of my neck, and drunk with scissor power the dresser went all "choppy happy" (Mia M is right about that; they loooove to cut long hair, makes them salivate; LoL )

She said she was giving me a bob - But with my curly hair, I ended up looking like I had a curly 'fro flat top (I know, WTF ?!?!). I looked like the comedian Godfrey. It looked like a puff and everyone called me "poufy" and "poodle" .

I suffered for years over this , although some say, "It's just hair".

It took YEARS to grow out, I either looked like a puffball if I didn't spend 40 minutes at the mirror, or Guido, being that I had to slather endless tubs of gel on my hair so it wouldn't get crazy (which it still did) and my hair was plastered to my head...(cold chills runnin gup and down my spine just from the thought).

You could always cut it shorter if left a little longer, but it is a pain to grow it out.

REMEMBER ME WHEN YOU GO TO THE SALON LENA !!! Also, be VERY SPECIFIC on what you want. Sometimes, they get a tendency to tell you what would look good on you, rather than listen to what you want and ARE PAYING THEM FOR !

Look through pictures and take the actual picture with you so you can show them so that there is NO misunderstanding. Short for you, might mean a zero fade to the dresser, feel me?

Also, perhaps you just need a style and not a cut ?

Pantene recently came out with a new styling line, Pantene Texurize! Collection.

I haven't tried it yet, but it looks very promising. It allows you many options to style your hair like chunk, flip, curl, scrunch, etc.

My hair is odd - it is straight at the bottom half, and curly on the top half, so I must contend with flyaways at the back of my head, especially since the most product I will use is some shine serum.

Well, I started using Garnier Fructis hairspray and let me tell you, not only does it prevent flyaways, but it keeps my hair from breaking so much as I untangle!

Another great product to try: Strength of Nature's Profective MegaGrowth Daily Anti-Breakage Strengthener. This stuff is sorta on the thick side, but it does wonders for stray hairs that don't know how to act; LoL .

Actually I was thinking (maybe I'm just naive) that wearing a wig would be even lower maintenance then actually doing my hair... just put it on and go?

I was going to say " NO - DON'T DO IT " , but after reading your last comment...... A wig may work .........

Shorter hair could hurt money making , so make sure it's worth it and you are comfy with a wig first !

Curly hair usually looks best went it's shoulder length or longer. You mention that part of your hair is sort of limp/wavy. Mine was kind of like that, too, but I found a stylist who did a great job of cutting it so the top/front would curl up more. She angled my hair in front and cut some shorter pieces all around, but the overall length is still mid-back.

I would say find a stylist who has curly hair and/or specializes in curly hair and aks for a cut that will maximize your curls. I think you'll be a lot happier with your hair.
