Default I have so much work to do...

Background: I work for this company out of state doing some work from home. (This is a real job, not a scam.) Anyway, this past week they have doubled my work load. My job also involves driving long distances sometimes, which cuts down on the time I can actually do my work.
So I have gotten very behind. I've been admonished twice for this, but asked them to give me another chance. Now I have about 10 hours of work to do today, and have until 7 to finish it. I know, right, why am I on stripperweb? I just had to take a break.

I can't stand being talked down to by my boss, even though it is over the phone. I feel like right now they are an inch away from firing my ass, and I'm so scared of that. This job was a good opportunity, and I even dropped two uni classes to finish my work.

He just called me and threatened to fire me again. He says I should work 12-15 hour days, because that's what they do. I have been running around like a chicken with my head cut off trying to get it all done.

I feel like he's being sort of cold with me. Is this what the real world requires? I feel like he's given me too much work...

What industry is it in? You shouldn't let your schoolwork suffer for some asshole who doesn't respect it. It is perfectly acceptable to tell your boss that your coursework is your number one priority at this point in your life, and you are not able to give 12-15 hours a day to this job. If he won't cut back, then you can quit.

I guess that would depend on how he handled the situation the first two times it happened. It sounds to me that he has given you several chances to prove that you are the person for the job. As far as working 12-15 hours a day, unless I am getting paid for it or I am behind because of something of my own doing, I dont work extra for free. Also I would never comprimise my education. Sounds like you need to drop some work and concentrate on your Schooling!

It's real estate appraisal. I value the job because it's hard to get hired as an assistant. But here's the thing: I was doing this part-time until last week, when he fired the other worker in my state. Then he piled the work on me. I alternate between blaming him for doing this and being like "Appraisal is a full-time job!" when the other guy was fired and blaming myself for not going the extra mile and staying up very late hours to work. Sigh...

Well this sheds a little different light on the situation, I would go to the boss, and try to explain to him that when you took the position it was your understanding that it was a part-time position, and that you took it because is fit into you schooling schedule. Now that he is counting on you to make up for the lost production of the other employee, it has become to much for you to handle given your prior commitments. However it does concern me as an employer that there were previous issues with time managment even when you were being used in a Part-time capacity

I don't know. I just feel like here's the situation: it's his job to make sure he hires people out of state and gets them to do their work. When he fired the other guy (he told me on the phone he was a "jerk"?) he gave me all the work.
I thought I could handle it, but I've been exhausted. But when I did ask them to cut it down a bit, they said they were counting on me.

I feel like he's just frustrated and when he calls me he talks to me in a tone that's very abusive. Maybe I just expect him to cut me some slack. I am caught up with my work now, but he keeps demanding more and more. More reports a day, and done in a faster time frame. At first it was OK if I turned a report in in a few days, and now it's 24 hours. all the while he's acting like i should have known that to begin with, when they never told me that until I wasn't doing it.

SIr, I am trying to balance my portion of the work, my education, and well as picking up the void that was created when So and So was released. I understand that you are counting on me, and I am doing my best to do what I can to help the company, However I also have prior comitments to my schooling which I cannot, and will not neglect.

Now if he is any kind of manager, he will respect that and try to work wth you to come to some kind of arrangment that with benifit both of you. If he will not work with you at all, then this is probably not the company for you. I think his biggest problem is that fact that he has had to speak to you before when your work load was not as loaded as it is now.

Bleh, f*ck that noise. Unless the wage justifies the hours, why take his abuse? Would he talk down to you in the same way if you were a man? Maybe the other guy quit instead of being "fired."

I'm usually the "be a doormat at work" type, but if you dumped school to do this & he's not even appreciating it.....Well, the hell with that.

Or you could just d*ck him over. Ha ha. The real estate biz is like that....
