    Default Why...?

It seems everywhere I look on here lately its 'omg I drank too much' or 'omg I have to stop drinking at work' etc...

Why do you girls feel the need to drink at work?

I've always been a firm believer in 'if you cant do your job sober then dont do it'. I mean if you worked at a clothing store would you drink before going into work so you can talk to your customers and make sales?

Im not preaching it just saddens me to see so many girls on here going on about how they must drink at work.

I admit once n a blue moon i'll nurse a smirnoff ice at work.. but its a rare thing and its only one... but I dont need it to get through the night.

Even if you were working a normal job, I know quite a few people (including a friend's dad) that are an alcholics - they just carry little bottles of their alcohol around- while they might not be DRUNK, they're not sober either.

Drinking is everywhere, and drinking too much on a regular basis isn't good and can be habit forming.

I like to drink at work because I feel more social and generally make more money. I can't stand to be completely sober around a bunch of drunk people, at work or when I'm out. They really get on my nerves! But if I have a bit of a buzz, any mild irritations don't bother me.

I have a habit of getting 1 drink as soon as I walk in. I go to the bar, get my drink, scope the place out, plan my targets, get in the mood, then get to work. I ALWAYS have that 1 drink, I can't start my night without it, but its the only drink I have all night, and it's a very weak girly drink. I agree if you cant do yoru job sober than you shouldnt do it. I liek to have my 1 drink to get me in the right mood, but I dont need a buzz to work, although I do admit I work much, much betetr with a buzz...it's just nto a good habit to have.

It happens. I knew girls who snuck flasks into a juice bar even though they could get fired for doing it. (& The customers would get slammed before coming into the juice bar, it seems everyone has a plan for circumventing the no-alkie rule.)

Stripping can be overwhelming & I'm not surprised that girls drink a bit at work..I do so if I'm getting burned out & need to relax a bit.
Of course, you have alcoholics that become strippers for free booze. & There are plenty of alkies that never hang out in bars. Drug addiction is a complicated issue.

It is. If you work in a club that has a bar, I can see how easy it would be to drink or feel compelled to drink, but you don't HAVE to. It's ultimately your choice. A little bit of alcohol wouldn't be a horrible thing, but drink too much and you most likely end up being more sloppy than social.

Do custy's really care whether or not you're sipping virgin? Make up some bullshit story as to why you don't/can't drink.

Well I understand your point. This is something I have been dealing w/ since I started dancing. I don't agree with you at all. While you shouldn't have to do your job sober, look at the envio in which we work, a bunch of drunk guys in a bar. I don't "have" to drink, but when you are around it all night, I don;t see anything wrong with it. As long as you are not making a habit of getting wasted. I have been there. This is not a typical job. We are encouraged to drink. Where I work bartenders and waitresses can drink at midnite, so is it wrong for them? This is a means to an end right now. I love dancing, one of the reasons I like it is that I can drink, I work my ass off at school all week, and on the weekend I want to have a drink and I can do this while making money? Who's better than me? This is the best job ever!

9 times out of 10 girls end up getting wasted, making an ass of themselves and feeding the sterotype that strippers are alcoholics amung other things.

One drink here and there to nurse through the night isnt horrible.. but when your non stop drinking you end up looking god awful on stage and your reaction time is slower and guys take advantage of you. Not to mention you look like an idiot.

This is a job, not a party. It should be treated like a job. Too many girls do this for the 'life style' and it annoys me to no end. Yes you should be able to have fun when you work... but it doesnt mean it should be treated half assed either.

Lots of girls do this job for various reasons, be it to support their kids, get through school or pay off a few bills. But should you not go into work with the mindset of paying off the bills, supporting your kids, paying college tuition etc? Not 'how wasted can I get tonight?'

I am not saying I am any better then anyone else because I dont need to drink. I just think if you feel you need the alcohol buzz to get through the night then its not really safe... and maybe you should consider something else. Why should you need 'liquid courage' to do your job?

I used to drink at work, bad bad bad I know, especially because I was 18. I defintely did not have my wits about me. I notice I make loads more money now, I don't drink and I've learned to hustle better..but the drinking thing really does effect girls money. Plus excessive drinking=excessive calories eek! I don't know that many girls feel like working out on the treadmill when they've got a bad hangover.

Nah not bad Natalie... I used to drink when I first started dancing, then I realized that I wasnt losing any weight from packing the calories on and I wasnt making much money. Once I stopped drinking I started losing the weight and I made much more money.

You learn from your mistakes. Now you know you make more money sober so you choose to stay sober, and im sure your customers respect you a lot more now as well.

^ i agree. there is this great myth that being buzzed/drunk helps you make more money but try it once sober. you will find you make more sober. maybe drinking lowers inhibitions, and makes you *FEEL* more social but in reality it's in yoru head. and now you, by needing to drink to get thru the night are beginning a rough pattern that will lead to alcoholism and dementia as you age. the customer really could not give two sh*ts about whether you are drinking or not. trust me. i bank sober night after night. and when they give me some line about i can't have fun without drinking i KNOW they are a time waster. or if there's no one there i say fine, i will go order us some shots, and go over to the waitress and tell her to make mine virgin. period. there is no excuse for drinking on the job, no matter the job.. i have said to guys, "if i was a lawyer we wouldn't be having this conversation."

i love to laugh at the girls who say: "why didn't i make any money tonight?!" when i watched them sit around and drink themselves stupid all night long. or they hustled drinks and not money. i will continue to laugh at those girls because they are a lost cause.

don't persuade yourself into believing you can't do this sober.. because you can. i do, cally does.. and i know tons of other girls who do.

(disclaimer: you= drinking girls, not one in particular)

    Love it!

^^^ALL the girls at our club that do well on a consistent basis are non-drinkers.

There are girls that do make more money after drinking, but they are girls that shouldn't be dancing anyway because their sober selves can't handle the reality of it.

I wonder why everyone cares when girls get wasted or do other stupid things to "fuel the stripper stereotype." Let's face it girls--the stripper stereotype is never, I repeat never, going to go away. That's reality. If other girls get wasted and make a fool out of themselves, that's their problem. Not mine. I drink at work sometimes but also have a water bottle in the back. I drink at least 1 liter of water every time I work and eat a hearty meal before work. That might help those of you who drink. I think that it's easy to drink in this job because it makes one nervous, and drinking temporarily calms the nerves. Not everyone is comfortable getting nude and showing their ass to hundreds of people at a time. It's contextual nudity, not as bad as being naked on the street or something, but it's still crazy. Add a little shyness to the mix and you've got someone who is anxious. It's hard to get out of the cycle of drinking to calm down and have fun, and I don't put personal blame on anyone who deals with this cycle. However, if it's out of control, one should remove themselves from the strip club environment or work at a juice bar or something. This job is not worth risking your health, and drinking does take its toll over time.

I don't care, especially if you work with me because more money for me.

But I think SW is a community and we care about each other.

Agreed. I often wonder the same thing, and also totally believe that if you HAVE TO drink to do your job you simply should not be doing it. The long-term consequences aren't worth it. I think it's sad that so many girls can't see that because they're only hurting themselves.

But, we're all "adults" (hopefully anyay!) so it's your own choice.

Also agreed that you make MORE money consistently when sober because you can stay focused more, and not get taken advantage of. I used to drink a fair amount at work and I do much better now, sober. I barely drink at work at all, if any. The guys really don't care if you're drinking or not - most of the "pressure" to drink is self-created.

I know, I care if people on this site have problems that they have trouble dealing with. But I don't care on a whole if the girls I work with decide to act a fool, because like you said, more money for me...that's THEIR problem. And I don't get pissed when people fuel the stripper stereotype...because I've already accepted that the stereotype is never going away.

I care because I dont know how many times i've had customers go 'what the fuck is that girl doing?' and then half the lineup is trashed and the customers get annoyed because you have drunk strippers crawling around and the customers get fed up and leave.

Plus I just hate seeing girls make an ass of themselves. It looks bad on them AND it looks bad on the bar.

I forgot that I also care because one time some drunk girl passed out in front of my locker and pissed herself.

    Okay thats nasty!!!

I think the worse was the girl I worked with who was drunk every second she was in the club(from 1pm till 2am) she was loud, obnoxious and just downright rude... she would piss in the garbage can, pass out at random spots in the changing room and scream at people who wouldnt listen to her rant about how missrible her life is because her biker bf is out fucking other girls.

    Yea drunk girls are annoying.

Damn I totally feel for y'all. That behavior is just pathetic. Sorry you have to deal with that nonsense. The worst that happens at my club seems to be girls who mess around in the dressing room or are really loud. The worst thing I've ever seen was a girl so drunk she was throwing up in the bathroom, but I've never had to deal with piss.
