I was desperate for money. I stuck with it because it enabled me to do what I needed to do.
It hasn't always been easy but it's worth it.
I love the money and (in certain clubs) the fun of it! I have made some of my closest friends dancing, and its a good feeling when you can make money with people you really love.
However, there are downsides, but we are truly lucky.

I started on a dare, an amature night thing. Love it so much, I've been at it for 6 years.
I know a few girls that absolutely hate it and cant figure out why they do it. Complain they can make more money at Walmart. Well fuckin go to walmart then, so I dont have to listen to your crap and get frustrated!

I started cause I wasn't old enough to get a real job.
I love it, oh, 90% of the time. But I've adapted it to my life... I hardly ever work in one place for more than a couple weeks (except summer, when I work a couple months at a place I love). I have definitely been in some depressing shitty ass clubs that made me miserable. Luckily, I'm smart enough not to stay in them.
It let's me have a freakishly schedule and I don't have to put in a lot of hours which leaves me with a ton of time with my family (kids and my guy) which is hugely important to me. Add in the decent money and I get to hang out naked (raised by hippies) and i'm pretty happy!![]()
Anyone else a bit insulted by the last choice? Is that just me?

I just noticed that the OP is also a dancer, but I still feel this way in general when other people come here and do this.

I like it alot. Your question comes with a lengthy answer from me as I will try to summarize:
*schedule my own shifts
*work as little as much as I want
*daily paycheck
*school
*freedom from family, financially and from being poor
*travel
ect. Theres many reasons why I choose to dance over anything else right now.
Of course NO ONE enjoys their job at all times. You could ask a celebrity or store clerk or CEO if they enjoy their job at all times. You'll probably find the same kind of answers from not at all to extremely. We're not the only people who drink on the job either. Theres plenty of office executives who go for bumps for lunch. I find it insulting that there was the too drunk option and just because its accessible doesn't mean theres enough of a majority who do it for such a broad poll question like this.

that's your flaw

Money, originally.
I love this job because it's a great way to make great $$$ in a short amount of time, I set my own scedule, and therefore have plenty of free time to do as I wish (aka lots of time to eat, sleep, and shop, muaha). It's a great way to make a living AND have a life.
I had a well paying desk job before I got into dancing a few months ago, but decided to leave it because it was taxing away at my mental well being. Dancing on the flipside, doesn't do that. I really love doing this and also enjoy the showmanship of it all.
I got into stripping for the money.
It's just like any other job, I have my good days and my bad days. Usually more good than bad, though!
Way too much. There are days when I'm hating it and wanting to go home... but it's not like I'm on someone's payroll and subjected to their hours and I still make way more on those days than anything I'd make at a "regular" job. I dread having to get a real job in a year or two. Bye bye easy money.![]()
If you think school is hard, try being stupid.
I liked it a lot better when I was making more money and I had my 3 or 4 close friends working with me. Now it's just kind of like...I'd rather be a cocktail waitress.

When I was dragged into a strip club for the first time, and saw my first stripper on stage, I thought it looked like fun. *Light bulb* "oh I bet I could do that!" Then when I saw all the money that was going around, that sealed the deal![]()
I became a stripper because I was broke. I still am a stripper because it's a living.

The excitement and thrill of it. It was something I thought I'd NEVER be able to do. I cried when I had to get up in front of the class and give a speech. So I definitely faced a large fear here. Plus the money is pretty great too![]()

I became a stripper because I was sick n tired of working in hospitality. Going from one job to another and long periods of unemployment. My boyfriend at the time knew me well enough to know that encouraging me to take my first steps into stripping would be for the best ultimately.
He encouraged me. He saw that I could possibly do well with it. He knew I was "a natural" with it due to how I naturally flirt (even when I think I am not) and so forth.
So I started in September 2001 the day of the Sept 11 attacks in New York.
I said to myself I would only do until Indy was over (www.indy.com.au) yet I enjoyed it and the cash and the flexibility and stuff so much that I kept going with it.
It has taught me alot about myself, life, humanity, sales, business, and so forth.
I've done other things such as Skimpy Barmaid and so forth however I find anything that is "hospitality" related bores the living crap out of me.... The only time I could leave stripping is if my Burlesque takes off and/or I buy a business or two (such as a vet clinic etc).
I'm addicted to how I can travel with it. I've been able to see my own country with this business - I would never had the money nor the ability to do so with any other form of 'work' for me.
In the end, it suits me and has blessed me more than it has been a bane.
It isn't always easy. It isn't always great yet the good still out numbers the bad plus I have generally learnt how to 'let go' of a bad night and see the next night a-new/fresh.

I started to dance to make a living by myself - I had moved out and was with my ex. He hada job andso did I butcombined we didnt make a ton. So I started dancing and it gave me the flexibility and $$$ to do what i wanted.
I'd say that I enjoyed it 90% of the time. As with every job, there are its ups and downs but I never hated it. I would consider going back now, too.

Money. Money. Money.
Flexible schedule.
And I seem to be impervious to the hang-ups others have regarding sexual expression and the sex industry.
And yeah, the "drunk" option seems particularly ignorant and troll like.

Actually, I used to do private parties in Richmond, Virginia. I have never danced in a public place before. I am so sorry that it says body business. I didn't know that I did that. If you are offended by the the last option then I am sorry, but I know dancers who can only dance when they are completely drunk. I started dancing when I was 18 because I needed the money. I was really scared, but then I notice that I like the attention I get when people in the parties looked at me they way they do. Also, I didn't get to audition in the club because they say they already have too many girls, and since I am black and in Oregon it is hard to get a job like that. Believe me...a lot of the employers who do escourt service, dancing, etc. say that there is not a high demand for black girls in my city, but because of circumstances I am stuck for right now. I apologize to everyone who was offended though. My mom was a professional dancer as well. She even performed in Germany...her name was Champaigne, so I kind of know the ropes, just not in actual public clubs.
